I am not sure if we can pick the rest of his contract up just for the sake for next year and if we can pay him more than the vet minimum to keep him
Although he is older, we like vets, and he can play the backup 3 and stretch 4, I thought he played good defense in stretches last year vs Durant in the play offs

Nope. I'd rather talk to Marion in the summer to make the Ny mavgets complete.

Knicks cant be picky. We dont have alot of $$$ to work with. Jackson at the minimum would be a steal. If he act up cut his ass. Same with Delonte West.

So do we...like...have to root for the Nets tonight?
Knicksfan: Hypocrite league that fines players after the game for flopping but in the game and with obvious flopping they call the fouls.

posters who can't tolerate dissenting opinion, be it pessimism or objectivity, usually don't have a strong argument of their own.

agreed..

I don't know, I am pretty tired of that type of posting. There is a basic, underlying assumption in TKF's posts that Melo is just out there shooting to chase points instead of trying to win a game. TKF, I'd like to see you justify it. Please go ahead. The originating post IMHO is not a dissenting opinion, in fact I think it's pretty much crap.

Perhaps he is not taking the best shots all the time, but every player has gone through stretches like that, Kobe, Wade, Melo, Jordan, LeBron, you name it. But Melo and team is coming off of a 13 game win streak where Melo was a primary reason amongst other for the wins and who was also shooting a blistering 60% while racking up the wins.... that's good reason to try some shots.

If all you are doing is raging on players with no other real justification, this is probably not the place for you. Please give it a rest.

well martin I respectfully dissagree... for the most part wade, jordan, lebron and to a lesser extent kobe have not really gone through stretches in their career where they take the kind of shots and point chase like carmelo.. first of all they shoot a much better percentage, so that really doesn't support the argument there.. but what I want to say is this..

you say I am raging on players with no real justification.. well lets look.. I don't rag on felton, chandler, amare, kidd, shumpert...etc.. none, and if I did martin, I am sure there would be no outcry about that.. but when it comes to carmelo the hero worship kicks in... I feel I am justified in my comments... 30+ shots to get 36 points is point chasing.. you ask for proof, I say watch the game.. look at when the knicks do score.. it usually comes off felton penetrating and a few quick passes for open looks...I am not fooled by scoring a few points martin the game is so much more than that for me as a fan.... if anything JR smith has been just as important during this streak.... and add in the play of felton as well..

carmelo is taking shots as if he literally the only one on the court.... I mean that... and honestly people can spin this into me not liking the knicks.. NO, I don't like carmelo.. the problem is, this is becoming a carmelo site, not a knick site... and I say that martin because it is ok to endlessly bash amare, to destroy felton, to get on chandler.. but lord forbid you talk about carmelo in a negative tone... I will say this, never have i seen such an unbalanced view from a fan base over a player.. seriously, even the bulls fans didn't seem to hold MJ in such infallible regards.. and he was the greatest ever... and the thing is... I honestly think carmelo could care less about the NY knicks... this guy cares about himself.the whole campaign to come to ny was about him not the knicks as a team.. but him....... I don't like it... and if that doesn't make me a fan, then I guess I can't be a fan of a guy like that martin.. yea, I will give it a rest... I though I have, I haven't posted in a while.. and honestly I hate wasting my time talking about the guy.. I will just leave it at that... if that is what you want.. it is your site.. i respect that..

Career numbers:

TS% eFG%
--------------------
Melo .545 .480
Kobe .555 .487
Wade .567 .503
Jordan .569 .509
Drexler .547 .495
RAllen .580 .530
Pierce .568 .499
Pippen .536 .504

There definitely a difference between the super elite like Jordan or the super shooters like Ray Allen, but what's your cut-off for point chasers? By all means Melo aint the most efficient guy. Kobe a points chaser? Pippen? Drexler? Melo most likely has the lower assist numbers, that's on him too.

For what it's worth, I agree with TKF. Maybe some of us have different expectations of our players - we want them to see them paly hard every single game. We don't like players that pout and put heir egos ahead of the success of the team. You need proof? - Look back at last season. I have watched quite a few games this season, wins losses, close ones - never in a single game I came away hinking Melo was imposing his will on the game and wouldn't let us lose. not once.

I also see this board becoming a Melo fansite. And maybe that's ok and that's the direction this franchise and it's fans are happy with. You guys are running a forum and you have to accommodate the popular opinion. I used to come here a lot. I have cut down will continue to cut down more. It's one thing to have arguments but its different when you have to "fight the system everyday" - feels like this board is rigged against people who don't like Melo. Maybe it is time for us to leave. Some have already left, some have been asked to leave and some will just drop off slowly over time. It is what it is. But yeah I am sad to see this turn of events.

TKF on Melo ::....he is a punk, a jerk, a self absorbed out of shape, self aggrandizing, unprofessional, volume chucking coach killing playoff loser!!

I hated the Melo trade at the time and wasn't a Melo fan. Since he has been here and especially since D'Antoni has left I have found the attacks on him to be relentless and have found myself defending him all the time. He has won me over as he has shown himself to be a true warrior and the Knicks have experienced more success with him then they had in almost two decades. I might be wrong but it seems that the guys that really don't like him hold his comment about playing harder under Woodson against him and I just don't see it. The guy can be brutally honest and sometimes gets himself into jams when he doesn't think that every sentence he says will be quoted and analyzed for years after he has said it. Personally I think it would be pretty hard to not get discouraged with going 18-24 with Mike D last year and that roster and you might get to the point where you know what your doing isn't going to work and maybe you lay back a bit. The year before D'Ant resigned a vet came out and said they stopped listening to D'Antoni and just played the way they knew that they would have a shot at winning in the playoffs against the Celtics. That says a lot about that situation. You can kill Melo because he isn't the most polished guy with the NY media but you can't kill him for his effort or the way the team is playing. Interesting that the day after he scores 36 and grabs 19 boards you are criticizing him and calling him a player that doesn't play hard every game. I don't know what some guys here want. If having the best regular season in a decade and half isn't enjoyable I don't think you will be happy for the next five years or so.

he too selfish not blocking out and letting others grab the boards. I say he had 12 inefficient boards with 2 questionable tap outs.

I'll admit I'm a big Melo fan, but I'm not the type of person to just write off another's opinion without thought.
You can hate on Melo for all I care it's none of my business, but if you're going to mention it I might say a few words myself, I don't think your hatred of Melo is really "justified".
He's working his ass off (not just on the court, but also eating right and getting into better shape), and is just now on one of his best streaks in his carreer.
So if you're only reasons are the D'Antoni saga and his FG% I just can't see it.

And you're over reacting about the "Melo love" on here. Not that long ago (think back before this streak) was he constantly being criticised and even when he had a good game people were pointing out his flaws instead of giving much thought on what he's done for the team. I sucked it up (and didn't leave), I'm pretty sure most people are able to do that.

Harden was gassed. McHale never took him out in the 2nd half. Same with Lin. McHale really is a horrible coach.

Denver/Dallas tied with 3.9. Brewer with a steal and layup. Can't believe D'Antoni couldn't find minutes for Brewer on a 24 win team.
