You guys are insane. If you can get a real franchise player like KG for just Curry and Frye you do whatever you can to get them to agree to that trade and run to the NBA offices to have it approved before they have a chance to change their minds.

Neither Curry nor Frye have the upside to become anywhere near the dominant player that KG is. Curry is always out of shape, has health problems, doesn't play defense and doesn't rebound. Frye is a poor man's SAR. And you think that's too much for a top 3 player? Stop overrating your own players for just a little while.

With KG the Knicks are a viable contender for the next 3-5 years. You can't even come close to saying that about the group of players we currently have.

THANK YOU ISLESFAN!
Finally a voice of reason.
Did every body here already forget the fact that Curry may still end up belly-up on the court someday? Yes, he may end up good, or even great. He may also end up dead!
Would I prefer to keep him AND get KG? Of course, but I'd do this deal in a minute. KG is a **SUPER**star! He can DOMINATE a game like no one on our team can from 3 different positions!

Marbs/JC
JC/Q
Q/KG/Lee
Lee/KG/MoT
KG/JJ

Sh t yeah!

my bad, I read it as trading curry AND frye.

if we keep curry/frye, have marbs/crawford and any other PF, we manage to keep all the rooks and reezy, add in wally.

We get to the finals...maybe.

We'd have to have a good record at the time of the trade.

Would KG be PF? Continue to bring Frye off the bench for Curry's foul trouble? Would curry be the dominant post presence or turn into Kandi?

But, sticking to the poll, keep curry/frye over KG if those are our options.

Count me in the camp to get KG but without giving up Curry or Frye. Anyone else is fair game.

Curry still has the potential to be a dominant center in 5 or so years. He'll only be 27 then.

Frye has the potential to be a 20/8 player with a block a game. But more than that, I truly feel that he has the potential to be a leader. He speaks well, he relates to his teamates well, and he has model work ethic. And, yes, he does have fire in him. He was the reason Arizona made a push last year. He could be the leader than Houston never was.

I would rather see a team develop that has potential for years rather than a 2-3 year window. Who's to say we'll win a championship? Miami thought they'd win one with Shaq and Wade. That hasn't happened yet. I have my doubts that it actually will.

If I'm Isiah, I say to Minnesota, here are our two expiring contracts. Also, we'll take Wally. In addition, take any two players not named Curry or Frye. That is, in my opinion, the best offer Minnesota will get. Yes, they could get a superstar from somewhere else, but how does that really help them? Getting rid of KG signals a salary dump and a rebuild. Aside from Dallas, we could give them financial relief plus young talent.

The best bargaining position is one that you believe in. If they try to make you blink, say thank you and move on. If they really want to trade KG, they would take that package.

I love this. Curry MIGHT be a dominant center in 5 years when he's 27.
But the fact that KG *IS* dominant now at 29 is not worth it. 29 is over the hill. Give me a break. MIGHT vs. IS.

Is KG still dominant? I'd say now, he's as dominant as Marbs.

I take it back...he is still dominant...a better example would be wade/shaq last year.

We keep TWO dominant big men on our team and build momentum around that, we will be contenders for year's to come...the Miami window is closing by the second.

marbs knees, KG's health, Wade's back, shaq's hammy. I want to be like detroit, shaq is going to kill a bunch of peoples hopes for a championship AGAIN, much like the lakers and the rockets team that tried to get barkley a championship.

Teams win, the shaq/kobe 1 two punch is getting abused by the all around team ball.

What is the marginal advantage of getting a 20 and 10 player who is passing his prime at the cost of 2 possible 20 and 10 players who haven't even approached their primes.

Neither Curry nor Frye are ever giong to be 20 and 10 guys, neither is going to be able to get the 10 rebounds.
A basket or rebound isn't better because KG or anyone else scored it. It doesn't count for any more. That's a ton of young production going West for a lesser amount of aging and achey production on a max deal.

We don't know if Curry will EVER be able to stay on the court long enough to play like a 20ppg scorer. we do know that Garnett is a an absolute stud, who carries his team into the playoffs every single season that he plays. He's a force scoring the ball, rebounding the ball, passing the ball and defensively. Garnett is in his prime and is going to be in his prime for 3 more years. YOU DO NOT PASS THAT UP.

this is ridiculous. KG is gonna be a salary dump if he gets moved. Hence you give them expiring contracts and take back Wally.
We're probably not the only team in the league that would do that deal. We have to give them a reason to do the trade with *us*
You'd be surprised at how few teams will take on KG and Wally. That being said, if one of them wants to invest their young talent and expiring contracts, good luck to them, but it better not be the Knicks.

I agree, really you would think we were talking about a guy who has won a ring or at least appeared in the finals. The truth is Garnett could not get his team past Dirks team, twice I think and on both occasions he was outplayed by dirk actually one time dirk punked him the whole series. Garnett is a great player, probably a better fantasy league player than real life player, but he is not leading the wolves and damn sure not the knicks to a championship. Not if we make a trade giving away all of our young assets to get him...

