The nonviolent resistance and subsequent overthrow of the imperial British Empire has nothing on Hughes

Hughes was excellent last night and today, CC was tremendous. Good to see. I'm glad CC paid Verlander back for the last time they matched up in Detroit where Sabathia pitched a CG and lost. Beating Verlander today the way they did has gotta be a big confidence boost for everyone involved here. Nice 2-0 start to the second half...

Quick question - What's everyone's opinion on going after this Cuban defector Aroldis Chapman? Big strong lefty pitcher who supposedly throws 100 MPH - I think he's anywhere from 21-26 years old, depending who's telling the truth. Just got my ESPN The Magazine and I read the quick article they had on him on pg. 49. Interesting. Do we get involved here? The writer of the article suspects it could possibly take a contract in the neighborhood of $32 mil. to get him. I say yes, go get him. You can never have enough pitching talent and he looks like he's got an electric arm. ESPN article also states that "it could be months before Chapman is able to establish residency in another country and declare himself a free agent." Really? Why? Was that the case with Contreras when we stole him away from the Red Sux? And where is he right now? Talked about him over a week ago with a buddy and he told me he saw a report saying Chapman was missing or something. Anyone hear that? Well I say send out a search party and let's go find this guy. Potential big time lefty arm we could add to the mix here for just money. Thoughts???

we definitely should be looking into that Cuban kid... that type of stuff doesn't grow on trees... hopefully he's got some control to go with it.
After 7 years & 40K+ posts, banned by martin for calling Nalod a 'moron'. Awesome.

Missed the last two games, which sucks considering the performances from Joba and Hughes. Hughes is now completely untouchable as a reliever. He hasn't allowed a run since his 2nd outing as a reliever against Boston.

and with joba hopefully settling in as a starter, hughes can stay in the pen and give the yankees one of the best 8-9 inning combo's in baseball. great game to see joba show some fire and get out of some jams, going to new yankee tomorrow for the first time, can't wait, hopefully andy can give us a solid start.

Anyone think the reason Joba's fastball was faster was that he had all the rest from the AS break? I think he can be a great starter but his arm may not be ready yet for 6 innings every 5 days. Maybe that will come in one or two years. Normally when a 23 year old goes 8-3 with a 3.52 ERA in his first 160 innings as a starter no one would even entertain the idea of putting the pitcher in the bullpen.

To me I think he had a really bad offseason with the DUI and the stuff that happened with his mother etc. I'm not sure he was completely ready to go at the start of the year. There is still some concern but I'm hoping the break gives him what he needs to get going.

I knew Hideki would come through there. I was saying it was Matsui's time to shine for once.

I agree this is the most confident I have been in a Yankee team in several years. Mostly because I think this lineup top to bottom can explode at any time, and because we finally have at least 2-3 pitchers in the bullpen that can shut down the game. The bullpen in the first month or so was a disaster but since then it has been a revelation.

would you say they are the best bullpen in baseball

that's a cue for bonn to intercede with small sample scale mumbo jumbo...
