Nope. I *accepted* the JJ signing but never loved it. I predicted that his regular season #s on the Knicks would be somewhere between his career postseason and career regular season #s. I was wrong enough as it is; you don't have to make it even worse by changing what were my views!

Please, you were the biggest proponent to the James signing on this board. Bringing up that years playoffs like you were being paid every time you mentioned it.

Why can't you just admit how wrong you were and stop posting until the regular season starts as your pennance. Then you'll be forgiven.

Not trying to put words in your mouth, but that's how I remember it. I'm not going to dig up an old thread, though.
Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

Do you want forgiveness or not?

It's too bad this forum doesn't let you go back farther than June, 2006 and has no search function. I specifically remember predicting his #s would be between his career playoff and career regular season #s and saying "It's probably the best you can do with the MLE." Fish posts pretty often about me loving JJ; that's probably where you got the idea from.

Maybe I was less wrong than even I remembered being. The best I could do was find my post at MSG (link is at bottom of post):

At 7'1", Knicks' starting center will be...

Mr. James

Not how I wanted the MLE to be spent, but hopefully Isiah sees something in James like he saw in Nazy, who far exceeded everyone's expectations. I'm surprised he didn't save the MLE to try to get Kwame. Maybe he's convinced WAS would match an MLE offer and the only way to get Kwame is via trade.

Hell, let's go back to the title of this thread. Bowen is probably one of the best role players in the NBA and he's going to make half of what Jeffries will make.

A max MLE is NOT reasonable for a role player.

The Spurs are one of the most well run organizations in the sport. Probably THE organization. They were one of the first teams to properly manage the cap after the lockout changed the rules and also one of the first to properly scout international talent. You could also bring up the fact that they got Elson and Butler for less than we paid for Jerome James. Or that fact that they've won three rings in the last 7yrs.

anyway, the point is, you could compare ANY team in the league and they come up short next to the Spurs over the last decade. That's just the way it goes. Why is Kwame Brown making $7 million a year and Bowen making $3.5 million? Why is Brian Skinner making $6 million a year and Michael Finley making 2.8 million (one thing to consider is that guys actually take less to play on the Spurs because of their recent history and reputation and no income tax in TX)? Why is Brent Barry making 5.5 million and Bowen making 3.5 million? oh, wait, Barry is on the Spurs. I guess everyone overpays sometimes. But, really, compare ANY organization to the Spurs and they come up short. Phoenix is in the process of signing a lot of long-term, rich extensions (Amare, Diaw, Barbosa, etc) that will lock up all their cap space. If Amare never returns to form, they might be in a lot of cap trouble.