[Edited by - tkf on 11-22-2005 12:34 AM]

Dirks teams consisted of Nash, Finley and co. far better players than sam mitchell and co and one year with an old cassell and spree

casell is a winner and spree was as good of a option as finley, if KG is supposed to be this elite player above guys like dirk, then he should of beaten that team...

I keep hearing this insane reasoning, that curry and Frye will never be KG. Well good, I don't want them to be I want them to be the best curry and frye they can be, and if they do that, the knicks will have a team that will compete for a title over the next 10 years, long after KG, shaq, duncan and others are gone, calling play by play or appearing alongside Barkely and kenny on TNT....

bravo! amen.

Are you really so short-sighted that you would prefer instant gratification over long-term stability?

Ok let's apply your standards:

KG comes to NY for Frye or Curry:
"IS" NY a champion? no.
"Might" NY be a champion? yes.
"Might" NY be a champion with Curry and Frye instead of KG? yes.
"Is" NY sacrificing future for present again? yes.

We're both predicting the future here. Don't pretend that having KG here automatically gives us a championship. And KG is no where near dominant. KG hasn't beaten Duncan before. hasn't beaten Shaq before. Hasn't even beaten the two Wallaces. All of a sudden he'll do that? please.

And, on top of it all, we have an even bigger payroll and we'll have given up the only players on this team worth keeping. Yeah nice job. People are right. NY fans are a joke.

efw: good points, as nalod said it is star phuching at its best, or worst in this case....

If this were a 25 or 26 year old garnett, maybe I consider the deal, but at 29(which is not old) giving up two 22 year old kids with vast upside is hard to swallow...

i also think that before minny entertains the thoughts of moving kg, they would have to fire mchale first. if mchale traded kg, that would be his last move as a front office exec. what minny should do is fire mchale and then go after kiki hard in the offseason and then let kiki decide if he wants to move kg or not.

i can't see mchale doing this and still keeping his job - minny, NO MATTER WHO THEY GET, will plummet in ticket sales and merchandising. and for it to be minny, it may not recover. they need someone that knows how to reshape and rebuild and kiki as done that.

yep, I was looking at KG's stats, and yes, he is a monster, but under LB, he'd be a role player IMHO. If we had phil jackson, then that would be something.

Come to think of it...I'll bet you he ends up on the lakers.

DJ, that's what I've been saying for a year now. Kevin Garnett is almost the face of that state, in terms of sports and represents so much for them. If that team were under the cap today, free agents would want to go there b/c of HIM. W/O Garnett, everything goes downhill and it's complete rebuilding for a long long time, and no free agent will want to come, until in 3 or 4 years, one of the young guys they aquired for him becomes A VERY popular face.

And onto the Knicks camp. The Knicks trade Ariza, Nate, Frye, Davis, 2 picks, possibly Penny. And remember, we have no good picks, b/c we traded a whole bunch to Chicago, and we still owe one to Phoenix remember! The Knicks become a good team, but aren't good enough to win the championship, and all this time, Marbury and Garnett are getting older and older, and finally, too old to really help them win anything anymore, our assets are either untradable or less desirable by the day and that could become sooner than later, b/c they have been dealing with the nagging injuries. What then? It's back to rebuilding, where NY is too impatient to do so? Another 10 years w/o a sniff of a championship? I don't think so.

I have an idea, how about we stick to what we're doing, for once just F' the Jerome James and Mo Taylors of the world, keep building with future assets, and maybe in 4 years, we'll be championship contenders ANYWAY! Heck, maybe it can be in 2 years. Eddie and Frye are improving by the day, and Ariza continues to show his promise. You guys really don't think they could be pieces of a championship contending core? I don't know. In a few years, I think they'll all be pretty good. How about we enjoy the ride.

And it's like I said earlier, most of the fans will be calling to trade Garnett in year 3 b/c we HAVEN'T won a championship. If you're gonna look for gold, work hard at it, instead of going to the store and giving everything you got to get Pirate (The rock nicknamed "Fools Gold")

No. Shaq was traded for less.
Is a combination of Lamar Odom and Caron Butler really that much less than Penny, AD, and Frye? I bet most non-Knick fans (even ones that have followed Frye's good start) would say the package of Odom and Butler is a lot more.

The Shaq trade was for a lot more, but he's a 3 time champion, Kobe would be nothing w/o him, and he's been the MOOOOOOOOOOST dominant player in the past decade. Possibly even more dominant than Jordan.

On a sidenote, I'm not going to go on and lower myself by saying "Garnett is not dominant" or anything, b/c he is and he's an unbelievable talent. In fact, I would have traded everything we got, for Garnett, before the Summer we had. But I am really seeing good things in the new guys we have.

yeah, I slipped on that Garnett is not dominant statement, but I quickly retracted after seeing his stats, near triple double threat still.

I also think that minnesota would be willing to take lesser pieces than our twin towers.
