IF we get Jefferies, and that's a pretty damn big if. in a better world, we'd never have signed JJ and could have Butler and Jefferies.

I disagree that getting jefferies is the only thing that makes this a less idiotic trade...some would argue that keeping Woods and adding a miller would justify it as well.

but adding any improvement of talent AND filling a roster need is what defines this move as prudent or idiotic.

But it's still looking less idiotic by the minute.

I dislike losing Jackie. I hope we sign him with this news...

And it looks like Washington is keeping Jared Jefferies.

Thats a kick in the nuts. I want either Butler or Jeffries. If I get neither, I'm not a happy camper.

something tells me the Jerome James Fish RV saga is not quite over.
you think I actually care about being right here. Truth??? I hate it. I wish I lost some bet to you and had to post a pic of my forehead with "RV WAS RIGHT" written on it with a sharpie.

The JJ signing was so predictable its not even funny. I knew he would suck, and I knew that 5 year deal would screw up our roster when it came to adding guys like Jackie Butler. Now watch a 21 year old hustle player thrive next to Duncan. Hell, I bet you he averages a double double next year and shoots over 52%. I will also bet that JJ doesnt break 15 minutes a game or 55 games. Know why? History repeats itself. Its not rocket science.

The sooner we get rid of this jerkoff for a GM the better our chance of getting out of the hole he put us in. It still kills me we went from Layden to this jerkoff.

I said almost the same thing before Fish. The problem with Isiah is that he constantly compounds his mistakes, CONSTANTLY. I was one of the people on this board who was killing Isiah Day1 he signed JJ because of the simple fact that JJ had done what he'd done before to get a contract and followed it up with terrible play until it was time to get another contract(last summer). But look at the bright side! Maybe 3 years from now we'll get something out of JJ becuase thats when he'll be a FA again

Now this mistake is compounded because Isiah doesn't have room to keep Jackie Butler. The JJ signing was initially compounded by giving trading Eddy Curry and his signing was compounded by outbidding himself in the trade. The list goes on and so do the losing seasons!

Losing Butler hurts, if in fact we did lose him, but you have to find a guy like Butler to lose him. Layden would have never even heard about Butler until he was dunking on Luc Longley or Magic Lampe. Isiah has brought in talent here left and right that Layden never even dreamed of. Unfortunately, alongside that talent have come some truly awful deals.

Butler will be a good fit in San Antonio, but a big part of that is that Duncan makes everyone look good and I think San finally realized they don't have to pay a guy like Rasho $8 million when they can pay Jackie $2 million to do it better.

If true, this is a terrible decision and one that will be regretted. Jackie brought a great scoring punch for a backup center-- 15.8 pts/40 on 54.4 eFG%-- and he also had the second highest rebound rate on the team behind Lee. The contract the Spurs gave Jackie is the going rate for a scrub backup C who'd be having a good day if he managed not to trip over his own feet. Getting a center who can make a significant contribution on offense and perform solidly on the boards at that price is just a steal, and we were plainly foolish not to match.

What bothers me is now big Snacks can come into camp out of shape and we can't do anything about it. He has noone to push him. I bet he's eating a brontosaurus burger right now to celebrate.
I just hope that people will like me

Well aside from all the wise cracks about James. He's our backup C and many teams don't even have a starter a Center. james will likely be better this year and I don't think its gonna matter much. Some of you guys can kill Isiah all you want, but the fact remains that this team has the kind of talent that Layden only dreamed of assembling. He's gonna run a system that will make the BEST use of that talent and allow it to shine. It would be great if he had the perfect cap situation to start with but he didn't. He also didn't have an owner that wanted to rebuild. Dolan wants fans in seats and that's never gonna change. So in that way isiah is hamstrung unlike some GM's. Now its true that he could spend tons of money, but now that seems to be over and I think Isiah will be looking for different ways to make this team better. The 1st way is from WITHIN and we've got some nice players to do that with.

What kills me is how some of you guys just simply ignore the really good players we have on this team. They're so close to putting it all together and I think Isiah and his staff will make it work this year.

I'm in complete agreement, and a but surprised at how some of us are blowing this off as no big deal.

Questions re: contracts:

1. Was/is the Spurs offer a low level exception or are they under the cap & free to make any contract offer (amount/duration) they please?

2. Is the mid level exception in terms of the years of the contract one that's fixed per NBA rules? In other words, can a team give out a 2 year mid level exception or is 5 years the standard?

No way this makes any sense. It just pisses me off more and more that we go for Jerome James, then make another risky move for Eddy Curry, give up 2 picks for him, then claim that having Jackie is like having a lottery pick, then we lose him for nothing b/c of the 2 bonehead moves, instead of remaining a little patient. This team just does not think ahead one bit.

We didn't sign a player that would've cost 3 years, $7 MM, when a few on this board informed me that he's better than Eddy Curry. The people who believe such should be pretty pissed about this.
Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

just the way the organization is. We pay fat arse Jerome James 30mm to sit on the bench with 10mm a year Mo taylor and 7mm a year malik rose next to him. Yet the smartest/shrewdest team in the league makes a smart money play for a young burgeoning C for peanuts--the whole contract is LESS than what we pay S Andersen to play for th Heat.

wait lets blame larry brown! 2 of isiahs best cheapets moves gonzo stupid stupid stupid

i like the poster above--guys dont you see how good the team is? yeah from the descending losses and the multiple blowouts

It's been the worst run organization in all of sports for about five years now. What would you have expected?
