Wait a damn minute!!! The Dems are the ones trying to actually help the poor and middle class!!! Almost every policy they push the most is better for the average joe. There were lots more jobs and development programs that Obama tried to pass. Tell me what did the Republicans do for the people over the last 8 years!!! They even tried to block minimum wage increases. This trope about Hillary is way overstated. In any event the Progressive Wing will have a much bigger influence from now on.

I am not defending Republicans, I have no interest.

But if you want to claim Dems have helped the middle class show me some data. I have provided multiple links to federal reserve data that showed nothing Dems have done have resulted in wage growth for the middle class. NOTHING. If you want I can post them again. I have also provided data that shows Arkud's precious trickle down is exactly horse****. Ever since the deregulation of banks signed into law by Clinton all the "growth" in the economy has gone to the top, and real wages for middle income Americans have gone down not up.

I dislike Obama a great deal BUT he has made some good points the past 2 days. No matter what side you are on its time to unite and try to make this country strong again. I'm not saying you have to like Trump but lets give him a chance at least. When obame was elected then re-elected I was very pissed but I had to accept it and try and make the most of it which is what the anti-trump should at least consider

Oh and just to keep tabs on this but there has been a sharp increase in White Supremacist vandalism and verbal attacks. We said it before but the Racists were only emboldened by Trump's winning the election. Now we can join the rest of the world in having nasty White Supremacist Groups feeling this is their time to act up.

Claims of hate crimes possibly linked to Trump's election reported across the US

Social media was rife with accounts of sometimes violent incidents of hate crimes targeted at Muslims, Latinos and African Americans after the election

There was a spate of claims of hate crimes in the US on Thursday made on social media and to police, in which the alleged victims said abusers had in some way cited Donald Trump’s victory in the US presidential election.

Social media was rife with accounts of sometimes violent incidents of hate targeted at Muslims, Latinos and African Americans.

Muslim students in campuses across the country reported incidents of hate. At San Diego State University, a Muslim woman who was wearing a hijab told campus police that two men pulled up next to her and jumped out of a car, then made comments about Muslims and Trump before robbing her of her purse, backpack and car keys. The woman could then not locate her car.

Mark Potok, a senior fellow at the Southern Poverty Law Center who monitors hate in extremism, said that he’s seen a spike in hate crimes including attacks on women wearing hijabs and racist graffiti – and that suicide prevention hotlines were receiving high numbers of calls.

“I think this is absolutely clearly a result of Trump’s election,” Potok told the Guardian. “Donald Trump has ripped the lid off Pandora’s box.”

Twitter also painted a picture of divided high schools across the country as students shared incidents that ranged from African Americans being called cotton pickers to Latinos being told to leave the country. Last week, one principal at Southern Lehigh high school in Pennsylvania held a special assembly after reports of students yelling homophobic slurs, calling black students cotton pickers and using Hitler salutes.

Trans Lifeline, a national hotline for transgender people in crisis, told the Guardian it saw its normal call volume triple on Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. According to the Tennessean, a transgender woman reported on Friday that her truck was set on fire in her driveway, and the word “Trump” had been spray-painted on its scorched back.

Potok compared the spike in hate crimes to the one felt in the UK following Brexit. Britain’s most senior police officer told a court hearing in September that Britain had experienced a “horrible spike” in hate crimes after it voted to leave the EU.

Trump’s campaign has also emboldened white supremacist groups. A Ku Klux Klan newspaper endorsed Trump, and the former KKK grand wizard David Duke was one of the first people to congratulate Trump on Twitter following his victory. Potok said that Klan members have been distributing literature in Alabama since Trump’s victory, and one local Klan group is organizing a celebratory rally.

Hate crimes against Muslims in particular have risen significantly over the past year. Georgetown’s Bridge Initiative, a group that studies Islamophobia, found that 2015 saw the most incidents of hate crime in any year against Muslims since 9/11.

