Tweet was deleted or there was problem with the URL: This is crazy. They tie rev split to amount of rev gained and won't show the players the numbers. So they expect the players to just take their word for it? That is crazy. Yea, this lockout is unavoidable. How did the previous CBA not put it in writing that they can audit the league to find out the truth? |

Rookie wrote:The short version. The two sides are stuck on revenue sharing. The players want a percentage (27%) of gross revenue. The league is countering that they are willing to discuss net revenue sharing. The players want the guarantee of gross revenue which is unrealistic and pretty much a non starter. Exactly. During the WNBA ALl-Star weekend the owners said the players just did not understand the basics of business and a few months later I understand why the owners said that. I also hate how negative the players union has gone. They are literally trying to paint the owners who have funed a league for 30 years that has never made a profit as greedy and exploitive. Two of the main reasons why the owners will not even consider gross is because They only own 42% of their own league so every team will have to share only that 42% and they are still adding expansions. They have also lost money every season for like 30 years. So as protections from having to lost more money the owners want to give the players net rev share and not gross. The basic explaination of net is the amount after deductions and expenses. This gives the owners protections from losing money. The players want gross which is before deductions and expenses. With gross if the WNBA popularity is a bubble they will now be having years of even larger money losses because of how much the salaries are increasing this CBA. WHen you hear the players explain it they are talking about the owners wanting to pay themselves and give the players whats left over when a simple google search on net vs gross will tell you it's just the deductions and expenses of the league. I am guessing this is why the owners made that statment on the players lack of basic business literacy. If the league did not have to sell a majority of itself to survive 30 years of losses I could understand giving the players gross but if I was in the owners situation I would be doing the same. The players don't even like the player responsible for the popularity and have done everything in their power to kill her hype. So no way would I trust them to keep the growth of the WNBA going. They been actively trying to kill it for 2 years. The WNBPA is also the most chilish union I have ever seen. The amount of unprofessional things they have done in the short time I been paying attention to them is staggering. |
