From looking at all the reports, I get the impression Wang's gonna miss the rest of the season with a shoulder injury. In the past 12 months, he's been on the DL for foot, hip, and shoulder injuries.

Well he's supposedly seeing a guy named Dr. James Andrews. Apparently that means it's probably more on the worst case scenario side.

Sucks.

Oh, and to the people that say we don't need another starting pitcher. Lets say Joba continues to play like he has the past two starts. His innings limits may very well only allow him another 5 starts or something close to that.

That also sucks.

If there's any way to get Holliday without giving up Joba or Hughes, I'd do it. Cano + Gardner + Aceves (who could probably be a #3 starter for them) + 1 (or maybe 2) high minor league prospect could be offered. It probably wouldn't be enough though. Holliday would push us from being "one of the contenders" to the status we had in the late 90's as "the top contender." And I believe we could stay as "the top contender" for a 3 to 4 year window like we had in the late 90s. Yeah, it would suck to give that much talent to a division rival but they wouldn't have the pitching to be a serious threat to us.

It's the way we lost this one that bothers me. Pettitte pitched his ass off then this subpar bullpen just opens up the flood gates & gives it away. Andy deserved better - he's been pitching so much better lately now that he's re-committed to throwing his cutter once again. No doubt he a little older now & it's a taxing pitch on his arm/elbow and that's probably why he's shied away from it the past couple of seasons (in his younger days he used to throw that pitch at least 75% of the time, probably more), but for him to pitch at optimum performance, he needs to throw it and to his credit he has (gotta credit Molina as well for calling for it more the past two starts). That's his outpitch and it's been great for him throughout his career... Anyway, this is one they should take a good look at and learn from. Very simple for me - not trying to knock Ace, he's been great for us, but in that situation today, clearly we needed a middle-inning STOPPER when Andy departed, not a long man. Ace almost got out of it but almost isn't good enough right there. Not acceptable. Not now, in a pennant race with a couple of weeks to go before the deadline. Aceves' role is easy to define for me - if we're down 6-0, 7-0 in the first few innings and Joe's forced to pull a starter, you call on a guy like Aceves to give you some quality length to allow the offense to get you back in the game. That's his role. Today we needed a shutdown guy right there. Under normal circumstances, Hughes would've come in there to put the fire out but I guess he was unavailable after just throwing his 2 inning save. Bruney's got the stuff to be the guy there but he's just not right yet for whatever reason (this guy's pitching with no confidence at all) and you can tell that Joe just doesn't have the feel to throw him out there in that spot right now. And who can blame him? Robertson and Melancon? Same deal. Big problem fellas. Unless we can come up with a better option, it needs to be Joba AND Hughes setting up for Mariano sometime soon. And the sooner they do it, the better - give Joba some time to get a feel for that type of work again (for the Joba I've seen the past couple of starts, a guy pitching with his mojo again, it won't be a problem). At least one of those two needs to be available for 7th/8th inning pressure shutdown work every game. I mean they just came out and said they're looking into curbing Joba's innings sometime soon anyway. Do it now - go get another starter and return Joba to the pen. Simple solution. You go about this any other way and it's curtains come playoff time, maybe we don't even make it to the playoffs and then what? Poor Girardi's left holding the bag? Help him out Cash!!!!!

If we're going to blame our bullpen, we are going to have to blame Andy too for this game, but not being able to hold his own that 7th inning, or Girardi for not taking him out. And we're gonna have to blame the offense for not producing today and blame the As starting pitcher for pitching lights out.

Aceves was part of the reason we lost. Not the reason.

Not looking to blame anyone buddy, believe me. I'm looking to win the pennant and eventually a World Series. That's it. We're too close and have too good a club to think any other way. If there's things I see that can make us better and give us a better shot at reaching those goals, I'm gonna voice an opinion and I'd expect you to do the same. Not blaming Ace for the loss today at all - he did fail when called upon but that's a tough spot for a long reliever right there, even a good one like him. To me that's just not his role. Like I said before, we need 1 more reliable shutdown arm in that pen in addition to Hughes and Mariano, and if that wasn't made crystal clear after yesterday's loss I don't know what to tell ya. The easiest solution would be to put Joba there and it looks like that may happen eventually. If it does, he needs to then be replaced with a decent starting pitcher, a bonafide #3 type or better if possible. Cash is out there looking. I mean he just inquired about Cliff Lee. I'd love to add Erik Bedard but there's plenty of other quality starters out there that could fit the bill and allow us to change Joba's role - Washburn, Arroyo, Oswalt... Only a few more days left 'til the deadline. We'll see what happens. Cash is gonna make a nice move here soon, I can feel it..

Gardner on the DL but Joe G says we won't bring up Austin Jackson, which sucks. Dunno if they'll bring up Duncan as they'll have to open a spot on the 40 man
