I'm not trying to blame as much as explain. I'm speaking to specific topics brought up in the thread, not saying this just for my health (my mental health — partially!) People want to make comparisons to other groups... I acknowledge that and just answer with some of the contrasts for a fuller picture.

I mean looking wistfully at segregation is heavy, dude... I'm sure they wouldn't imagine that either. The original topic of unequal policing went into ideas of black criminality that I am just trying to question respectfully and earnestly.

Has there been any progress in equal opportunity for blacks in corporate America under Obama?

That's a very interesting sentiment and one that I will possibly never understand not having walked in those shoes. First I heard of it but I can see how lacking or questioning ones identity can having a long lasting unconscious effect on a group of people

oh man let's sing kumbaya and lock the thread while we are ahead!

guns were u the poster from Brazil? The way Latin America and Anglo America handled slavery was very different. Catholicism vs Puritanism. Seeing race as a spectrum instead of "one drop". The African influence in Brazil is so deep and evident, religions like Santeria and Yoruba faiths still live, music, and the whole culture benefits from it. In the pre-Civil War US only in New Orleans were drums allowed because it was French Catholic. That's why our musical traditions either stem from there (jazz) or is more vocal-based and rooted in the church. One of the few places our ancestors had some freedom of expression.

What policy does the President of the United States enact to encourage such progress in corporate America?

Never gave it much thought but now that you mentioned it I wholeheartedly agree. I alluded to life in Brazil earlier. There is less grouping and clicks based on perceptions and expectations of race. Everyone gets to practice and enjoy all the benefits like food & music from multiple cultures. Maybe their is less of a problem of religious differences. As most Brazilians whether they are of african, hispanic, european or asian dissent passionately share the same common religion.

It's very interesting now that I think about it and compare it to us

I don't know. The President might be able to help but ultimately I think it is up to the individual. Hopefully everyone is playing on an equal field or at least progressing in the right direction

Did he say subgroup?

WaltLongmire wrote:From the "Know Your Enemy" department,,,

Rep. Steve King (R-IA) on Monday challenged the other participants on an MSNBC panel to name a "subgroup" that contributed more to civilization than white people.

That smoking hot take came moments after Esquire writer Charles Pierce declared that the 2016 Republican National Convention would be the last time "old white people" would command the attention of the Republican Party.

"This whole business does get a little tired, Charlie," King said. "I would ask you to go back through history and figure out where are these contributions that have been made by these other categories of people that you are talking about, where did any other subgroup of people contribute more to civilization?"

"Than white people?" MSNBC host Chris Hayes interjected.

"Than—than western civilization itself that's rooted in western Europe, eastern Europe and the United States of America, and every place where christianity settled the world," King said. "That's all of western civilization."

"But what about Africa, what about Asia?" reporter April Ryan asked.

Everyone on the panel then began furiously speaking over each other.

"We are not going to argue the history of civilization," Hayes said, trying to get the segment back on track.

"Let's argue the history of this country, okay?" Ryan said.

Amen.

misterearl--a 70 year old male from Iowa doesnt represent the majority of white people. I was kind of taken back today when you said dont play the rape card--exactly what kind of psychotic thought process was that IT? I would worry much more about the young man who raped the helpless 21 year old and then said this is for 400 years of slavery bitch and continue on to piss in her face. I would feel much worse about that then some old man on a 1 minute interview--Id worry much more that black men have raped white women 150k times in the last ten years while white men have raped no black women. Can you imagine IT if 4 white men did that to a black woman why dont you think about that for one minute?--look at the last two weeks--it would be anarchy? Like Isaid in my first post--common sense clearly dictates that it is very likely that cops eye AA males because they create much more violent crime than anyone else. Thats it misterearl--there is nothing else there--there is no mystery white organization that hangs around and thinks about what can we do to black people to hold them down. the cops are simply much more heightened and on guard.

By the way this is Michael Brown just a few moments before he was killed. He simply went into a convenience store with complete disregard for any law--reached behind the counter and stole a box of cigarettes and then physically threatened the life of the employee. So Im going to feel bad or take the word of this guy over a policeman? This guy was a pure unadulterated punk and he put himself into his own grave.

An NFL hall of famer responds to Steve King

"Every white person on my site that graduated from an Ivy League school in 3 and 1/2 years and was an All American in any sport and/or started 14 years in the NFL at linebacker can claim that they are more superior to me and all other African American people like your GOP spokesman inflaming stupidity. I don't think in those terms but Trump supporters do. The lines are wide open at 407-649-7587 which is my real #."

This is the same thought process. Reggie is lumping in ALL white people for one 70 year old guy most of us have never heard of. He is generalizing that all white people feel that way--again its insane. You cant see that misterearl--what in the name of God do 99% of white people have to do with one 70 year old male?

Im sure AA dont want to lump in with Corey Batey or Bill Cosby? Think before you speak??? 1 man does not represent a whole.

Perhaps it was done on purpose? Why? IMO, to drive home a point that although it was said 8 years ago, little has been done to support the people. Instead roadblocks have been put up that makes it harder to do what the statement intends. Less people are working in this country today since the 70s. The "progress" is a sham. As I said earlier, I feel that the mission is to bring down everyone so we can suffer together. It should be to bring UP, the ones that are down. Increase the wealth of the country. Unleash people to make a life for themselves. Educate everyone as to why it has to be that way.

Mrs. Trump III might not have understood what she was doing, but either she or her handlers made a foolish mistake that has taken over the narrative for day 1 of their convention.

Sampling might be OK in some circles...but you can't get away with what she did last night.

Seems ironic, though, that she robbed her words from the wife of the man who was a focus of their hatred last night...only second to what they feel about Ms. Clinton.

The Trump people are not saying it was plagarized, and if you take words from another like she did, you have to credit the person you took the words from...awkward in this case to credit the source, though.
