i have no clue lol. and don't look at realgm for raptor fans perspectives - that forum is filled with toxic teens.
siakam was playing all nba level last season until covid. in the bubble he was bad offensively and this season he's been bad offensively. why? could be a variety of reasons.
1. something has happened off court during covid that nobody is aware of
2. he is in his own head and putting a lot of pressure on himself
3. league has scouted him and he is struggling to adapt
4. other?
could be a combo of all those things. i'm really not sure to tell you the truth. his defense is still stellar and he's still making the right basketball play - it's just his iso offense has fallen off a cliff. teams are hedging alot and showing doubles and that's disrupting his post game and he hasn't been able to develop a counter. his suspension came b/c he wasn't getting any calls and then kept getting called for fouls on the other end so after fouling out he just stormed back to the locker room and the team disciplined him for that.
this year is just way too weird for the raptors. only team displaced from home. all games are basically road games as the fans that are in the building are cheering for the other team so far. first 7 of 9 on the road and now a west coast road trip. they've slept in their new beds only like 5 times since beginning of december. i think that is playing a huge factor so far.
pascal, norm and og have all been playing below their level from last season so that's on them. losing gasol + ibaka hurts as well as they were solid vet players. i mean that team was 2nd in the nba in record until covid stopped the season. even beat every team in the bubble except boston.
the plan for masai/webster was to preserve cap space in 21 for giannis or others but a lot of guys re-signed. and i also think they had an option of stealth tank this year knowing no fans and playing in tampa as the rest of the roster is filled with g-league guys and our center rotation is probably the worst in the league. this was inevitable i guess after losing kawhi + green + ibaka + gasol and only being able to draft late 1st or 2nd and picking up undrafted folks. i still think we can recover to a .500 or slightly better year but this is such an asterisk season, who knows? first time in like 8 years the team looks legit vulnerable. it's all good tho - got a chip and it took covid to prevent the last *real* nba champion from defending it's crown :)
