I hope Kennedy gets healthy. We're at these 11 pitchers most likely:

Pettitte
Wang
Clemens
Mussina
Hughes
Joba
Rivera
Viz
Villone
Farns
Wildcard- I'd take Britton

I wish we'd seen more of Ohlendorf. Torre keeps saying good things about him, but how is he gonna take him on the postseason roster if he never uses him?

Kennedy is key... w/o him, we're stuck w/only Hughes as an option in long relief... no thanks to Britton, i have to agree with isles, i'd rather see Ohly make the roster if Kennedy can't go... what about Veras? he's been throwing well lately & has good velocity on his fastball... still might take Edwar too... he's having a rough stretch right now, but that changeup of his can come in very handy when we're in need of a big strikeout & have a good fastball hitting batter up at the plate.

I think Veras is definitely a possibility- Joe is using him more and more and knows him from last year. He has been erratic too. All those guys have had control problems. At the same time his stuff looks very good on occasion. I think he's a definite possibility.

Edwar was supposed to have a mechanical flaw fixed, but I mean he was a total disaster last night. He's either striking somewhat out or just getting pounded. I think his problem is approach as much as anything- he needs to get ahead in the count so he can throw the change and avoid having to throw his fastball in hitters counts. If anything he needs to learn to cut his fastball cause he's not gonna get velocity, but needs to get more movement. Or he should just throw that change as much as he can get away with. Anyway, Edwar is a complete wild card every time he goes out and I think you can't risk having him out there.

If Ohlendorf is to be a possibility he needs to get a lot of work this week. Britton is a good pitcher- he just needs a shot.

BTW, signs would seem to be pointing to no go on Kennedy. And Clemens probably won't make a start for the rest of the year so we may really need a long man.

Honestly, if he has another couple of good outings it could very well be Kei Igawa in there.

Wang, Pettitte, Mussina, and Hughes are all healthy and would start if Clemens can't start. I hope Igawa doesn't become the long man!

Kei Igawa pitching in the postseason = Jeff Weaver in '03

we're asking for serious trouble if he's on the postseason roster, mark my words.

as for Edwar, maybe Mariano can work w/him the way he fixed up Vizco & teach him that cutter & how to get ahead on counts so he can use that change to his advantage?

That's what I was proposing above. I dunno if he can learn the cutter in a few days though- I think he's more a next year guy at this point.

it's not a choice of if "we" let a-rod go, it's totally up to arod.

if this article is correct and they offer him ownership, how could he refuse that deal? it's 100% up to arod.

we've won before without arod, we can win again. but if he leaves, we will totally become a different team and will probably have to play a different type of baseball.

i don't buy that article for a second... they don't even know who the owners of the Cubs will be, how the hell can Boras already be having conversations to give ARod part ownership? it's a rumor leaked by Boras' camp to try & strong arm the Yankees into paying through the nose on a new extension... he's running out of chips to play because he knows ARod wants to stay in NY & no other team out there will pay him close to what the Yankees will.

looks like i was right about it being a bogus rumor:

http://www.dailysouthtown.com/sports/574404,092607cubsnb.article
The top member of the Cubs' brass had a good laugh this week.

Cubs president John McDonough on Tuesday denied a weekend report on the New York Magazine Web site that said members of New York Yankees star Alex Rodriguez's camp were in talks about bringing the star to Chicago with a front-runner who would buy the Cubs. There was reportedly a 10-year, $300 million deal discussed that would include deferred money for future ownership in the team.

That type of deal would be against Major League Baseball rules.

While A-Rod could opt out of his deal after this season and the Cubs likely would have interest in trying to bring him to town, McDonough found the New York Magazine story to be humorous.

"I laughed when I heard it - it's outrageous," McDonough said.

Added Cubs manager Lou Piniella, who managed Rodriguez in Seattle when A-Rod broke into the league: "There's no truth to that story. Do you think his agent (Scott Boras) would fall into a trap like that? He wouldn't do that."

Boras denied the report.

"Great players with great demand create great rumors," Boras told The Associated Press. "While I would enjoy having lunch with (potential Cubs owners) Mark Cuban and (John) Canning, at this point of the year, that conversation would not include Alex Rodriguez. I have not talked to anyone."

Angels are losing again.

Looks like it's Yankees-Indians in the first round.

Good, let Boston deal with LA and travel cross country in the first round.

don't take the tribe too casually... we haven't had to deal w/their tough lefty ace Sabathia all year, & they are set to choose the 3 days off schedule, so that means we'll be facing Sabathia & Carmona 4 times if the series goes to 5 games.

& we all know how we've struggled vs. lefty pitching this season.

Not taking the Tribe lightly at all. They're a young tough team that can give the Yankees all they can handle. But I'd rather take my chances with them over an Angels team that we alway's have trouble with.

We handled Carmona and we've always done well against Sabathia. Plus their bullpen isn't that great, especially their closer. Plus no traveling cross country to start the series.

I agree the angels don't have the talent the yankees do, but their stye kills us, they always put the ball in play and they run the bases and with the yankees defense the way it is, it plays right into the angels hands....

back in may - i thought the yanks would'nt make it.

the kids come up, infuse the team with energy and the yanks are now in the playoffs.

this has been my favorite yankee season in a long long time.

same here, reminds me of the time when cano and wang came up and along with melky helped push the yanks into postseason.

i agree w/all ur points there... just don't want a repeat of last year when we all thought DET would be an afterthought in our path towards the ALCS, & we got our butts smoked.

Michael Kay got a bit obnoxious announcing A-Rod's homer. I think he was trying to get his own voice on the Sports Center highlights

Michael Kay is extremely annoying. Sterling is much more fun to listen to. Kay makes the most ridiculously dumb observations and tries to treat them like insight. At least soon we won't have to hear him anymore.

Nice game by Hughes tonight. It's also sad that Tampa Bay has all of this offensive talent, yet they can't get much pitching to make them good, especially in their lousy bullpen. They're going nowhere like that.

kay is pretty bad. sterling tho...jeez, that guy is just a parody.

here's the crazy thing - all first round of the playoffs are on TBS - which means those in NY can not watch any first round playoff game (AL or NL) on HD. and the 2nd round, the NL is on TBS while the AL is on FOX. so until the world series, no NL games in HD and the AL gets HD only after the first round. what the heck is MLB thinking?
