Well it's been a tense 24 hours or so...I am guessing most of us voted similarly for the prez. At 5pm Wednesday there is no winner declared but for those hoping for a Biden win there is more hope than last night and this morning. My calculations could be off, but it seems to me a win in Michigan and Nevada would do it. And CBS News just declared Michigan for Biden. (edit -- also Arizona is in the mix though some have projected it for Biden.)

However we learned a while back not to rule out the cunning Red Fox.....

Whatever the outcome. Believe we're learning that for many voters. Attitude trumps competence. And what an attitude.

Republicans have been good at marketing the fear of socialism, yes. People don’t understand the difference between capitalism with strong safety nets and socialism. So older ppl who migrated from other countries once they hear socialism talk they get scared. Then of course there are the ppl who will only vote for the tax breaks.

My empathy for those who fled left wing strongmen to come to this country ends when they embrace a right wing strongman instead. Dogwhistles of socialism or not.

Many who came to this country from former socialist economies with little more than the shirt off their back. Made a life for themselves through hard work, perserverance, and some form of govt assistance. Like free schooling, medical care. Which they should get because most immigrants (legal or not) pay into the system. You know what that govt assistance is called? As you know, Socialism!

What republicans really did was make it sound like a binary choice when it hasnt been for almost 100 years. You think elderly Trump voters in rural areas understand that many of them would be living in cardboard boxes without the main source of their income coming from a socialist program? Because capitalism failed them in some form?

I dont want to abolish capitalism, or socialism. The right have been making it a false and binary choice since they tried to block the creation of Social Security. Is what has been the biggest obstacle to progress. That and Dems acting like republicans.

Social Security was the most successful anti-poverty program ever created, anywhere. Up to the rise of China as an economic superpower. Which both parties should shsre the blame.

The same conservatives who rail against socialiasm would never think of giving up their gold plated, socialist health care, provided by the American taxpayer. Its hypocrisy, its low information voters, its those who just like the way Trump owns the Libs.

I never understood this anti-socialism rant. America already has plenty of “socialist programs” and Medicare for all is not that crazy of an idea. America is always going to be a capitalistic society even if we add a few socialist programs. What it really is about is Republicans are just trying to scare the uneducated so that they can keep from sharing their wealth with the less fortunate in this country. It all comes back to greed.

It’s all but over for Trump. PA will likely be added to MI WI NV and GA has a solid chance too

Senate looks like only 48 for Biden

Really felt this was even more important. With a Dem controlled Senate, Trump would be impeached.

This. Most Do not know the definition. Nor that most advanced coumtries offer such programs specifically health care. Surprisingly those that escaped Castro fail to see
bigger similarities between Trump and Castro. Do they not see Trump wanting to build a wall resembling the one that stood in Berlin? Or how ethnic looking citizens are being asked for their papers because of how they look. Resembling Germany in the 40's. Or how the republicans use most of taxpayers money to build up their armies or help make the rich elite even richer and ignore the basic needs of the average citizen? Like Castro did in Cuba.

Don't concern yourself with the title. But something to continue to pay attention to within the Democratic party. Which was united in removing Donald Trump but aren't united in ideals going forward. If some of the things spoken in the video come to pass. Like Biden working with McConnell when choosing his cabinet in order to keep it conservative... Paying attention can't stop at Trump.

I have a sense i may be one of the older posters on this board and generally stay out of threads touching on politics for a variety of reasons

but i heard a commentator the other night mention that, once up a time, there was such a thing as conservative democrats and liberal republicans. ANd i was like yes that was absolutely true, and was reminded of Nelson Rockefeller (Rockefeller republicans) socially liberal, but fiscally conservative

also reminded of a time when democrats were more for states rights, and limited federal power, who whether or not they fervently believed in gun control or minimum wage certainly believed that was a state issue, not federal. Even Bill Clinton, when Governor, felt states should have more responsibility/roles -- so not that looong ago

i say this just to remind people that the labels democrat and republicans are fixed but their fundamental principles have shifted wildly over time.

Guessing we are in ballpark age-wise -- I grew up in Virginia then Florida and my dad was a southerner -- the Democratic party was far and away the popular party -- "Dixiecrats." My parents were registered Democrats but I know they often went outside the party vote-wise. I'm not one to pine for the good ol' days as there was plenty wrong which is still coming to bear -- but the parties were not so divided. Ike, Johnson, Humphrey, even Nixon, among many others would not be recognized per se by their respective parties today. On the other hand socially with the Viet Nam war, civil rights, youth culture and so on we were every bit as divided.

Good to bring up the “DixieCrat” which evokes memories of Jesse Helms. At the same time you had the “Goldwater” Republican which promoted smaller government an more “libertarian” slant. Republican Party was more mainstream and Barry Goldwater’s 1964 campaign for the White House failed vs. Lyndon B Johnson.
Let’s not forget the era of McCarthy that preceded.
country is far too ignorant to digest what public socialism is. How is it you have Trump who has more autocratic /Dictatorship tendencies yet they label liberal left as “Socialists” who don’t see Canada-UK-France-Sweden-ETC-ETC but instead fear Bernie as some Pinochet/Franco type government?
Trump might be dumber than his core constituents.

This will really smart, and hurt his ability to stay relevant

From the Guardian..

Donald Trump could lose more than just the presidency this January. Twitter has confirmed that, if Trump leaves office, he will no longer receive special treatment as a “newsworthy individual”.

Twitter’s policy around newsworthiness protects certain people – such as elected officials with more than 250,000 followers – from having their accounts suspended or banned for rule infractions that would otherwise lead to severe penalties.

A narcissist sociopath won’t go away. He’ll reemerge with rallies, but charge for tickets and start a new right wing show in some form. This miserable human will continue his destructive manner.
He will protest his legal issues, his taxes, and he will attract those who love him.
“Unfair”...........“Lock him up”......”Deep state”........over and over.

Wouldn't be surprised if he tried to build a media empire, which might be why he started attacking Fox News a few weeks ago. Trump news or some sort of BS

You need money to do that. Trump is heavily in debt. Has a long history of stiffing his creditors. Might have to do his show from a prison cell. There is also the possibility that the family flees the country to avoid prison. As one writer put it, Trump will be on every ride in "depositionland".

Murdoch has already started turning on him. Printing negative stories about the Trump family in the NY post. No way he wants another competitor.

Not to mention the right wing billionaires who backed Trump, got what they wanted from a Trump presidency. They might be ready to cut him loose. Look for a younger, saner, slicker, politician to promote their policies.

Not saying there wont be a Trump network, but I doubt it will be a real challenge to Fox's dominance. They're PO'd at Fox for calling Arizona for Biden, but eventually Murdoch will make his talking heads on the network change their tune. They know they might not get paid on Trump TV.

Democrats haven't pushed enough to expose that the claims of fraud was the plan all along imo. Even though they already knew what would happen which is why they tried to fight the legal batter before hand to get votes counted early. They could easily expose all the battles and laws the GOP pushed in order create the fraud narrative. And should have been doing so, so they could call it out as it happened. AKA fight the battle to control the public narrative.

Trump was told it was over on one of his golf courses. Wouldnt surprise me if that memory pops up, every time he tees off. From now on.

All that time on his golf courses, and sticking the American taxpayer with the bill.

I'll exhale when he's really out of office. Still time for mischief.
