Duncan is GOOOD. I thought he was complaining to the refs A LOT during the Dallas series. Dude gets away with a lot of stuff already.

Dirk is NOT a "big man". He's a 7 foot small forward, not a dominant "big man".

TD is no longer dominating at his position. He is a great rebounder but this year he has been less dominant. I voted Dirk, although he plays like a 3 really.

I want to see what happens when SA needs him to pull off a win. I think he's stepping up still.

I was planning to bring this thread back after the series no matter who won. It would be easy for me to say "I told you so" here, but I actually think both players were so outstanding that you can't rank one ahead of the other.

I watched that game and hought to myself, was I just saying Duncan is on a downslide? LOL!
Duncan looked as dominant as ever, I mean he was truly unstoppable. Can't take anything away from Dirk either, he finally stepped up the way I thought he should have last year instead of yelling at Jason Terry (who incidentally was the clutch performer). Great series.

TD may be the best who eer did it. And he is not even athletic. Its really incredible.

Duncan is the best there is, the best there was and the best there ever will be.

You can't put Duncan in the same class as guys like Wilt Chamberlin, Larry Bird, Magic Johnson who won championships when the league's talent level wasn't so diluted. (I'm just counting people 6'9" and up because of the subject of the thread.) Duncan's awesome and in the Olajuwan category IMO.

I was going to say Dirk but when I kept hearing Collins say that Duncan had a mismatch when Dirk was guarding him because Duncan is bigger and stronger I came to the conclusion then that Dirk is not a Big man.

Larry Bird and Magic Johnson are not "big men."

Fair enough; replace the term "big men" with "basketball legends" and everything else applies

The arguement between brand and dirk is hard I think brand might b a better "big man" he rebounds better and blocks shots but dirk might b a better player either way they r top 2.... Lets not forget shawn marion in this discussion he counts too...... And honestly I'd like 2 have dwight howard b4 a lot of the mentioned big men... Duncan shaq and garnet are all fading... Dirk and brand are in prime... Marion and Yao are honerable mentions... Dwight and bosh are the premier youngsters

Did you just mention Shawn Marion? This guy is a guy who can only excel in a certain style of play, and has no post up game. He is a jumpshooter, and can finish at the baske, but cannot get there on his own. He should not be apart of this discussion at all.

Sure, but he plays Giant on the defensive end and he's still unselfish. Maybe he's not a PF or a C, but he's still one of the NBA's elite.

Exactly. The negative spin to put on Marion is that he has no low post game. The positive spin is that he can give you 20 PPG without even having to call plays for him!

I'm expecting Dirk to expose Tim as past his prime and the Mavs to win the series.
I was hoping you would bring this thread back so that I could say I you are wrong. Duncan is unreal man! The Mavericks just had too much firepower but what a series by Duncan. Another thing, if Manu hits that gamewinner last night, we all would be calling Dirk a choker. I agree with the list Guns put up.

See my previous posts. I was wrong about Duncan and already gave him a lot of credit. Maybe you were a little wrong about Dirk and the Mavs too? Silverfuel: "I dont think the Mavs win this series at all. Its not just Duncan vs. Dirk but the Spurs vs. the Mavs. Also, Dirk plays poor defense. I'll put my money where my mouth is and make a small wager on the Spurs winning this series. I know thats not going out on a limb at all but I want to see if there are any takers."

Looks like your ego was hurt or something by my post. WOW! I even put a smiley there to make sure you got the spirit of the post but whatever. You want me to "see your previous post"??

I was definately not wrong about Dirk. He still played bad defense and Duncan still looked much more solid than Dirk. Since I was wrong about the Mavs, I acknowledged it by saying "they had too much firepower". I hope this helps you sleep.

I actually did wager on this series and I lost.

oh thing is for sure...Avery did everything he could to avoid having Dirk face Duncan. The Mavs were lucky that after Duncan fouled out Van Horn AND Dampier Diop although inexperienced somewhat contained Duncan. Duncan was completely warn out in that OT he had nothing left in the tank & no lift on his shot. Scoring 41pts and carrying your team takes its toll
