Sounds like Paxson is getting closer to making a better offer to Eddy Curry. The NBA will not insure the contract of Curry in case of heart problems. The Bulls are taking a big risk if they give the cash. Don't know if we would want to get involved here. Check the latest.

We could be the Dallas Mavs of the East.

"Eddy Curry's agent has asked the Bulls to consider a sign-and-trade for the restricted free agent, a source familiar with the negotiations confirmed Tuesday. Curry's agent, Leon Rose, did not respond to a message, and Bulls general manager John Paxson declined to confirm or deny the request. But Paxson acknowledged the parties are nowhere near reaching an agreement." Chicago Tribune

"As for a sign-and-trade scenario, which most likely would be orchestrated by Curry's agent, Leon Rose, Bulls general manager John Paxson has heard no such talk. "I've not been contacted by any team,'' Paxson said Tuesday. "A while ago, somebody had written that New York was interested, but I never talked to them. And on the Internet, there's been stuff that the Lakers were interested, but again, I've never talked to anyone." Chicago Sun-Times

"We're not anywhere close to having anything done," Paxson said.

"We're not anywhere close to having anything done," Paxson said. The workings of a sign-and-trade tend to be complicated. Last summer, after 34 days of negotiations, the Bulls and Knicks agreed to a sign-and-trade that sent Jamal Crawford to New York. The upside was the financial relief the Bulls received in salary-cap room." Chicago Tribune

"There's nothing negative," he said. Nevertheless, he doesn't have any meetings scheduled with Rose this week and an Oct. 1 deadline is looming. If Curry does not have a contract in place by then, and if he does not have an offer sheet from another team, his only option is to play for the Bulls' qualifying offer of $5.14 million. The latter appears most likely at this point." Chicago Tribune

"The disagreement isn’t so much about the size of the deal as it is guaranteed money. Because the NBA’s insurance carrier refused to cover Curry’s next contract if a heart problem forces the 6-foot-11 center to stop playing, the Bulls are willing to guarantee only the first season, according to a team source." Arlington Heights Daily Herald

"As far as the Bulls know, Curry also never had a DNA test, which was recommended by Minneapolis-based cardiologist Dr. Barry Maron in the spring. Maron is considered one of the nation’s leading authorities on hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, a potentially deadly disorder when combined with arrhythmia." Arlington Heights Daily Herald

"Meanwhile, questions continue to surface about Curry's weight and whether he's in shape. Earlier this summer he said he wasn't playing full-court because he didn't want to risk an injury while negotiating a contract. He has been drilling and lifting weights under the guidance of Tim Grover, Michael Jordan's former trainer." Chicago Tribune

see, Curry is worth taking a risk on, because of what he's shown and his age. If you can get a DNA test I think the Knicks could and would offer him more than anyone else would be able to. Maybe something like 4 years $40mm. Even if he busts its a worthy gamble. Better to take a shot at a bigman with star potential then waste big money and hurt your options in the future on a guy like big snacks James Only problem is Chi doesnt have any more bad contracts to give us. AD is expiring this year. They will have a boat load of cap space.

WAKE UP Folks- there is no reason to over pay for Eddie Curry!

None!

He might never play again, and he might play 20 games and be forced to retire.

This isn't a Ron Artest issue- its out of Curry's hands.

Have we learned nothing from Vin Baker and his 'heart procedure'- he was supposed to get his stamina back and he never left the bench!

I'd say trading Mo Taylor straight up would be over paying.

And for those saying Sweetney and 6'9" pfs that can average 12pts are a dime a dozen, where are they? and why did it take us so long to get one?

Is it worth it to take a gamble on him? Yes, sure, but lets be realistic in what we want to bet, because the odds might be very much stacked against us and Curry.

No DNA test? He probably knows its genetic and there's a family history.

I could see Chicago being able to use Mo Taylor- AD is what, 400 years old? And Othella Harrington? Please, Mo has more talent than Othella. 2 years left.

I wouldn't give him 4 years $40m.

Maybe 2 years $20m guaranteed, and that's a lot- but it matches up with Mo T (right?), option for 3rd year- maybe even make that vest if he plays a certain amount of minutes the two years-

Franco, we had 3 of those dime a dozen forwards on our roster (KT, Sweets, Mo) Do I wish the questions weren't there? Yes.....But as a great line in Alexander said "Fortune favors the bold".

Mo Taylor for Curry straight up is the only scenario worth anything to the Knicks IMHO. This would also help our glut in the PF department.

the 4 years $40m is if he passes a DNA test. You dont want him dying on the court. If he does and its not a genetic problem and it can be managed he's worth it.

He nothing like KT or the dime a dozen froncourt players we have had in the past. If you think he is you havent been watching

I think IT has been looking at taking on more mature dudes with unquestioned work ehtics and solid background. Even Big Game turned the corner last year and IT will hold him to the higher standard.

