for me magic johnson was the best nba player ever. jordan is second.

I don't know if you ever got to watch Oscar play in his prime, but I bet you would have ranked him up there with those 2. And Jerry West just a smidgen behind.

Oh My! Jerry West. How can "The Logo" not be on that list?

Only for one reason - he was a hybrid guard, and just seen as a bit more of a shooting guard than a point. Even with his incredible assist totals.

Then why is Zeke on that list? He was the prototypical scoring PG.

Look, there's scoring - and then there's scoring. Zeke's top scoring season was 23 and he averaged 19 for his career. West's top was 31 and he averaged 27 for his career.

You're on drugs!! Maybe you meant to say magic was the greatest PG ever but not the greatest player.. Jordan was the complete package.. Culture icon..

Espn voted him greatest athlete ever in sports...

MAgic had one of the greatest centers to play next to him(Kareem) Jordan didn't have a great center. He had pippen but no center.. 6 rings which is one more than magic..

i will say this and please answer: who has played EVERY position in basketball and MASTERED it? jordan? i don't think so. he dominated every position so to me he is the best EVER.

Magic played game 7 as a rookie and scored like 33 sealing the championship during a game playing center. It was an incredible performance. As far as power forward, Im not so sure, but at 6'9 and big he could play any position.

He could low post about anyone either dominate by size, or with quickness and long reach.

Master it, Dominate it, be hard to document, but I can understand the statement.

Im not a Magic fan by the way, in fact I could not stand him, but the respect is there.

so that clarifies him as the greatest NBA ever??? don't think so!! Jordan won 3 rings, left and came back to win 3 more..

Jordan is the reason why 4 of the greatest 50 got no ring.. stockton, barkley, malone, Ewing.. I don't like Jordan but was able to witness the greatest player to ever play the game..

Whatever the criteria for mastery is, I think it is safe to say you cannot master a posiiton because you played it once, even if it was in a game 7 incredible performance. Magic is my favorite player of all time btw, and I told him so one night in Joe's Pub.

nalods starting 5 Built not for the greatest, but to kick ass):

Wilt
Ben Wallace ( I like having the luxury of a non scoring monster for my dream team.)
Rick Barry
Jordan
Oscar

2nd:

Kareem
Wes Unseld
Dr. J (Wes was the best outlet passer and a great rebounder. Again a monster, and passing to Dr. j will be oh so pretty and fill up the stands.)
Jerry West
Clyde

3rd team:

Shaq
Ewing (Yeah, Pat can face the basket, and in this carnation Shaq is my monster)
Bird
Kobe
Nate Archibald (Think Iverson but racks up assists)

Bench:

Lebron (a bit mature, but its coming)
Nash Bring in this dude to spark. Imagine what he can do with these legends?
Dennis Rodman for defense and rebounding.
Dell curry. Need a three pointer?
Black Jesus Earl the Perl. Need some funk!
Moses Malone
Bill Bradley (need some political insight)

Thats my list. My bench is debatable, but its role players.

My coach? Phil Jax. These guys don't need much. My second choice is sentimental favorite Red Holzman. But if you love Red and understand what a pain in the ass fundamentalist he was, then you might understand Larry.

Red Holzman would have failed miserably with our knick team.

and Red would have done better because there would have been no public feuds, everything would have been in house.

payton should come before kidd and nash, nash should not be on the list, but payton battled jordan in the finals, no one beat Jordan...

I'm not sure if Nash belongs on the list or not - but it's hard to argue with putting a two-time MVP on the list.

To me rod strickland is the best point guard I have seen next to magic and isiah.

Don't destroy me! I just think rod was one of the best ever. He never made and all-star appearance and he made the playoffs I think 2 times for his career because his teams sucked.

I think he may have been the best nyc point guard not named archibald.

Ok, dale is a good choice. I want a designated sniper for a role. Dale had a decent handle and about 6-7.

Red was a different time and a different era. AND.........A team with leadership would have taken care of things long before it ever got to a public airing.

Another take. What if Larry did it on perpose to create a power vacum where by the team collectively got together and took care of matters. Seems it got much worse after Kendra's husband left the team and nobody stepped up, nor did the team come together. It divided. Checks and balances. Team takes care of Larry and earns the respect mutually. Ever tell your kids if they can't work it out, your gonna? Whadda they do, one or the other. The mature ones work it out. The Immaturebury's don't. Or take it personally.

Reds Knicks had some strong leadership and intellegence. This knick team got major economic power. Think about it, they are easy 50 million a year over the average payroll! Thats some serious "PhuchYou" money.

Phil Jax creates mind games for his team to figure it out on their own. This groups couldn't find their way out of a paper bag.

This is why I am very Anti marbury. Not that he can't play, but he is an awful lockerroom presence.

I've seen all of the players on their list. It's not a bad ranking. I was surprised that Jerry West wasn't included. Also, I'd take Oscar over Magic. He was a better scorer and much better defensively. My top eight would be -

1) Oscar
2) Magic
3) West
4) Stockton
5) Isaiah
6) Clyde
7) Kidd
8) Dave Bing

After that, it's a big step down

Agreed !! Oscar over MAgic.. only pg to ave over 20 pts and 8 assists throughout his career when it was said and done.. Also he played both side of the floor... Starburied is averaging 20 and 8 but it won't last long when it's said and done..

let me clarify without the insults shall we? first, you are asking the best basketball player. magic, through and through was an asset becasue he did paly every position including pf when riley wnted to use the small lineup. he did everything not only to make him better but his team as well. what did his team do when he left? a whole lot of nothing. now if you ask who is the most dominant player, it is jordan without a doubt. he took over games like nobody. but to me that doesn't mean he is the best player. it is a matter of opinion. what does the best player mean to you? if it is someone that dominates then mj and shaq are on the top of your list rather than magic or even cousy.
