Here are mine
Coach: i think a coach can have a significant effect on the way a team plays, but he has to have the right types of players for his coaching style as well.
GM: Don't mind a GM/coach in our current situation... we have a bunch of overpaid, primadonnas that won't respond to anyone except for the guy who has the power to control their fates in NY... that falls directly on Isiah & Isiah only... a guy like Marbury will never respond to a coach as long as he feels like he's Isiah's pet.
Marbs:can't stand him... always thought he was extremely talented but had a suspect character (speaking in basketball terms, not off the court)... i used to be very optimistic about his prospects to turn his career around in NY, but he's proven that he is all he ever will be - a spoiled, arrogant primadonna who thinks he's way better than he really is, & is more concerned about making himself look good than on doing what it takes to lead a team & help them win a championship... always looking for excuses instead of stepping up & being accountable for his own failures as a player & as a leader... shrinks under pressure... we MUST get rid of him if we have any serious plans of contending for a championship in the future imo... his presence alone holds back guys like Crawford & Nate from taking on the mantle of leadership that they are much better suited for.
Francis: i thought he could be used as a nice trade chip to get a guy like KMart or someone of that nature in the offseason, so was perfectly fine w/the trade... i know he could be better than what he's shown, but he's in the same mold of Marbury in that he's a spoiled primadonna that's used to having everything catered to him, & can't deal w/learning how to fit into a team concept that doesn't center around him being the 1st scoring option... definitely not a guy i think has any future in any championship plans for this franchise other than being used as a trade commodity sometime down the road.
Crawford: also my favorite Knick... really stepped up last year & showed that he's willing to conform to a team concept & commit to a winning style of basketball... showed good leadership qualities & consistently steps up to make the big shots down the stretch when the team needs it... a money player & a guy i think has a big future in NY if u get rid of Marbury & Francis.
Nate: love his energy, enthusiasm & toughness, but don't like how he plays out of control & loses focus on playing smart basketball & instead tries to show off too much... i think he can be a star in this league if he gets himself under control... has qualities to be a leader on this team, but not as long as Marbury & Francis are here.
Q: 1 of the few guys on this team that i can picture playing on the tough Knicks teams of the mid 90's... he's a tough kid & won't back down from anyone... he's trying his best to fit into the team concept & if not for some tough personal issues last season, i think he would have been a much more productive member of the team... expecting him to have a nice bounceback season this year... can be a leader on this team as well, but not as long as Isiah's pet is on the team.
Q2: no longer a Knick so i won't bother offering an opinion
jalen: crafty & versatile veteran scorer who knows how to play the game, but his tendency to be a malcontent doesn't have a beneficial effect on our young guys, so i think he needs to go.
David Lee: agree w/Bip, he's an untouchable imo... a guy i want to groom to be a Knick in the mold of Charles Oakley (w/much better athleticism obviously)... this kid makes good things happen everytime he's on the floor & he's a heady player who's humble & willing to do anything it takes to win a ballgame... we need more guys like him on this team
Channing: love his perimeter game & he's got a great character & work ethic, but i have a few questions about his internal fortitude & toughness, & he's not that heady of a player on the floor on defense & i don't think he'll ever excel in that aspect... i'd be willing to trade him in the right package if it would improve our team.
Butler: San Antonio got a nice backup bigman
Eddie: has all the tools & ability, but does he have the heart & determination to be the great player he can be? doesn't seem like it at this point... still, even so he's still an upper echelon C in this league, but he can be 1 of the best if he'd just will himself to work at it... definitely too early to give up on him though.
JJ: the biggest waste of a free agent signing i've ever witnessed in all my years of following this team... he makes Clarence Weatherspoon seem like a genius move by Layden... i can't understand why anyone would've ever defended this bright idea by Isiah.
MoT: gone w/the wind
LB: hope he gets the money due to him... can't defend the job he did last year, but can't lay the blame completely at his feet either... i still think he's a great coach, but this was an untenable situation last season & you can't coach players if they're not willing to listen.
Isiah: our last bastion of hope w/this current collection of "stars"... if they don't respond to him, they won't respond to anyone... has drafted very well for this franchise but his free agent signings & trades have left much to be desired to put it very mildly... has done a horrible job of diffusing the situation between Marbury & LB last year, publically stating that LB has all the authority yet undermining his authority by having a close personal off the court relationship w/the guy who was challenging his authority on a consistent basis, Stephon Marbury.
In Summary: the only thing i'm going into this season expecting is a change in outlook & attitude from the players... i expect to see this team start to gel & play more fluid style of basketball, whether they win more games or not... an improvement in the W-L record means diddly squat if we still have our primadonna stars squabbling over stats & playing time... i'm not interested in mediocre results, i want real progression towards a championship... if the young guys mature this season & show they are ready to be the core for a new era in Knicks' basketball, then i'll be happy regardless if they win 23 games or 45.
