The way I look at this debate- you either believe

you learn to play by playing

or

you learn to play by sitting on the bench and in practice

The knicks over the last 15 years have taken this latter approach with developing talent.

Sweetney was sitting behind fatspoon on the injuried list?

Yes, frye has played more than he did in college- but, he needs to learn to play tired, to push.

You all are a bunch of sissy wussys.

Oh, frye is tired, he shouldn't play anymore.

Throw him out there & don't take him out. Play him till he drops- lets find out if he is worth being our 4 for the next 10-15 years.

Now- I'm not saying like Briggs to put him out there for 35 every night regardless- but he should start and he should play even when he makes mistakes.

How is he going to learn to play defense? You don't learn to ride a bike from a book- you get on a bike and you fall, and get back up and fall again- then, you get the hang of it.

This BS is crippling their development.

Franco, I agree. Larry is babying the rooks. I think he's doing it to protect them, but it is misguided.

how about Frye has hit his ceiling as a player. Brown and he have already identified and defined his role as a guy who'll spot up and also score some off of posts, grab some boards and he can best fill this role off the pine facing 2nd stringers.

When Frye stops playing horrible defense and starts rebounding I'll say he can start, until then he has to EARN it.

LOL! He's reached his ceiling before his 50th game as a pro! No wonder the Knicks haven't developed a rookie since Mark Jackson.

Hey man, was Ridnour guarding Felton tonight?

Just plain silly putty

mck1 - You would among the same people trashing McGrady in his rookie season. His stats were BELOW those of Frye. Yo can look it up.

nope he was guarding Brev.

Are you still waiting for Sweetney to show the world he is Brand

Many players prior to Frye have been defined in their first 50. Many players after Frye will be as well.

The best place for these rookies to learn is on the bench. How can they learn to play basketball with real opponents out there?

The best thing to do, now that these players have spent half a season experiencing the Knicks' bench, would be to be trade them to other teams, where they can experience sitting on a variety of different benches.

Once they've sat on a sufficient number of different benches, they will have earned the right to play significant minutes in NBA games on a regular basis.

https:// It's not so hard.

the point is young players get better and they get better quicker on the court, especially when they have the demeanor Frye does.

Kobe airballed four shots to kill the Lakers in 97 in the playoffs, but he was on the court.

does every young player get better

IMO Lee has the most potential to grow as a player than Frye or Nate. I think Lee can play the game like Diaw is playing it out in Phoenix.

clearly, no. but then again, the last young player to score 30 twice in his rookie season in New York was named Ewing. I'm not sold on Nate. I think he has too much confidence and doesn't acknowledge his limitations. Lee and Frye I think can be smart, winning players for many years in this league. The fact that they are 6'11" and 6'9" and as skilled as they are with the demeanor and knowledge they already have gives me a lot of hope.

The reasons are obvious. Only stubborn contrarians would argue the opposite. Unfortunately Larry Brown is a stubborn contrarian.
