b/c what would be our other option? Who would we have signed? Who would we have traded for? I think Steph would have been better than anyone else. Steph is still a great player....he has put up very good numbers on the knicks. Unfortunately, everybody wants him to be the leader of this team and that is just not in him. Hopefully, Isiah will be able to relax him to the point where he will just play his game inside the team system. That is how he is gonna be a very dangerous player.

I loved Steph for years. Loved the trade that brought him here. But one thing has always bugged me about Steph-he is an idiot. Not in a bad or personal way of course, but he's an idiot. He is not a smart player and if there is anyone that he can lay responsibility on for failure, he will. But he is always the reason for success.

I always believed that he could have been a top 2 PG in this league with all the talent he has. It's always his head that messes him up.

We could have gotten several bigger names over the past few years...In July of '05 some of the names that were available that we could have signed with space...

Redd, Hughes, Joe Johnson, Brevin Knight, Simmons, Korver, Wells, Evans, Hunter, Gadz, Diop....this is a small list, I'll provide the link-http://probasketball.about.com/od/newsrumorsopinion/a/nbafreeagents05.htm-but I would rather have 2 or 3 of these guys than one of Stephon Marbury-not to mention the draft picks.

Without getting too wrapped up in this discussion.. A large portion of that list is combo or 2 guards.

I think NY assumed Allan Houston would regain his old form, at the time we traded for Marbury. He was coming off a career season and was seen as a durable player up to that point. I remember hearing people whisper things like "one of the best back-courts in the league"..

It was also a decent PR move, considering Marbury brought a ton of hype and probably helped fill some seats in the short term.

That's a huge understatement. His first year in NY, he was top 3 (I think 2nd) in the entire NBA in jersey sales. He's still up among the tops. It's all about money to Cablevision and Marbury's brought in more money than we can imagine.

I don't want a guy on the Knicks just because he sells jersey. Up until this very moment all those jersey sales and those 20 and 8 seasons have produced 0 playoff series victories and 0 playoff wins with the Knicks. I guess you guys can really take solace in the fact that his jersey sales are high though!

He makes MSG a lot of money. That's their motivation.
Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

for petes sake martin, can you just skip over my posts like others do, must you battle me at every turn.

man oh man. it was an opinion expressed on a bulletin board on the internet under an assumed nickname.

Jesus.

and you are not a fan anymore sucka

weren't you leaving? You pulled and Eny.

Hey man, someone has to play the devils advocate.

No Martin if you play devils advocate and don't agree with RV, Killa or Earl you are immediately not called a Knicks fan anymore and don't know anything basketball.

who ho ho. Slow down. The only time I lashed out at guys not being Knick fans was when there was a thread (started by Martin) which asked if guys were giong to become nets fans. Sounds about right, doesn't it?

I was explaining why Cablevision wants big name players; by no means was I justifying it.

you see though your just saying you didnt like the trade b/c steph is an idiot and all these things and i agree with you to some degree. But you admit how good he is and how good he could be. We got that type of player for really nothing. It was a good trade by Isiah is all that im saying. Right now that is his best move in my opinion....Frye and the rest of the draft can def top that but we still have to wait and see more. I think well find out alot more after this year is done on what the best move was.

The whole thing with the trade was, yes we got an immense talent for nothing, but we gave up alot of roster flexibility also. At this point, I just think the roster flexibility would be more important at this point looking back how everything worked out.

I didn't like the trade-I loved the trade at the time it happened, and especially when LB was hired because I though Steph would turn out to be Billiups x2 because he just has more talent than Billiups and IMO could definately be a better player. He wasn't smart enough to listen or unselfish enough to put the ego on the back burner. That's part of the reason I am so down on Steph down. His talent is unbelievable, but when he gets someone who tries to harness it, he pouts.

You're right, we will just have to see if it works out. Steph has no excuses now though. He fails with his handpicked coach, I think he'll be seen as the guy who ran a HOF-caliber coach out of town, and the Knicks would be seen as idiots for choosing him over a Hall of fame coach who undoubtedly know how to rebuild.
