I think it's more likely that MEM wants to use the asset haul to retool around Ja and JJJ than it is them wanting to blow it all up. They can make a power move now. JJJ would cost way more than Mikal also and based on reporting Herb Jones would cost way more than Mitch.

I agree with this. I think they have determined you can’t build around morant, JJJ and bane with the amount of the salary cap they take up, so bane had to go. This is a trade that is a fallout of the new rules.

If they wanted to do OG and Mitch for JJJ I'd be all over it though and would probably add that WSH pick.

I would not touch that type of trade at all. Too much going out, by far, for me.

2 players and prime 2nd round picks at worse, for a player where you need to negotiate a new contract for. JJJ is a player that is more injury prone and has played a TON less minutes than OG and is foul prone just like KAT (but obviously for different reasons). He is a great compliment to KAT in theory but wow, 2 players and 2 cost controlled contracts is a lot.

OG/Mitch health worry the hell out of me as well.

Good point on JJJ and Kat fouling out in 1st minute of games.

OG to me wasn't as forceful or impactful as a defender as he tried to expand his offense and played more games / minutes.
We basically had to rest / rehab Mitch 90% of the season just to have him available this year - what will next year look like.

JJJ is the impactful shot blocker that could protect Kat, he also has a decent post game and a solid 3 point shot --- seems like a perfect fit next to Kat and not as clunky as OG - falling down all over the court. JJJ is still young though (only 25) -- I think I might go for that deal because it slides Kat to 4 on offense.

Does hurt our depth again but still only 25 - big time defensive impact guy. Maybe opens Huck minutes. Maybe we start someone else for Hart who can shoot.

It is an interesting debate Mikal vs OG if we had to choose 1.

Yes OG is the more impactful/forceful defender but his offense is so damn clunky - virtually can't make a shot under any type of coverage.
Either trips or fumbles the ball on most drives and if he isn't driving or catch and shoot his only game is a step back low % shot.

Mikal on the other hand - maybe he can't play worse vs what we saw this year. First year in NY, came late to team, went from # 2 to sometimes #4 option. I think Thibs also misused him on D forcing him to go over screens all year when Mikal has the length to go under and contest on screens.

Both OG and Mikal have some serious ? marks offensively but Mikal has already shown he can show up (Phx) in late playoff games and I trust his ability to improve his shot and stay healthy long term.

OG feels like he's going to look 48 when he's turning 30.

Let's be real. The Knicks didn't really have assets to get KD. No picks. No young talent. As an aside, there are rumors that Ishbias are having financial difficulties. They are also being sued by a number of parties, including the state of Ohio. Not sure how much this factors in, but it makes you wonder.
