i've never seen it implemented on another forum but i have seen
the option available on blogging sites like Xanga.com when
accessing a photo album.

or maybe how they do it on Photobucket.com where u have the
option to reduce the image file to a certain size during upload?

a feature like that would prevent our written posts from getting dragged out over the entire length of the offending post with the huge pictures like this, which can get quite annoying.
