What a great game! Certainly not the shootout people were expecting. I think it was Mike Wilbon who predicted the winning team would need at least 126 points tonight (not sure I can fault that prediction either).
Carmelo took his talents to South Beach! Melo vs. LeBron was a great matchup. I look forward to seeing more of it in the postseason.
Our stars stepped up tonight. Both Melo and STAT playing strong defense at the end of the game (and of course Chauncey, too). How about Mr. Big Shot? Completely gave this team the momentum we needed to close out this game. We've watched this team find ways to blow leads for years to these kind of closers. We now have not one, not two, but three guys we can trust with the ball in the final seconds!
I was proud of this team, even if we would have come away with a loss. Only the 3rd game together, as much as I hoped for and cheered for a win, I would not have been surprised to see this wind up a blowout. I joked on Friday after that loss to the Cavs about how the Knick thing to do would be to lay an egg vs. Cleveland and steal one from Miami. Jokes on me. We did.
What I'm most proud of from tonight is the toughness this team showed. The first half of the season, we had a tendency to lag around after a play complaining about a noncall. Tonight, we watched our guys get hacked (enough that even the ESPN announcers admitted to it) and there was no yelling - they just stayed with the play and finished. Amar'e goes up strong, grabbed by Wade, hit by LeBron, finishes and goes back on defense. Chauncey drives, gets a clear hack that throws him off balance, recovers, and goes in for the layup.
I'm proud to watch these guys and see New York on their chest.
And that's why the State of the Knicks is strong!
