I think signing Diop would be a coup. But that PF glut still has to be done...even if we were to trade 2 of these guys for a slightly overpaid Role player at the position....

How about Sweetney and Taylor for PJ Brown and George Lynch....PJ will mkae a great starting PF and emergency center Lynch is a 3 position defensive player, and a FA after next year.

JJ/Diop/Butler
PJ/Frye/Rose
TT/Ariza/JYD/Lee
Q/Craw/Lynch
Steph/Nate

Puss Juice Brown as a Knick? It would be hard to stomach initially (amidst flashbacks of the Charlie Ward incident LOL), but he'd help solidify our front line.

I would prefer a 2-for-1 trade so we can trim the glut @ the 4 a bit.
Another season, and more adversity to persevere through. We will get the job done, even BETTER than last year. GO KNICKS!

IMO Lynch would be the throw in that is cut or whatever...he is the extra piece we don't need.

Understood. Thanks.

That being the case, joe's deal sounds more feasible.

Its too hard to trade one of these PFs, imagine two. Our best option is using the amnesty to waive one...

getting Diop now is like getting Bynum four years into his "development"....

Uhhhh Crzy, be careful, you don't want to start another Bynum controversy, do you? LOL

we'll see about that when Bynum posts between rookie numbers than the 22yr old Frye as a 18yr old as a Laker

[Edited by - gunsnewing on 08/14/2005 03:18:07]

I'm surprised at you guns! All that talk of Bynum b4, I'd think you'd be happy about the possibility of adding Diop.

no Diop sucks. I don't mind taking the chance on him since he'll come cheap but I doubt Diop was being recruited by the Nation's top college program like Bynum was. I doubt LA would've been stupid enough to draft Diop. Diop is a stiff. Bynum is a big dude but he's not overweight and he's very athletic. He's only 17..just wait

The fact that some people are actually comparing the 2 just goes to show how much they really know about both players. So its no surprise to see people label Bynum as the next diop since its the easiest thing to do after we already drafted Frye.

I'm telling you this trade works on a million different levels.

We get a stop gap SOLID PF and we can let Frye develop (plus Frye going against PJ will toughen him up).

NO gets a young post player to devlop with it's young core.
Taylor is an expiring contract NO may be able to peddle later on.
This doesn't affect the development of ANY player they already have.
Gives NO a solid low post offensive player that will take the pressure off of Paul and JR Smith

Most people are JUST LIKE YOU. We've seen Diop play and haven't seen Bynum play. It's as simple as that. Their measurements are the same, scouting reports identical. Both came into the league at young ages coming out of highschool. Since no one's ever seen Bynum play (you included), and he sounds an awful lot like Diop......walks like a duck...talks like a duck....

With that said, it would be great to take a chance on a player that is like Bynum. Very low risk situation.

He was being heavily recruited by North Carolina, Wake and Virginia at the time he decided to go into the draft.

Diop was picked in the lottery at number 8. He was brought from Africa to America to play basketball in prep school.

Something tells me he was being recruited by some top schools.

Here is Diop's bio from NBA.com:

HIGH SCHOOL CAREER:
As a senior in 2000-01, helped Oak Hill Academy to a 33-0 season and a No. 1 national ranking by USA Today…averaged 14.6 ppg, 13.2 rpg, and 8.0 bpg and shot better than 60 percent from the field…named to McDonald’s High School All-America Team and to Parade Magazine High School Boys All-America First Team…also named to USA Today All-USA Second Team and named USA Today’s Virginia state Player of the Year.

Seems at least as good as Bynum's resume.

Anyway, why not take a chance on Diop? I can't see any reason not to. If he just sucks, cut him.

I am not saying that Diop will be a good player, but maybe he can be and he is big, you can't teach that.

oohah

Good luck Mike D'Antoni, 'cause you ain't never seen nothing like this before!

Diop has great measurements for an NBA center, is young (esp. consdering his limited pre-nba basketball experience), and would come very cheap (LLE at most). What is there NOT to like about getting him?

diop is a project.
along with frye, sweets, lee, butler, and now james - how many big men can we develop at the same time?

i'm not against signing him and seeing what we can do with him but where is the space for him?

We gotta get Diop.

Isiah needs to cut some of these higher paid players and keep signing these kids. The Knicks have to continue to build a foundation. Diop might not amount to anything but he is still a kid. Sky is the limit.

Better developing many big men than having no hope in the frontcourt. Its a low risk so definitely take it

first Jerome James is a bargain at the full MLE, now getting Diop is like getting another high lottery pick...i think the hot weather is getting to some of you.

Diop for the LLE is a no brainer. There is no valid counter argument.
