Yankees just don't matchup with the Sox plain and simple. The Yankees biggest strength is their lineup and what beats a good lineup? Great pitching and the Sox have it.

I don't think its a matchup thing. The Yankees are just as talented top to bottom if not better. Sox have decent pitching but the fact of the matter is Brad Penny blew chunks before tonight, Beckett has been erratic, Wakefield is mediocre, Lester hass been poor and Dice K has been a disaster. What I'm saying is their rotation isn't dominating anyone other than the Yanks. There's a mental hurdle there right now that's a little bizarre b/c they had been playing so well up until this point. But I have full confidence they will overcome it before the year is out.

I guess when the curse was reversed it all went downhill for us against the Sox.
Thank you, Rick Brunson.

what I don't get is thejock riding of the red sox pen. its now becoming a trend to hate on the yanks pen and bigging up the sox pen. when the sox pen didn't hold the lead. aceves was in a tight spot that cc put him in...unlike the sox pen that started that inning we got 2 runs on. but whatever...oh and then coke pitches like a stud...but again...whatever...

the yanks are down 0-3 to the sox in a best of 7. they need that one play to break it and turn the tide to our favor. but until that happens, they have our number. I aint mad at that. we don't have to sweat it with 102 games left...and its really moot if we don't face them in the postseason.

What I don't is why you rely so much on small samples--in this case, a sample of 1 game (last night). You seem to think the smaller the sample, the better a case it makes. However, the exact opposite is correct. Look at their pen's season-long stats and also look at the career stats of their key bullpen pitchers. Do the same for the Yankees next. Then you might understand why they have the best pen in baseball and why no one agrees with you that we do.

DJ when you are running out; Masterson, Delcarmen, Okajima and Saito (who would be one of the best closers in baseball if he were in that spot) in front of Pappelbonn, you aren't going to lose many games in the late innings.

That's not even counting Ramirez (who although gave up back to back jacks the other day is having an otherwise great year) and Daniel Bard who might end up being the best guy coming out of that pen infront of Papps then I don't get where the Yankees even come close to matching that.

CC pitched his heart out last nite, but our pen is going to be an ongoing issue as long as Joba isn't setting up in the late innings... it's just a fact... hard to move Joba back into the pen w/Hughes & Wang as inconsistent as they are tho... tough situation there.

we better win this series vs the Muts this weekend, or else some heads are gonna roll.

you really think the situation is that dire? the team's been winning like no-one's business and tex is easily the mvp of the team (and probably of the league) right now. yes, we hick-up'ed again against the sox, but long season and no need for anything drastic to happen. we need arod to get out of his slump, cano too and some better outings from wang is all. we'll be fine.

The Yankees can lose the entire season to the Sox for all I care - as long as they get into the playoffs and beat them.

i don't literally think heads are gonna roll, but if George were still in charge u can bet some people would be feeling the heat... he hates to lose to the Red Sox & Mets more than anything... doesn't matter if the Yanks are in 1st place or last place.

how u gonna be confident going into a playoff series vs. the Red Sox if we keep losing to them like this in the regular season?

Agreed. It's frustrating to lose the regular season games but I think the overall regular season record of a team is a much better predictor of how it will do in a playoff series than is the regular season head-to-head matchup record, as the former is a much bigger, more reliable sample than the latter.

One more point about our bullpen: If we had a good bullpen that Girardi had cofindence in, CC wouldn't have even been asked to pitch the 8th inning. He would have just been congratulated on 7 strong innings and our 'pen would protect the 2 run lead.

If you put Joba in the 'pen, all it accomplishes is shifting the problem. Instead of having a problematic pen, we have a problematic starting rotation. That's not the solution. I'd rather not change Joba's role every 3 months but instead give him a legitimate shot (at least one full season but preferably two full seasons) as a starter. He hasn't been a superstar starter but I think he's done pretty well anyway. Getting a solid setup man is not the hardest thing in the world--it's not like we need to go out and get an ACE starter. Cashman just needs to get on the phone and do his job ASAP.

I am not saying I will be confident about our chances, but I just want to see the Sox go down to the Yankees in the playoffs. I went to college up in Boston so I have a special dislike for the Red Sox and their fans.
