Success Mills had. Sure, he is a "has been"

Anderson was know for his D and still is. Shandon is only 26 y/o. His finishing is the best part of his game. He is fearless going to the hoop. he finally found his rythym toward the end of the years. Knicks have enough shooting. We need to get out on the break and improve our transition game. Shandon is a great rebounder for his size. And has great hands.

The reason why lazlayden hasn't done that deal is because we don't need C.Mills,He's trying to go after Foyle or Dampier. With the D.Fortson deal.So it will be Ward,Knight,Harrington for Fortson and Dampier. We proberly have to throw in a 2nd round draft pick. And don't dream on a Nick van or Damon S,coming to NYC because MR.Dolan doesn't want another high price player coming to NY.Thats the reason why he turn down on D.Motombo.

Shawn Marion and Danny Fortson are great rebounders for their size. Shandon Anderson gets 3 rebounds a game? DAMON STOUDAMIRE IS A BETTER REBOUNDER. Yup...Mighty Mouse, better on the boards. Whats the difference? Mills only has two years left, same as Ward and Knight. Ward is by your definition is ALSO a has been so we swap one wash up for another.

Stoud plays 35 min a game. Anderson only played like 15-18min. If you want to get so specific Spree only averaged 4.

First, why are we arguing over Shandon and Mills? Shandon's not being traded, so theres no reason to argue. He'll back up Houston, Mills will back up Spree. However, Anderson isn't a great rebounder and he didn't come along towards the end of last year. I don't know what games you were watching, but he definitely didn't play well.

In the last ten games, he had an average of 5.5 ppg, 2.9 rpg, 0.3 spg and 0.2 bpg (there's that great defense you talk of), and a whopping 1.4 turnovers/game. He really turned up the heat.

Come on, admit it. This is a great trade for the Knicks.

I'm not all to thrilled about Mills but he'd be an upgrade in talent in the suggested trade. If Layden is trying to replace Mills for Dampier or Foyle then all the better.

What I like about this trade is Danny "big @ss" Fortson (that's really his nickname), this guy really wants to be a knick.

He said so last year and he was very clear about it awhile back taht he would like to be a knick when the trade rumor of CC rider for Fortson was on the table.

If it would be the only move left it would be a so so move, but this trade would give the green light to trading one of the other PF's Othella, KT and/or Spoon.

This trade is good I cant believe the Knicks are even pondering it.

Number 1 we bring in the best rebounder in the league who is 26

Number 2 we add what would be our best offesive bench player something we did not have

These two players give us flexibilty in many different aspects. It opens up Thomas and Harrington trade possibilities. It opens up the possibility to move Mills mid season for a player making the same wage to a team looking to pair pay role. IF we do nothing it just upgrades talent with 0 cost to the bottom line.
Travis Knight does not play and Charlie ward is a nice back up whose knees could go gimp at any moment.

I said the deal I suggested yesterday Thomas and Harrington for Miller and Armstrong OPENS up once we bring Fortson in. We can take advantage of clubs loking for quality size. Right now Orlando has a 37 year old PF and are desperate. This is an opportunity to swipe a player like Miller. they cant pay Miller Hil and tracy anyway once milers contract comes up--submit now and put some quality size on your team giving the Knicks their answer at PG for 4 mm instead of 50MM. Im not saying this would happen but something along these lines. We dont have to be stuck trolling for Van exel or damon---there are far better money deals out there. You need a GM that will see opportunity and execute. this season could be saved with some moves now. Dont screw it up

This trade is just such an improvement talent-wise for New York. Layden better not be the one holding up this deal. I don't care if our frontcourt would be small with McDyess, Fortson, and Sprewell. They're a talented, tough, and athletic group that will put the Knicks in contention in the east. With Houston and maybe a good starting point guard(through a trade involving Thomas) i think it makes us the most talented team in the east. I like Fortson because he's one of the best rebounders and blue-collar workers in the league and though he demands a starting spot, he will not demand a lot of shots and doesn't need more than 30 minutes a game to get done what he does best. As for Mills he's an excellent spot-up shooter(something Anderson isn't), can rebound, and plays very solid defense. This trade is a no-brainer for so many reasons.

fortson is a nice player, a really nice rebounder, esp. when you aren't loaded with undersized pfs.

i have a slightly different take, wasn't he out for an entire season with a stress fracture/broken foot much like borchart just the season before last? and doesn't that kind of injury follow you?

there also seems to be alot of discussion of cap relief by unloading knight and ward, but there's another problem. sure there is 5 or so mil in relief with mills in one year but you still have fortson til 2006 with spoon and poss a resigned dice. fortson's deal is prob in the 4 mil now up to say 7 mil in 2006. ward and knight stay, 4+ mil comes off with knight and maybe 6 mil for ward. that's 10 closer in a shorter time than mills and fortson.

all of this looks alot better if there is a follow up trade that moves spoon and something for a 7ish player of at least 20 min a game with impact but isn't that we ask for all the time and are waiting for following the dice move?

just sayin.

all fair points, part of the reason GS would short themselves on such a deal. Spoon is moveable, albeit for a bad player

When was last nba championship team you seen with a 6'7" center. What team like that ever even made it to the conference finals. barkly didnt play center.

All you guys talking about height, what about talent. I think this is a good trade if we move someone (Thomas, Witherspoon, Anderson, Othello) for a point guard. I still thing Doleac can start. Thomas/Fortson would do better off the bench where he can sub at both positions (PF & C). Think about it, the Bull won 6 championship with no Center.

