WHY? That doesn't seem beneficial? Drop 8 slots this year for a 2029 random pick?

Our real draft begins tonight. We'll be walking away with somebody. Gotta fill roster spots with cheap 2nd round picks, so I wouldn't be surprised to see trading down

I don’t love the trade. But a kings pick is a real asset nonetheless. I just thought there were quality players here to choose from. Let’s see if they keep 39 and if there’s still a decent player there.

Kind of like the houston pick

My suspicion is Knicks know what they’re doing. We’re champions fellas

Sometimes entropy is a good thing. Every draft is about picking the right talent, right fit and have the right infrastructure to develop them. I trust this front office. Not sure how we can't

Especially considering our dearth of draft assets in a salary cap era that requires a healthy mix of them

Maybe moving down is to ensure that player accepts the 1.4M exception. A guy who thought he was going first round may not approve of that.

USAToday wrote:Jack Kayil 2026 NBA Draft prediction: Pick No. 28 overall, Brooklyn Nets
Kalbrosky's Analysis:

Much like with the Heat at No. 13, the Timberwolves will be making this selection on behalf of the the Brooklyn Nets, who acquired the pick and Julius Randle from the Minnesota. The Nets, in turn, are sending the No. 33 pick (third pick of the second round) to the Timberwolves. One player the Nets may have their eyes on is Jack Kayil, who surprisingly decided to stay in the draft as an international candidate after initially committing to play for Gonzaga next season. He was likely confident in the feedback that he received during the pre-draft process if he chose to not play collegiate basketball. Kayil was named the Basketball Champions League Best Young Player in Europe after averaging 20.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 5.9 assists per 36 minutes across 65 appearances this season.

Weaknesses: Lacks elite speed/explosiveness, struggles to finish around big defenders, ceiling as a role player Bleacher Report+1

Realistic Pro Comparison: Cason Wallace — well-rounded combo guard with shooting and playmaking Bleacher Report+1

NBA Comparison: Andrew Nembhard, Jalen Suggs, Jrue Holiday, Tony Wroten
Playing Style
Kayil is a versatile combo guard who can operate on and off the ball. He excels at:

Playmaking: Heavy pick-and-roll handler with controlled pacing and accurate passing Bleacher Report

Shooting: Confident from catch-and-shoot and off the dribble, with clean mechanics NBADraft.net

Defense: Anticipation, lateral quickness, and physicality NBA
Outlook
Kayil’s combination of shooting, playmaking, and maturity makes him a late-first/early-second-round fit in the NBA. His development in contact and finishing will be key to maximizing his potential NBA.
