I dont know why people are so quick to limit a rookies ability to what they have done thus far in their short career. The only rookie i have seen to be completely polished is chris paul, other than that they all have their weaknesses. And to say channing is nothing but a spot up shooter is a bit off. The kid played 85% back to the basket in college. I would imagine larry see's that having a 4 who can step out and shoot the hell out of the ball opens up the inside quite a bit for 5's. And once channing puts on some weight... which he will players almost always do a few years in. I'm sure you will see a lot more versitility. But i'm still puzzled by the countless knick fans with the grass is greener mentality. They have time to see an andrew bynum develop say 5 years from now, but wont even wait a full season to see what frye can add to his repetiore (sp). Let the kid learn to face the basket a little bit more and gain some perimeter savvy. Please feel free to post any players that have the full package their rookie year. If you can get the list above 10 special players, I will cave and say frye needs immidiate work... if not... Let the boy breathe.

Then we both agree Frye can't play D yet. KMart would be a huge upgrade at the spot in the near future, and I agree that Artest is the only one I would trade him for under normal circumstances (normal being that it is a normal trade not a trade scenario like Indy went through with Artest). The only point I was trying to make was that Frye seems to have a big upside(to someone other than us) and that other teams are willing to trade top flight players for him.
If he isnt injured he is an upgrade but Kmart is injury prone. He is injured again! We had a conversation about this on AIM and I said the same thing. Kmart is injury prone. If he is injured, he is not an answer defensively. This could be McDyess all over again.

I agree that Frye has upside and even guns is not arguing that. He is however being overrated. I hope he adds more to his game than just a jumpshot. At this point, there is no way me or you can measure his upside and say he will become a great player or he wont. Using rumored trades to judge his ability like you were doing isnt at all conclusive. Mainly because the trade are rumored. Especially that Artest trade. Larry Bird will never trade with Isiah.

About Frye, from what I see, he had a good jumpshot and has the ethics to improve his game. Calling him anything better than that is overrating him. Hope he keeps improving and becomes a great PF for the Knicks.
A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

And skill set. He has a sick, dead-eye jump shot, and a developing post game. He needs to learn defense and rebounding. Frye is going to be special, and he looks like he has already added 10 pounds of muscle to his frame, has anyone noticed? I think thats why his jumper has been off, he's adjusting to his new body.

Channing frye reminds me of old footage of bob mcadoo. Those 30 pt games he had he was just automatic. Not thinking just shooting when he was open. That to me is a deadly skill for a big man to have. That is not overesting him...that is the absolute truth.

Now is where the fun begins....the good old what if conversation.

Frye has yet to put the ball on the floor. What happens when frye gets his shot going and suprises the defender with a quick head fake and take one dribble to either side and then pulls up? Whoa.

Now what happens when frye can draw the defense and the dribble all the way to the basket?

What happens when frye adds a turn around jumper?

What would happen when he learns to dribble with his back to the basket? The ****ing kid can already shoot a sweet hook with both hands just as easy.

These are simple moves that I know he is aleady working on.

I think frye can become a player that you run the offense through. He is a nice passer aleady. He's thrown a few alley oops and back door passes in his short career.

He is not dirk or any other pro today. He is a robotic simple and efficient player. Once he learns the basic moves I talked about what would we actually be talking about?

Its exciting. Channing wants to get better. I hope he can do it. I'm rooting for him.

Frye is much more of a Tim Duncan type player. As far as his star potential ask other GMS what they would give for a 6'11" player who can post up and shoot an outside shot. I also would not underestimate the Arizona factor with Frye because Arizona guys have recently gone on to have alot of sucess in the NBA. I also think that Frye appears to be getting bigger physically. He is the whole package and I would give up anyone else before him on the Knicks.

I have a real hard time thinking that Frye should be included in a trade for Kenyon Martin. There are many reasons for this. Martin had microfracture surgery on his left knee. That is the same surgery that Allan Houston had. That surgery has ended players careers. The only guys that I know of who have had that surgery that have played again are C-Webb and Jason Kidd. Kidd's surgery was supposed to be slightly different. Martin also cannot hit a jumpshot. I think of him as a cross between Kenny Walker and Xavier McDaniel without X's offensive game. He certainly is a guy that you would cheer for but Channing has alot more ability and potential to make a team win. He also has alot more character, size, and offensive game. Martin gets the most out of what he is able to physically but he is not unlike Kenny Thomas in that respect. How is Sacremento doing?

The Knicks are pushing for KMart, but don't worry, Frye ain't gonna be included.

Knicks need a bridge for channing to climb. K-mart is a nice player. He is a fiery guy and a dude that has seen the good and bad. He is also a guy that is hard to jeep off the court even if he is hurt. He just makes things happen and plays with no fear.

I want frye to have to deal with k-mart in practice and have it in his head that to become the player he wants he's gonna have to take it from someone that's not gonna just give it up.
