it appears that it will be a fine, fine draft, but even if you added Curry to that mix, it doesnt hold Patrick Ewing's jockstrap. Remember we also got Gerald Wilins in that draft, and it wil be hard pressed to find a guy as good as Gerald. Maybe there will be, but Patrick is a top 20 player of all time and couldve brought the knicks to 5-6 finals if things just went a little different. Eddie Curry is NOT a player who comes around every 15-20 years--hes a better version of jahidi white at this point, guys like hakeem ewing isiah thomas are guys who come around 15-20 years. Guys like patrick Robinson et al,dont just do one thing well, they dominate the game with scoring defense rebounding all facets--those are players that come around every so often. Right now, as much as Curry looks good scoring against weak interior teams, his game would need to go to a next level.

Hate to be the nay-sayer around here, but I don't buy Ewing top 20 all time.
Perhaps top 20 in the last 20 years?
Even just looking at centers, above him (or comparable) in the last 20 years are:
Shaq
Parrish
Kareem
Hakeem
Robinson
Zo
Add in the other 4 positions, and I'll guess you get nearly 20.

Also, I don't get all this hype about Gerald Wilkins. He sucked. Couldn't shoot sh!t.

Gerald was an exciting player- the comment was in terms of draft- Ewing and some bum off the street would have been a better draft than this years- Ewing was the difference in getting this team to the play offs about every year he was hear- not sure that frye, lee and nate singlehandly could do that...

I will give you Shaq, Kareem and Hakeem. Parrish is a wash at best and Ewing was simply better than Robinson or Zo despite comparible numbers.

Top 20 is close.. Ewing is probably right around there.

While I might give you Zo, Ewing was not "simply better" than Robinson. Neither statistically, nor head-to-head. It may be close, but definitely debatable.

Neither was Ewing. If Ewing is a top 20 NBA all-time player, then someone of his ability comes by every 3 years (as the NBA has been around for about 60 years).

Funny but I was going to say that it was the worst draft in Knicks history. Imagine 3 1st rd picks and none of them becoming a solid NBA starter. That's pretty bad. Of course that has as much validity as saying that it's the best before any of them have even played an NBA game. But why be objective when you can pour yourself a Super Big Gulp sized Kool-Aid and make stupid proclamations.

Wholey logical!

Don't want to be snitty but if someone bookmarked Isles opinion about the draft right after the draft. Would we find rational objective thought?? Not to be snitty.

A bit of the snit is ok! And certainly Isles has his dark side, but for a moment in time, it was a very good post to "irrational Exerburance" (my aplogy to Alan Greenspan).

Isles is like a Dr. Spoke with a bad attidude. In the face of intagible exuberance he will douse cold water on the heat of the moment. Likewise, we have a few that get a bit carried away with things.

That must make me a fence sitter.

James is 30 years old for goodness sake! Curry has played 4 years. Q is 25!

How can you include them?
We drafted Antonio Davis this offseason too!

Bonnie back now!

If he had Bird and McHale he'd have 8 rings.

He's talking about Robinson. That said, the ring argument is moot. Is Nazr better than Ewing cuz he has a ring? No. However, if he was the best player on that team that won the championship, then you'd have a case.

uhhh, can we wait until Lee, Nate, or Frye become HOF before we start comparing them to '85 and earlier?

Thanks...

DLee is the best thing to happen to NY in Isiah's 4 year tenure. And that alone, though a positive on the radar, is sad as hell.

boy I sure tasted something last night, when the best draft ever was getting used and abused by Deng Gai and John Salmons

HA! That's funny.

I'm sick of people like RV telling other people how to be a fan. Why don't you just live in your own LA-LA world and not expect everyone else to hide from reality like you do. Being a fan doesn't mean living with your head in the clouds, or in the sand.

Ewing is the Knicks best draft, 2 NBA finals three conference finals and 12 years straight in the Playoffs as far as depth goes yes this is our best draft, 1996 should have been but was blotched....

Lee is going to be very good and really gets off the floor quickly.....Nate Rob has a lot of Crawford offensive tendencies but i think we give him a pass because he is 5'7 and we like watching him.....

Frye needs to add 20 bounds of muscle in the next couple of years to be a nice post force.....

But i must say i liked a few things butler did around the basket, he may be someone we package down the road

I think its closer to bizarro world. I guess the difference is knowing something about the game vs. just assuming your team rocks no matter what.

This team has a great future. That future might be 3 months, 18 months or 2 years. I dont know, but the talent is there. Its not a video game.. guys gotta learn how to win

OK. Back the F *CK down. This is sacrilegious.
Shaq - Diesel would not know how to defend the Big Fella in his prime.
Parrish - Where would Parish be without Bird and McHale? He is a great transistion player and above average on everything else.
Kareem - OK.
Hakeem - Pat got the best of him in the 1994 series.
Robinson - Please.
Zo - What?!? GRRRR! Are you serious?

ahhh... no he didnt. Hakeem played better than Ewing. He didnt outplay him but he was the better player on the court. That was an incredibly tight series but Ewing did nothing to outplay Hakeem. It also bother me that neither player checked the other. Mason mostly guarded Hakeem and Thorpe mostly guarded Ewing.

Also, Shaq killed Ewing when he first came into the league. The Magic ended the Knicks streak of however many straight division titles. Ewing was still in his late 20's at that point.

Zo, Rob, Parrish I agree Ewing was better. Kareem is Kareem.

But anyway the original topic is kind of funny, that people like RV can froth at the mouth with stuff like this being the best draft ever while these guys looked totally lost against a phili team loaded with NBDL players and featuring Lee NAilon and John Salmons.
