I wouldn't be too upset with that haul if the Knicks stay where there are. Johnson is a bit of wildcard and could late lottery or late first round. Giddey isn't ready yet, but there's enough upside there for him to be a smaller, less athletic, mediocre shooting Ben Simmons. I could see Boston from Kentucky being used with that Detroit second-rounder.

I also don't mind this haul. Would definitely prefer a reliable guard who can shoot with the Dallas pick tho.

Yep, it always comes down to upside vs. floor. I listened to the KFS podcast and they threw around a scenario where Jalen Brandon signs with the Knicks. Something like that would give the Knicks more leeway to draft for upside.

Interesting. Did he mean Jalen Brunson? I thought he was a 2022 FA? Either way I like the idea of grabbing an established guard that would allow us more leeway to get upside/talent picks.

He becomes an unrestricted FA due to him being second-rounder when he signed, similar to Mitch. Dallas will likely pick up his option this year, but it might not make sense for them to extend him. He's not the greatest fit next to Luka and he will get pretty good offers from other teams. Macri's thinking (and this is all conjecture) is that Brunson and Leon's family go back. His dad was Leon's first client and they still appear to be close. If Jalen made it known that his preferred destination is the Knicks, it will make it hard for Dallas to make a deal with any other team, especially knowing that he's unrestricted. This is all conjecture, but I'm hopeful that it has some basis in reality.

Baylor came to play! All their shot makers are making shots and it’s proving too much for Zag d

I like Brunson a lot. Let’s hope Leon works his magic

Bouknight dropped to 23! Now Kispert is at 19. If we manage to walk out of this draft with both of them I’d be ecstatic.

THe hype is real but it fades and in time reality normalizes. Draft is a crap shoot as it is. Out there is Mateen Cleeves, El-Amin and of course didn’t Miles Simon look like a 15 year player?
Who didn’t want Otis Birdsong? He could shoot and the name would bring so many cliche’ for announcers!!!

One thing I found interesting from listening to his podcast is that he said that teams seem to be gravitating towards towards the “Chris Duartes and Jared Butlers” of the draft outside of lottery vs upside picks which may also explain Bouknight/Springer’s dramatic decline.

Jalen Johnson is an interesting name because he's been all over the place in mocks. I still have a gut feeling that Barnes will drop out of the top 10. He's so risky. He's a 6'9" beast and his game resembles Simmons in some respects. But he's been ineffectual from the perimeter and he can't shoot.

Top 10 list. Otherwise known as the list of players that the Knicks are not going to get.

I'd say so. At the bare minimum, you're getting a rotation level guard. He is old (for the draft), so that might cause him to drop like Obi.

Yeah my thinking with him is that if he can land on a team with multiple scoring options who can hide his lack of offense like Toronto/Indiana then he’ll be alright. The problem with Draymond Green types is that without any scoring threats to pass to, he’s basically near useless on the offensive end.

He might end up at the lower end of the lotto but he is a certified lottery pick.

I think the Donovan comps are going to push him up. Scouts are going to want to make up for missing out D. Mitchell the first time around. That and the fact that no one else really solidified their case.
