do you think joba can go back to throwing 98 in the pen?

the kid is learning how to pitch at the big league level. look at halladay's #'s his first few years.

joba's 4-0 2.7 era on the road. tells me the guy knows how to pitch. keep him in the starting rotation and let him develop.

hughes wasn't a starter for the team coming into this season. he got a few starts b/c of wang's problems. you let wang work it out, let joba develop and hughes will be a full time starter next season to replace andy.
Joba looked very good as a starter last season and has looked good on the road as a starter this season. You can't switch his role every few months. I wouldn't even entertain the thought of switching him to the bullpen this season.

in the past couple weeks i've noticed ARod has really begun swinging the bat w/explosion again & he's taking the ball up the middle again, which is a great sign... last night he took a high & inside fastball & turned on it & crushed it into the LF bleechers, another great sign that his bat speed is back to where it should be.

but moreso than his offense, i think his defense has been absolutely stellar in the past week... he's making every play that comes to him at 3B & some spectacular ones that he used to have trouble with... his throws to 1B have been great as well this year, rarely have i seen him underthrow or overthrow Teix at 1B like he's done in past years... i predict he'll win a Gold Glove at 3B this season.

Yankees are playing some good baseball of late & they're getting ARod back to where he should be... let's hope the team goes on a roll going into the Allstar break.

BTW, can someone explain to me why in the blue hell we kept Cody Ransom and sent Pena down to AAA in lieu of the Hinske move? Somehow we managed to downgrade ourselves...

You can't be serious. I knew I wasn't going to like that Hinske move. Pena was doing awesome for us. We really played ourselves on this one.

Oh man, I don't know what they were thinking here. I still like the Hinske move. They just made a stupid follow-up to it, though.

Pena is the heir apparent to SS. They want him to get regular PT and more swings... I actually like the Hinske move more now because Pena is talented and needs consistent reps

Jeter's got quite a few seasons left. What's the point in holding onto someone as his heir apparent then? Wouldn't it make more sense to trade him (or include him in a package) where we got someone who could have a bigger role sooner?

Yeah, but some say he's going in the outfield sooner than later b/c of his range.

Either way. It would have been nice to keep Pena. He would have had playing time with ARods 1 day a week off and Jeter getting a half day every now and then.

pena is being morphed into chone figgins. he's going down to learn how to play the outfield and he will be a super utility guy next season for us...

Yeah they are saying that Pena is gonna play in the OF and come back later. I'm not sure how much we need him in the outfield. Either way Pena >>>>> Ransom who is not a major league talent. Pena was still getting pretty decent PT here despite being a bench player, so we will hurt in short run. Neither Hinske or Ransom can pinch run or field the way he can, and Ransom definitely isn't as good with the bat.

Pena is 23 years old and was far from an elite prospect... he keeps it up his value will only increase. He'll get better with consistent play. Not to mention he already has a taste of the bigs so I'm sure he's gonna bust his ass to get back

and DJ I like the Chone Figgins comparison... he'll probably become the middle infield version

i agree... Pena needs to be playing everyday, he wouldn't get the AB's up here that he needs to develop... he will be back soon enough during September callups... Hinske's a vet who is used to playing off the bench & getting limited AB's.

MLB extra innings is not picking up this game. Why did Wang leave early?

Wang had shoulder stiffness or soreness. Not good.

Other than that. Excellent win. Another great job by the bullpen.
