crazymdups is right...

problem is it is unlikely that curry would take less, as it's only happened once (according kby) with sean kemp.

also, any buyout would have to happen after he exercises his option in the early summer, which he is bound to do.

just thinking here, but if we do need that extra $1.7 mil for a max FA, it could be the Knicks negotiate a deal with Eddy for that much less, if he knows he can get that on the open market.

Quesstion there is where there a taker for Curry at $1.7 mil now.

I think that's possible...

Forum Po Po and #33 for a reason...

Knicks should be able to buy out Eddy Curry for his Contract value- veterans minimum. So the Knicks could save the amount of the veterans minimum - the cap hold amount by buying Curry out. I think this only comes out to about $900,000 or so.

Washington is actually looking at cap room next summer and they are clearly rebuilding. why would they do this trade?

you act like it's so simple to find a taker for jeffries.

They do it to get Jordan Hill. And we could throw in a few million $

ABSOLUTE best case scenario...we sign two awesome free agents and make the playoffs next season.

the picks aren't really that great and when Curry comes off the books our promising playoff Knicks sign an awesome pg or center or whatever we need to supplement the 2 guys we get from LBJ, Wade, Bosh, Amare, etc.

and the 2012 pick is a wack pick too

and Jordan Hill never develops into anything

then this is totally a great trade for us....

within the next 5 seasons we win a championship that makes up for any great young players (including Hill) that we gave up. Even if the draft picks and Hill develop into awesome players it'll be worth it if this gamble pays off.

One day the Celtic may regret trading Al Jefferson away but I'll take the championship.

dude, the Celtics got back Kevin Garnett in that deal... huge difference to a broken down Tracy McGrady coming off microfracture surgery.

not THAT big of a difference..theoretically we're trading blablabla for a broken down Tracy McGrady and the opportunity to sign big FA XYZ this offseason. so it's really trading a promising young player (Hill..i think) and draft picks for a big name star who we sign with the extra $9 M cap space from Jefferies.

how is it not THAT big of a difference??? KG was nowhere near a broken down ex-Allstar when the Celtics traded for him like T-Mac is... he was the main cog in their championship run dude! they did not trade Al Jefferson so they could sign a FA, they traded him so they could get Kevin Garnett.

it's a gamble, but one has to believe it's an educated gamble.

i think donnie is a little more aware of what the lay of the land in the NBA is than you are. i'm sorry.

the ability to offer two max contracts is a game changer. it means they're not asking lebron to rebuild the knicks - they're saying "bron, pick a partner and come to new york and rule the league."

that is a far different proposition. and, yes, it's worth jettisoning jordan hill for.

i don't think Jordan Hill is untouchable... i just think trading a #8 lottery selection just to dump Fishlips contract is assinine... i would have felt the same way had we taken anyone else in the draft... Jordan Hill wasn't even my #1 target in this draft, it was Derozan... unlike most of you, i'm not going to call Jordan Hill a busted pick before i ever get to see him prove himself on the NBA hardwood the way Gallo & Hill have been played around here for the past couple years.

if the rumors about the Kings last year offering to take Fishlips off our hands if we included Nate in exchange for Kenny Thomas were true & DW passed up on it, he goes & pulls this crap this year, i'm seriously going to be a Donnie Walsh hater... it'll be like the return of islesfan.
