Is it me or does posada hit into alot of double plays in his career.

per gardner - he was given the steal sign but failed to steal. that would've kept us out of the double play and gave us the lead. he also misjudged the flyball in a center which cost a run too.
That was terrible. It was unlike him, though. Usually he's outstanding in the field.

He does, he's slow.
He's slow AND he hits the ball hard. That combination will lead to a lot of double plays. He's still a great hitter overall though.

it also seem like he guess alot of pitches to hit or to take.

I disagree there, he has one of the better batting eyes in the league. You rarely see catchers with his plate discipline.

Never understood the point in ever pinch hitting Posada. He's a horrible pinch hitter. I recall twice when making him pinch hit this season, one for Pena the other for Cervelli, and he struck out. Both, to say the least, have been doing well at hitting. So what's the point?

It's dumb to do that in my opinion, even if he's a good hitter. He sucks as a pinch hitter.

unfortunately we don't have a Ruben Sierra on the bench to do that for us... i've heard rumblings that the Yankees maybe interested in trading for Mark DeRosa from the tribe... he would be a nice utility player for us that can come in & do some pinch hitting as well, i just hope we aren't giving up Pena or Cervelli cuz i'd rather just stand pat if that's the case.

We'll also be getting Nady back in a few weeks which will mean we'll always have one good hitter on the bench- whether its Nady, Swisher, Gardner or Melky. Actually I really like Gardner as a pinch hitter because he can handle the bat so well- he brings a lot of versatility (i.e. you can bring him in to make contact and move someone over, take a walk and create some havoc on the basepaths, etc.). Problem is you also have to use him as a pinch runner.

Nady will have to do as our pinch hitter on the bench until a better option comes along... Gardner is more of a late inning defensive replacement & pinch runner, i have a hard time imagining him pinch hitting for anyone on this team other than possibly Jose Molina... he's been playing much better of late tho, him & Melky have really stepped up this year & made that hole in CF seem so much smaller than we originally thought it might be... good job by those 2.

That's exactly it- you answered your own question. Who exactly do the Yanks need to pinch hit for on any given night? Unless the backup catcher is in or there are injuries somewhere else in the lineup its pretty much no one.

HOLY MOLY - that might've been the best play i've ever seen from a pitcher. that might've been one of the greatest plays ever. WOW.

I dunno why they batted Swisher 2nd today. Anyway, the Yanks need to put some runs on the board right now with a man on and Tex and Arod coming up after this. Hopefully Swish can work a walk.

I remember Mariano made a crazy diving catch like that several years ago...

Sowers control is off now, and just in time, as 2 men are on base for Tex and then ARod.

And the Yankees blow bases loaded no outs with their 4-5-6 hitters at the plate!
