I don't think it is fair to compare the NBA player to other professionals. The whole purpose of sitting on the bench in your "street clothes" means you are too injured or ill to work that day. I don't know of too many "professionals" who are asked to come into work when they are unable to perform any of their duties. They do it to show team support. Hell they could just as easy as the team to excuse them for that period of time and not show their face. Like you would if you are calling in sick. Also does this also apply to cheerleaders, officals, owners (someone tell Cuban then),vendors and fans?
The only problem I have with that is that most professionals don't make 10 million dollars a year. I think most every American Citizen (that isn't an athlete) will agree that all ahtletes are overpaid, which they are. The least they can do is look professional while doing it. God forbid they have to wear Business Casual attire!

That's irrational. You are placing restrictions and guidance on someone by how much money a person makes based on what they do. That's like someone coming up to you in your place of work and saying you are grossly overpaid, since you are so overpaid based on how I feel, you should wear a bowtie to make me feel better about it.