There are too many questions with Curry that in my opinion would not qualify for a 40$ investment. Gentetics, a condition, and a questionable work ethic. Got three there to consider!

Of course if Larry really-really wants him?

I would throw a couple draft picks in there also...maybe a conditional #1 this year and a #1 next...We are stocking up SO much on youth so fast, these picks don't hold a whole lot of value because we will just not be able to develop all the young talent we are stockpiling.

I agree it's only Dolan's money taking the risk. But a center combo of Curry/James/Frye would solidify the center position for years.

i would rather do a big time 2 year deal with an option for a 3rd.

penny + conditional pick (if he plays 2 years) + cash for curry at 2 years $30 mil + TEAM OPTION for a 3rd year.

this way, he gets his money, bulls get an expiring deal which they could use at the break, and we don't eat into the cap in 07 if we don't want to.

best option for us is to use mo taylor but i don't think they want to waste $9 mil in 06/07 - they might as well re-sign curry then.

I'd rather work with Frye than take a risk on Curry. I certainly would not give up Q Rich for Curry - we need Q as a big guard and outside shooter and I like his defensive potential as well.

Curry plays no defense and doesn't rebound. Having Curry, Frye and James - all 5rpg guys at this point - doesn't bode well at all. I personally like Sweetney better than Curry, and I don't like Sweetney that much. But at least Sweets rebounds and plays solid D, if he can just avoid those stupid fouls at the top of the key on the pick and roll, he'll be fine. I think Frye, Lee and Sweetney at PF will be a solid group. Lee and Sweets rebound and defend.

The Knicks should save their pieces until the trade deadline. There will be a lot of stuff available then. IF we really want Curry, I bet he will be there for the MLE next summer as a UFA.

you get curry and your rotation is this:

sweets/frye at the PF
james/curry at C

that's pretty solid IF curry can stay healthy.

not for nothing - but bulls fan want him gone if he's going to cost them anything more than the qualifying offer.

he's a total 100% GRADE A RISK. the 1st definition of RISK in the dictionary.

are we in a position to take a major risk like that? i think we're one of the few teams that could financially do it but there are major signs pointing to him being a major dissapointment.

NOTE: Pax talks about internet rumors. Is he reading this stuff or is someone telling him?

http://www.suntimes.com/output/bulls/cst-spt-bull07.html

Eddy Curry's options seem to be dwindling.

Short of a team such as the New York Knicks or Los Angeles Lakers throwing caution to the wind for Curry, a restricted free agent whose heart problems have complicated his contract options, it appears he will have to agree to the Bulls' qualifying offer of one year for $5.14 million, plus incentives.

If Curry plays for the qualifying offer next season, he will be an unrestricted free agent next summer.

No other team has come close to tendering an offer sheet to Curry, and the Bulls have the right to match any such deal. If Curry doesn't sign an offer sheet with another team by Oct. 1, the Bulls' qualifying offer will be the only one he can accept.

As for a sign-and-trade scenario, which most likely would be orchestrated by Curry's agent, Leon Rose, Bulls general manager John Paxson has heard no such talk.

"I've not been contacted by any team,'' Paxson said Tuesday. "A while ago, somebody had written that New York was interested, but I never talked to them. And on the Internet, there's been stuff that the Lakers were interested, but again, I've never talked to anyone.''

Paxson has been talking to Rose, who has not returned multiple messages seeking comment about Curry's contract situation.

"I have talked with Leon a couple of times,'' said Paxson, who also traveled to Philadelphia within the last few weeks to meet face-to-face with Rose. "Everything's been positive. We're just not close to anything.''

Because of the irregular heartbeat that sidelined Curry late last season, no insurance company has been willing to cover any part of a guaranteed contract. Rose and Curry are seeking a longer-term deal, but the Bulls are reluctant to insure anything beyond the one-year qualifying offer.

"That's what the process has been, trying to negotiate a longer-term deal,'' Paxson said. "But that's where all these issues come in. Even if there is [another team willing to sign Curry to an offer sheet or do a sign-and-trade], we have to agree to it.

"Sign-and-trades are difficult because there is this issue called base year. In order to make the deal work, you have to build the deal up to a dollar amount that's very high.''

Higher than the circumstances would appear to dictate.

The Bulls could just match that. We wouldn't give Curry the MLE unless the DNA test looked good. And if it looked good, then I can't imagine the Bulls losing him for nothing rather than giving him the MLE.

Who would we be trading to get him? It's hard to picture a trade not involving Q, but that alone wouldn't be enough to match salaries if Eddy were making $10 mil per season. And they're certainly not going to take $18 mil back for Mo Taylor. I don't think TT's or Penny's expiring contracts will be appealing to them because they don't have a bad long-term contract.
