That said, the Lakers side of the deal is too good to be true. They essentially get to trade one of the worst contracts in basketball (plus the standard THT and a future 2nd LOL) for three guys who are each more useful than Westbrook. I think the Lakers would do that deal in a millisecond. The Knicks would get to keep all of their young guys so that's great for the Knicks. I guess the question is whether Utah would actually trade DM for just picks and the ability to get out of Bojan's deal. Seems iffy to me. (Seeing how Lebron would handle Julius might be fun, by the way.) On edit- just realized Bojan is only owed one year. Now I'm really not sure what LA brings to the table in this deal. I sincerely believe Randle/Fournier/Rose are all tradeable. Why would Utah take on Westbrook rather than those 3? |

I've seen it with Grimes included as well. Hopefully that's not the case.

The Knicks will be expensive heading into the 2024-25 season, especially if they add Mitchell to the mix. Assuming Barrett receives a max contract or anywhere near it, the salaries of just the projected starting five of Brunson, Mitchell, Barrett, Randle and Robinson will add up to darn near the entire salary cap. The roster will be in danger of going into the tax. And paying the tax is fine and dandy … but any owner wants to be more than just mildly competitive if the bills are so expensive. |
