Wang had shoulder stiffness or soreness. Not good.

Other than that. Excellent win. Another great job by the bullpen.

That sucks although he's the starter we could most afford to lose. I've actually got the same thing (from basketball) and I'm gonna be sidelined for a week or two I think.

Wang had at least finally established himself as mediocre. So it does hurt a bit, b/c whatever the situation is its going to hurt our bullpen in the short term. One would guess its Hughes, but Aceves could be the guy going into the rotation as well. Either way you're taking one of the top 3-4 guys from the pen.

On Hughes: “I can say one thing, I don’t see us taking him out of that role right now. He’s probably less built up than anyone that we have so he will probably not be one of our options. … I see him staying in the bullpen.”

Hughes, down the road, is he still a starter?

“I still believe that he is a starter. You’ll see a lot of young pitchers that come up and have success in the bull pen and then the move them over to the rotation because on any given day you’re not asking too much from them in a sense. I think his stuff right now plays out well in both, but I think he’s been really, really good in the bullpen and has been really helpful to us, and that’s another reason that we might keep him there for a while. And the other thing is he’s not built up, and it’s tough to build them up here. You would have to send him down for a while and we’re not comfortable doing that right now with the way he’s throwing the baseball.”

Neither Hughes or Aceves is built up to go 9 right now, but if Wang is out long term one would think that one of these guys has to get built up, b/c we damn sure can't be trotting out Sergio Mitre every 5 days.

Joba's been pitching very poorly. His WHIP is more revealing than his ERA. I don't know if it's simply because he's a starting pitcher or if something more significant is wrong. He was much less hittable than this as a starter last year.

His location is off in addition to his velocity. IMO he would not be having the same kind of success as s reliever right now either. He just has to pitch through it...he hasn't been THAT bad. We're still winning most of the games he pitches.

Yankees just will not go away. Matsui is on fire lately.

Yanks come all the way back and take the lead. They are truly unbelievable.

Eh, here it just looks like tons of lead changes because neither team's starter could pitch respectably. A comeback when 18 runs so far have been scored seems less "heroic" to me. I'll take the win (if we hold on) but I wouldn't call it unbelievable.

I think below average pitching plus very good hitting will always translate into blowing a lot of leads and getting a lot of come from behind wins (as well as a fair number of blown leads that lead to losses).

Pretty stupid comment if you ask me, as the Yankees erase an 8-4 deficit and come back to win 10-8.

huh? I know what the score was. How does that relate to the intelligence of the comment?!

Only 1 game back of Boston now! We'd be SEVEN games ahead of them if it weren't for those head to head matchups!

i definitely think Hughes should be back in the rotation asap... he's throwing the ball extremely well of late... i like Aceves in the utility relief role, he seems to have found a niche there.

Yankees put Wang back on the DL. This season has been worse for him than anyone could have imagined.

at least it's not his foot... clearly he is compensating, but the man is going to have to learn to alter his delivery. This season has been forgettable, but I think he's a good enough pitcher to bounce back next year given enough time to learn to generate arm speed without slamming his foot down and without adding extra burden on his shoulder/elbow

he may not miss more than a start. they can skip him once, then comes the all star break and they can re-evaluate.

Tough loss, especially with blatant missed calls in the mix (Jeter caught stealing, Hinske called out at 2nd).

Still, Yanks take 3 of 4 for the Jays, are 1.5 behind Boston with 6 games left before the All Star break, and are playing some great ball with ARod coming back to life at the plate.

We definitely got screwed around by the umps today. Nice come back again- this team is never out of a game, but just a little shy today. Andy definitely has to be better.

agreed - yanks are doin just fine. arod coming back to life and matsui is performing great considering he isnt even 80%. the all star break will be great to get our hurt players some rest then bomb into the 2nd half and make some ground up on boston.

in general, lots of good baseball this year....it seems like each division is up for grabs in both the nl and al. looking forward to a great 2nd half of the year.
