I am ****ing wondering about what that means too. I think thats some b.s. fans from different boards came up with. Let the dust settle. We will know a lot more tomorrow morning.

Well, was a second round pick, a headcase. Remember Isiah loves headcases that could turn out to be good players. Who knows. If that happens, this makes the draft even better. Not that Im high on Taft, but we can send him to the NBDL to try to make him work hard, and if he does, great for us. Of course, who knows if this is true.

This has been a crazy draft...

I just keep thinking, we got a skinny center, a tiny guard and ANOTHER 6'9" forward.

If there was one thing this team had in spades it was hustling, undersized power forwards with heart. JYD and Rose are an absolute waste now... or this Lee pick is. Its one or the other.

We've been collecting 6'9" forwards since... oh yeah, John Wallace.

Now what, we hope for some saviour to sign for the MLE again?

Alan Hahn: Nate Robinson has been on a ridonkulous scoring tear lately (remember when he couldn't hit Jerome James with a Big Mac in early January?)

Lee is 6'10, and Frye is muscle-y, though he has a skinny face. Nate is short, not tiny, he went to Washington as a d-back. He's very fast and very tough.

Those for Q, Frye, Nate and David.

So this isn't Isiah's last move, since we definitely need to add another C through the Free Agency. Maybe many of these picks will go to the NBDL...

Do the guys that you send down to the NBDL count as a roster spot? Anyone know how that will work?

This is a horrible draft unless....

I told you guys about that rumored Gasol trade, did Warrick seem a little wierd there going to Memphis? Supposedly the #19 pick was suposed to come our way with Gasol and that balding Purdue kid for Penny and Ariza.

Hmmmm... only that will restore my faith in Thomas

I thought this draft would redeem him, he should have taken a risk at 30, Frye is what he is, but take Blatche at 30 please.
A man sporting that name should never make a comment like that.

LMAO

Thanks Marv, that does make it sound a lot better. The new players do make the Knicks a lot younger. I am surprised and I should give you some credit for being optimistic. It shows commitment towards developing talent.

I thought Isiah wanted to make the Knicks a playoff team that wouldnt win a championship. I didnt expect him to actually try to rebuild. This looks like a rebuilding team now. Strange but it looks good. I guess we have a lot to look forward too.

i was happy with frye, i think he'll fit in well and be big in our chronically undersized frontcourt.

i was totally stoked when we traded for nate robinson. he will be sick, we will have the most exciting backcourt in the NBA

i was really pulling for blatche, at the end of the first round i was on the edge of my seat hoping he would fall to us. i was pissed off when we picked lee, but as i've learned more about him i think he can be a contributor.

i am totally psyched about our young talent this upcoming year. we'll miss kurt's reliability in the frontcourt, our young guys will really have to step up, but our backcourt will win a lot of games for us, and more moves must be in the works. IT gets a B+ from me, i'm happy with the draft and trade, let's see how this turns out for us...

Thomas Excited About Draft Night Additions

by Tom Kertes

NEW YORK, June 28, 2005 -- “My goal going into this off-season was to add two 7-footers to the roster,” an elated Knicks President, Basketball Operations Isiah Thomas commented on the just-concluded NBA Draft 2005. “You can’t have too many big guys -- and, with Channing Frye, I think we went a long way in filling a need.”
“He’s just solid,” added Thomas. “When we talk about upside potential, we usually talk about little guys or wing guys. Big players, we generally feel they’ve somehow reached their ceilings. But Channing, he’s only scratched his surface. He can shoot, pass the ball, block shots, rebound, and defend. Plus, he gets on the line -- and he’s an 80 per cent foul shooter. As he gets around and learns this league, he’s got a chance to be a pretty special player.”

Thomas felt equally excited about 6-9 Florida forward David Lee -- the 30th selection – and tiny TNT-er Nate Robinson who was acquired in the just-completed Quentin Richardson-for-Kurt Thomas trade. “Nate, if he was 6-2, he probably would have been the second, or even the first, pick in this draft,” said Thomas. “He was the one kid we worked out who every scout just stood up and watched -- he is that exciting. He dunked with his left hand, his right hand, backwards, at 5-9. He was unbelievable. I may be a bit partial to small players. I remember the tough times we had playing against Spud Webb. Nate will be a tempo changer, he’ll give us a different look. The Garden is going to love him.”

“And David Lee, he’s another great athlete who works hard, rebounds the ball and will bring a kind of a glue to the team,” said Thomas. “He played against the toughest competition possible in the SEC night after night – and he has that top basketball mentality.”

“You have to be mature and mentally tough to play in New York because you will be knocked around a bit. These guys are all of those things.”

“We need another shot-blocker – and we need a bit more girth in the middle,” said Thomas. “Once that happens, we have a chance to be pretty decent team. After this draft, we are a more complete and balanced team now. These four new players, including Quentin, these are the types of guys I would have loved to play with. They are smart players with great basketball intellect. We are still in the rebuilding process, but I feel that with these players we are looking ahead to a bright future.”

Great read, thanks for posting it.

Isiah had a plan before the draft. You can just see it by reading his opinions on the players. He scouted them very good and many of his thoughts reflect many here. Isiah is a great talent evaluator and if he says Frye has a chance to be a special player, that he hasn't yet reached his potential, I believe him. This was a good draft...

Ohh, and its also great to see that Isiah knows he still needs another 7 footer shotblocker. He will sign one soon. Yeah!

I personally think he limited himself to only the players he worked out. I'm shocked Isiah played it safe like this!

Well, thats Bynum's responsability, don't you think? Would you risk such an important pick on a guy you haven't worked out and the only thing you have about him is all the hype? Not that I wouldn't have risked it, but Isiah made a good pick at #8.

Also, I had the feeling that everything Bynum was doing was with the intention of going to the Lakers. On a site with a report on him, they said he was a big Lakers fan. Then, he cancels workouts with teams above the Lakers in the lottery. But he works out for Portland when the Lakers were rumored to trade for pick #3, maybe afraid that they wouldn't be able to pick him at 10 because his stock was rising fast. (Maybe because they wanted a better chance at Frye or they wanted one of the best PG's, who really knows?) What is really known is that Bynum got a promise from a lottery team. If that team went on to be your favorite team, with a chance at being the next big star center of the organization, how could Bynum resist it? He didn't wanted to be a Knick, so its ok he ends up not being one.

Bynum worked out for the Knicks, then held a more open workout for all NBA teams in NYC on Saturday or Sunday.

Also, this story on Bynum is very similar to Frye's. Maybe he wanted to be a Knick all the time, therefore explaining not working out for teams above NY in the lottery. He got a promise. New York is his hometown. He talked about how much he would help the Knicks, Marb's game, etc.

Even Green can thank his draft position to canceling workouts, only it worked against him...

Worked out in NY for many scouts, Knicks included. That rumored secret workout could be just that, a rumor...

I think overall it was an absolute disaster of a draft.

The only way to get height and a legit center is through the draft. Isiah showed that he has no balls and he is scared to lose his job. Every pick was a "safe" pick.

We are going nowhere with frye and lee, can anyone honestly say that either of these guys will be an important piece to a championship one day? come on... im so fed up with this nonsense

What are you blathering about? Nate was a safe pick? With the almighty Taft still out there? And David Lee? with Martynas also still there?
Some men see things as they are and ask why. I dream things that never were and ask why not?
