We already knew Isiah is the worst executive in the league for various reasons but this only strengthens the case.

Your amazing.....I started a thread that proved that LB wanted Francis and Rose (posted quotes from LB himself) and you broke out your X-Files conspiracy theories and basically ignored the quotes and questioned the credibility of the Post and Daily News.

Now that the shoe is on the other foot, you use Bill Simmons of all people to support your theory about Isiah being a bad GM. You can';t have it both ways.....incredible

G. Everyone in Cleveland is having a collective heart attack. And with reason. If LeBron ends up fleeing the Cavs, that would be the biggest non-injury/non-death blow to a professional team in sports history.
wrong cav breathe..did you forget the great dr j..julius erving being sold to 76's for $3m..that was worst in basketball..worse in all sports was sale of babe ruth

Beast. We've argued this stuff how many times? I just feel like we've said all that could be said and that each of us is going to stick to our guns and our opinions, you know? The Larry Brown stuff can only be said how many times? I feel one way, you feel another, it ain't gonna change.

Theres plenty of new stuff to talk about, like whether or not this team will ANYTHING that resembles defense this year.

LOL, I'm sure we'll have more debates, since we don't agree on much to begin with

I really like Balkman as a player after watching him in preseason and seeing him occassionally in college. I think he has some things that the Knicks need sorely. My only problem is that Isiah drafted him at 20 when he could have drafted him at 29, I just don't think the Knicks got full value out of their 20th pick but thats a debate that has raged on since draft day. I like him as a player though, the Knicks need players like him, guys who are unselfish and put the team ahead of themselves.

Great point. I thought Isiah should have drafted Williams at 20, and could have bought Suns pick at 27 and took Balkman there.

Balkman reminds me of Stacy Augmon when he was at Vegas. They both measured the same at pre draft camps (6'6 and a half) both are high energy defensive players, who both look uncomfortable offensively with the ball in their hands on the wing.

Needs to add a little muscle, but I do believe he has the heart and desire to improve as a player. Can thrive in an uptempo system though because he runs the floor so well.

I think Stacey Augmon is a GREAT comparison and one I haven't seen yet. I have NO PROBLEM with the Knicks playing uptempo AS LONG as they play defense. If their going to do it like the Suns do it then their not going to get anywhere becuase Defense wins in the playoffs.

2. LeBron James
I know, I know -- under normal circumstances, he'd be No. 1. But these are the facts ...

A. I keep writing about this, and everyone in Cleveland keeps sending me hate mail, and I don't really know what else to tell you ... but people around the league swear that there's a clause in LeBron's Nike contract (already worth $100 million) that doubles the money if he plays for an NBA team based in New York, Chicago or Los Angeles AND that some of his other endorsement deals have the same clause. Don't shoot me, I'm just the messenger.

B. We know that LeBron and his peeps are already positioning himself as a multimedia presence, someone who could potentially emulate Magic and P. Diddy and own record companies, movie theaters, clothing lines and everything of that ilk. You need to live in a big city to pull this off -- either New York or L.A.

C. The Cavs blew their cap space last summer (more than $160 million spent on Zydruans Ilguaskas, Damon Jones and Hughes) and have no real way to improve. If you remember, by the end of the Detroit series, poor LeBron was a one-man show. Do you think he wants to spend the next eight to 10 years carrying a mediocre supporting cast?

D. LeBron becomes an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2008. He could sign an extension with the Cavs this summer, but there's really no reason to do so. Thinking logically, he could break any bone or blow out any ligament over the next 24 months and STILL get offered a max contract by every team with cap space. So why not see how this season unfolds and keep his options open? No injury short of paralysis could hurt his value over the next two years.

E. From the NBA's standpoint, nothing would generate more interest in the 2006-07 season than the running subplot, "Is LeBron staying or going?"

F. The first day that teams could offer max extensions to rookies from the 2003 draft class: July 1, 2006. We know that Denver offered one to Carmelo (quickly accepted), Miami offered one to Wade (quickly accepted), and Cleveland offered one to LeBron (NOT accepted -- plus, neither LeBron nor his agent has commented publicly and it has been six days and counting). The silence has been deafening. Repeat: Deafening. In fact, it's developing into the biggest sports story of the summer and nobody seems to give a crap. But they will. Just wait.

G. Everyone in Cleveland is having a collective heart attack. And with reason. If LeBron ends up fleeing the Cavs, that would be the biggest non-injury/non-death blow to a professional team in sports history. Unless they were able to sign-and-trade him for a mother lode of players and picks (like the Oilers did with Gretzky), basketball would die in Cleveland and the team would have to move. Imagine living in Cleveland, watching LeBron pass through town like a comet -- the next Ali/Tiger/Pele/MJ -- then he spends the heart of his career playing in another city? How do you bounce back from that? The answer: You don't.

H. There are dozens of reasons -- literally -- why Isiah Thomas is one of the worst executives in sports history. But his failure to create cap space for the summer of 2008 just in case Facts A-thru-F played out remains his all-time dumbest move. Yes, even dumber than the Curry trade.

(Note: If Bron-Bron re-signs with Cleveland this month, disregard everything in the previous few paragraphs and move him to No. 1 on this list. You never know. And just for the record, I hope he stays in Cleveland because LeBron splitting town would be one of the cruelest sports stories of all-time, even if it was overwhelmingly predictable from day one, and no fan base deserves to get kicked in the collective groin to that degree. Well, unless he goes to the Clippers. Then I would wet myself. Repeatedly.)

I would not put it past the idea of him ending up in Chicago. Zeke is in fact a Chicago boy himself, and the way we've been treating him, I can see him somehow putting LeBron in Chicago. This is our one and only chance to solve all of our problems for the next ten years, at least. We have 60 million dollars coming off of our books after next season and the only re-sign I can see at this time is Curry. If Zeke can keep that space open until after the 2007-08 season, then we certainly have more than a chance to grab LeBron! There is no question about this! We'd have LeBron, Frye, Lee, Nate, Woods, Crawford, Collins and Balkman, with possibly the addition of Curry (depends on if he finally has that break out year this year). A lot of times teams build around what they got. We already have the pieces in place. If we get the biggest star (and make no mistake about that) we will be unstoppable. We are looking at, at least several championship rings here. All Zeke has to do is keep the books clean, no more capped out, with decent contracts ending in a reasonable time, to either re-sign players or go after others, in either trades of free agency. I believe this is our last chance. I cannot understand why people in NYC can't see this happening and understanding that we will not win a thing for who knows how many years to come. It would be total suicide to not go for LeBron. This is our last chance.
I'll never trust this' team again.

The Francis trade kills the cap for 2008. Damn that Larry Brown....didn't he know he should work the cap numbers before making his trades!!!!

OTOH, Dolan and Isiah had notice by then that Larry was tanking. They shouldn't have placated him with that trade.

Why is he listed in his last year then? For 2006-07?

Other moves could have been made if they were in striking distance.

I have Houston and Shandon coming off the books after this season. Also with Taylor and Jalen, all together totaling almost 54 million dollars? What is our cap limit as the Knicks?

I'll never trust this' team again.

Curry isn't listed past this year on most sites because his exact salary is not known. The Knicks are currently at 125M. The NBA salary cap is somewhere around 55-60 million