Future Line up

Van Excel
Houston
Sprewell
McDyess
Doleac

Bench

Fortson
Williams
Eisley (can sub at PG or SG)
Mills

hey - think about this - i read somewhere that the reason Fortson's rebounding #'s are so high is because of a couple of things - 1) he steals Rebounds from teammates that have position

2) GS has a lot of missed shots, hence a larger opportunity for him to get bigger #'s

3) Fortson himself misses alot of shots and gets rebounds when he follows up on his OWN missed shots.

i also read in a mag somewhere.. probably stuff magazine, where a bunch of players who played him, talk about his determination to get a rebound. they all say he is relentless on the boards and made a few references to rodman. we really dont lose anything in this trade, so i dont know why layden hasnt pulled the trigger. the only thing is fortson's contract, but i think that mills contract makes up for that.

This is a no brainer. Everyone who says this is a bad trade you need to be committed. I will put it to you this way. If you were playing a pick up game would you take Ward and Knight or Fortson and Mills. You would look at the talent and not worry about the height. You would get the best players. All this mess about being to short. Shut up!!!!! Your trading him for someone that takes up bench space and a backup point with a gimpy knee. If Layden doesn't make the deal he needs to be fired on the spot. He needs to be fired for just waiting this long to make the deal.

I agree, talent is much more important then height. The trade is a no-brainer. He's a great rebounder, Mills is a proven quantity and adds height at SF. Ward is a back-up PG who will start, Knight is awful. What's the holdup?

Then why dont you play Vince Carter at C. Height does make a huge difference. If Mutumbo wasnt 7'3" do you think he would be considered one of the best.

This deal has definitely been offered. three days in a row on ESPN's frontpage-identifying the players and the technicalities in wards contrcat etc.. Of course they may try to BS and say HUH? what deal but this is a clear cut one. Golden State leaked it so if the Knicks BY pass some other team will get into the mix and they evantually will. This is a no-bariner trade. It gives us so many more options just by increasing the talent level and taking on a 5.5mm dollar player in the last year of his contract. we would have to wait three months if we eventually wanted to move him or he may just be a perfect fit for our bench

anyways these people crying for Erick Dampier Calvin Booth and Adonal foyle are the same guys who dont want this trade. They dont understand basketball and what heart and talent mean. Maybe the knicks make the deal and stay patient--possibly AVOIDING Nick van exel and his 50mm$ contract and find a better solution and or a high caliber talent upgrade that involves youth. We need to be patient looking for a center--if we lunge at any deal with long term effects for a marginal player just to fill a hole for this season would be irrationale and we have to many contrcats like that. Let trades come to us or come in with trades like Thomas and othella for armstrong and miller. We wont find out if we can swing a trade like that without Forston. If we trade Thomas and ward for NVE and no other deal Im sticking to my prediction of 28-35 wins. The reason why i think the other trade immediately makes us a playoff contender is
A. you are bring ing in a ton of rebounding and space eating in a nasty 26 year old kid for nothing
B. you are adding offensive bench play and a guy who matches up better defensively
C. You open yourself up to be able to move another player maybe not thomas maybe just harrington--who knows? or you just stay as is and dump spoon to a team looking for rebounding for a contract that expires sooner.

"Then why dont you play Vince Carter at C. Height does make a huge difference."-Because they have Hakeem Olajuwon and Antonio Davis to play center. This is something completely different from what I was talking about.

"If Mutumbo wasnt 7'3" do you think he would be considered one of the best"-I don't know what you're trying to get across. Ben Wallace is 6'8" (just like Fortson), and he won NBA Defensive Player of the Year. The majority of the time he defended forwrads and centers who were bigger then he was. He was more talented then them.

There are only several good centers in the NBA(none of them are on the trading block). Look at the World Championship team. They'd much rather play a talented 4 (Brand, O'Neal, etc.) at center than bring in Raef LaFrentz and have him play center because he is a true center, even though he is less talented then the others, even though he has some height on those we get playing time in the pivot.

I'm not sure what your argument is, but Danny Fortson is a great rebounder. The Knicks need rebounding. Why wouldn't you want to do the trade? Who cares if is 6'8"? He gets rebounds.

I'm breaking it down as logically as I can. The Knicks give up two guys who aren't going to make an impact on this team. They acquire one player (Fortson) who will have an impact.

Now, falcindor, what point are you trying to make? He's only 6'8"? Well, he still gets the job done (top rebounder per 48 minutes). He wants playing time? He'll get playing time. If you could have the duo Shawn Bradley (7'6") and Todd MacCulloch (7'1") or Ben Wallace and Danny Fortson (both 6'8") to play your PF/C for your team, which would you rather have? Thank you.

so what you're saying is trade ward and knight to gs for fortson and mills and trade thomas and harrington to orlando for armstrong and miller, so the lineup looks like this.

c-dice, doleac
pf-fortson, spoon
sf-spree,anderson,miller,mills
sg-houston,postell
pg-armstrong,eisley,williams

as compared to the current lineup of

c-thomas,doleac,knight
pf-dice,spoon,harrington
sf-spree,anderson
sg-houston,postell
pg-eisley,ward,williams

fortson put up good numbers on a bad team, plenty of players do that. where do you find minutes for all of the swingmen that you would acquire? this deal only helps gs get under the cap and helps to sure up orlando's bigger body issues. i don't see how the knicks get better or clear cap.

i guess i don't understand basketball.
