would all the folks who were criticizing our non-signing of Butler please step forward and give Isiah his due.
I'll step forward but I wont' give him his due on the butler issue. There's no good reason why we couldn't waive one of the six or seven useless veterans on the team to have room for Butler and Jeffries.

I love the signing....I would love for them to not match, but you have to question exactly what Isiah has in mind. Isiah touted Balkman as a highly touted prospect(comparing anyone to Artest automatically earns that) and I know there is no way he would have known he would sign this JJ to an offer sheet before he drafted Balkman, BUT he had Balkman before he signed JJ.

If you examine this further, it actually(position wise) sort of puts us between a rock and a hard place. Now you got Curry and JJ at center and Frye and Lee at PF(there is simply no room for Lee at SF with Jefferies here if he comes here). At SF you have Jalen, Q, Balkman, Jefferies, and maybe Collins?

To me Balkman and Collins are the odd men out, and are no higher than 3rd on the depth chart(Balkman is 4th and Collins is like 6th at their respective positions).

I love the sign if it happens but it raises alot more questions than we had before this came out.

The same questions would be raised if Knicks resigned Woods (everyone wanted the Knicks to resign him). Best part about Jeffries is that he can ply the 3, 2, and the 4 (depending on matchups)

Balk is a rook. Rose expires at seasons end and opens up a spot. If we land Jeffries, hopefully, Isiah buys out Rose to create the roster spot. Unliekly though.

Maybe to Isiah Q and Jalen are the odd men out???? Surely if not this year, next year. Don't really see how Balkman worked his way in to your theory......

Either way I don't care that much for this deal. JJ can help, but I don't think he is that good of a defender. But we still need a starting small forward and Balkman is probably not going to be NBA ready at the start of the season.

WOuld be a great signing and makes the Balkman draft pick even less sense, but I would still love to have this guy. Not an all star or a stat sheet guy, but brings the intensity regardless and is no primadona/superstar wannabee.

Swiped this quote from the Wiz board. Supposedly from NYtimes...

Quote:
Jeffries is determined to leave the Wizards, according to his agent, Andy Miller.

Our expectation would be that they’d understand Jared has made a decision to move on and would like to do so,” Miller said last night. “We recognize they have a right to match. But hopefully, they take into consideration some of the human factors of it. In Jared’s mind, he’d be better suited playing in New York and playing for the Knicks.”

After reading this quote, i can see the Knicks maybe trying to pull a sign and trade. Not sure for who at this point.

BTW, with all the heat Isiah has taken from the media and fans alike, the players don't seem to have a problem playing for him....

Jared and balkman at the 3 is fine. How can it be redundant? If anything the knicks won't miss a beat when these guys get subbed. That goes for everyone.

I sense isiah might have a trade coming right after this Jared thing is cleared up. Someone will get added even if its not Jared. Then there will be a trade made to free up a roster spot.

Anyone else fear that will be giving up unprotected draft picks in 2012 and 2014 and 2016 in a sign and trade because we have no sooner picks left to trade?

That quote above is from the AP- might be in a number of places- the story is also reporting the contract is a max mle- 5 years, $30mm.

The one problem I might have is Jeffries really seemed to step up in the playoffs last year- sounds familiar.

JJ=JJ?

I doubt it since Jared is much younger and I think the potential is there.

I am happy if this happens. I have a feeling Washington will think they could get similar or better production out of someone like Blatche...

Oh hell YES to Jeffries

Bootleg ALERT

quote of the day from my man chip - Zeke is assembling a set of young role players with size and athleticism who can defend multiple positions.

Frye {PF-C]

Lee [PF-SF]

Balkman [SF-PF-SG]

Jeffries [SF-PF-C-SG]

Collins [SG-PG]

Jeffries is 24 years old, intelligent enough to play for Ricky Bobby Knight, 6'11 and versastile enough to spring at small forward next to 6'11 Frye and 6.95 Lee.

What's NOT to like?

This is very good

What I like about this is that he can defend. I'm not saying he's Ron Artest. But, he's at least above-avg on the defensive end. I gotta think that between Frye, Lee, Curry & Jeff....those guys would avg 5 blocks with the extended minutes they'll get.

Also, look around the league. You have Dirk, LeBron, Pierce, Redd, Wade, Kobe, TMac, Anthony....perhaps Barnani or Morrison in the future. If you don't have wing players like this & let's face it, prospects of landing one are remote....you better have a hope of defending them. Would I expect Balkman & Jefferies to be shut down defenders on these guys? Of course not. But I do like what they bring in terms of defensive ability. Its certainly a step in the right direction from some of the recent 3's (KVH, Tim Thomas, Woods, JRose etc.) the Knicks have had in terms of defensive ability, inclination & attitude.

The fact that Jefferies has a good relationship w/ IT, a good handle, can dish & a nice touch around the hoops is GRAVY.

To me, the addition (if offer not matched) improves the projection from 38 to 43 wins.

I grew up a knicks fan and still luv em but I live near DC and hold wiz season tickets. JJ is an over-rated defender who often leaves his man open on the wing. Teams leave him open to double up Gil or Toine bc he cannot not hit a shot. IMO, no loss for the wiz bc blatche will fill his role but I am open to taking back Q or J Rose in a sign and trade. I liked Q's D last year and we know he can hit the three. It will be interesting to see what Ernie G. does; I trust his judgement more than Isiah when it comes to deals.

Knick fan in DC...

I think that QRIch is better than Jeffries at this point and is the starter at the 3 for the knicks come the start of the season.

If he really has that much of a problem with Marbury then we have to let him go, but I think he's beginning to represent knick grit.

Jeffries brings the versatility and D that we need but Richardson brings the ability to knock down 3s and stretch the D. We need him more than ever this year. As far as who starts it doesn't really matter to me because both will play similar playing time and both bring things to the table that we really need to be successful this season.

This is alot of money given our tax. Given our payroll, it seems like Isiah is trying like hell t save his ass.

Here is my problem, like panicking and signing JJ last year with no regard to Butlers upside, is Isiah also being short sighted and not giving regard to DLee and QDogs upside? Jeffries looks like one of those "grass is greener" kind of player.

I just can't see paying bigtime for a player at the premium SF spot that is not a good shooter? His Defense really that great? Not good, but its great?

Is Dlees feet that much slower on the perimeter? Is Qdog really that much worse then Jeffries? Is isiah vindictive to rid himself of Larry favorite Butler and Larrys suggestive Qdog because they are not worthy or they reek of Larry?

Its stupid, but Isiah does crap like this all the time.

I realize this is maybe 50-50 he gets him, but does signing him actually make drafting Balkman a waste?

I hope Isiah is not just doing this for this year because at somepoint we have to decide on what to do with Dlee, who seems to have still nice upside. I'd hate to have Jeffries contract block us keeping a good player in the future just cuz Isiah panicked.

Gotta think down the road!

It can be worked out if Isiah plays the best players and doesn't worry about salary or egos corresponding to playing time. I think the hardest thing will be getting minutes for Jamal, Nate, and Steve.

PG: Marbury 34 min, Jamal 14
SG: Francis 28, Nate 14, Jamal 6
SF: Jeffries 26, Balkman 14, Lee 8
PF: Lee 20, Frye 20, M Rose 8
C: Curry 28 (more if he's in top shape), JJ 10 (more if in shape fewer if not in shape), Frye 10

DNP-CDs: J Rose, Q Rich, Mo Taylor, Collins

Not sure if I'm leaving anyone out.
Players get injured. It's always better to have some depth.

Isiah needs to make a trade either dumping salary or take back less players than sending out.