Jordan Denari Duffner, a research fellow at The Bridge Initiative, warned that it was difficult to draw precise causation between Trump’s campaign and spikes in hate crimes.

“It’s been hard up until now to say that Trump is the sole reason for this,” she said. “What will be interesting is how often racist attacks are accompanied by explicit support for Donald Trump.”

In his victory speech early on Wednesday, Trump said he wanted to heal divisions in the country and be a president for “all Americans”.

•This article was updated after a University of Louisiana student who told police she was attacked by two men acknowledged to police that she fabricated the story. This section of the story was removed

Trump is the proverbial "Dog that caught the car". I bet he's starting to feel the weight of the responsibility he has now. No one is ever fully ready to be President but NO ONE has ever been less ready than Trump.

well there is one thing that *could* benefit me personally...

Masai Ujiri responded to the United States' election results in which Donald Trump is the president-elect.

"I want to thank Donald Trump for making Toronto an unbelievable destination," said Ujiri.

"This country (Canada) has an obligation to show the world how peaceful and friendly we are," Ujiri continued.

The Raptors have re-signed both Kyle Lowry and DeMar DeRozan in free agency in recent seasons and also signed DeMarre Carroll from the Atlanta Hawks in 2015.

Ujiri became general manager of the Raptors in 2013 after several seasons with the Denver Nuggets.

Not to mention that Trump got help from Putin and FBI Comey with his damned letter to Congress. Voter Suppression from Republican Lawmakers. This was an unreal election that makes a mockery of our country.

Was going to post this from home tonight, you beat me to it. It really shows how this was more of a election that Clinton lost than one Trump won. Not trying to take anything away from him. He delivered what he promised and his campaign managed this much better on fewer resources against noy one but two establishments

That chart is a little deceiving in that you're comparing Clinton to a fairly popular Obama and Trump to a pretty unlikable Romney (yet another republican candidate even people in his own party didn't like). So the bar was significantly lower for Trump to hurdle Romney.

But I agree with your premise, Romney got 60.9 million votes compared to 59.8 million for Trump, pretty much a wash. However 65.9 million for Obama versus 60.1 million for Clinton is a staggering drop off. One thing I said on this thread, Trump couldn't win this election, but Clinton could lose it and obviously that's what happened.

Think about it this way - she ran for the same platform, it was widely touted as Obama's third term. Can we just acknowledge that she was a horrible candidate with so much personal baggage that she couldn't win even when the bar was lowered from what you called an unlikable candidate in Romney. Trump got less votes than Romney - so he was even less likeable. The problem here is obvious and it's Hillary.

Preaching to the choir, I voted for Bernie in the primary.

You didn't study Socialism, you studied propaganda. There is a difference. Albert fukking Einstein defended socialism and I'll take his IQ and understanding of the world over yours. Other questions?

You are right about Einstein - he was the fan of Socialism as economy-political system (and by the way one cannot be separated from another).
But even he and even at a time when Socialism was not yet committed the atrocities for all world to see was asking the very questions which lead to this philosophy undoing.

I am convinced there is only one way to eliminate these grave evils, namely through the establishment of a socialist economy, accompanied by an educational system which would be oriented toward social goals. In such an economy, the means of production are owned by society itself and are utilized in a planned fashion. A planned economy, which adjusts production to the needs of the community, would distribute the work to be done among all those able to work and would guarantee a livelihood to every man, woman, and child. The education of the individual, in addition to promoting his own innate abilities, would attempt to develop in him a sense of responsibility for his fellow men in place of the glorification of power and success in our present society.

Nevertheless, it is necessary to remember that a planned economy is not yet socialism. A planned economy as such may be accompanied by the complete enslavement of the individual. The achievement of socialism requires the solution of some extremely difficult socio-political problems: how is it possible, in view of the far-reaching centralization of political and economic power, to prevent bureaucracy from becoming all-powerful and overweening? How can the rights of the individual be protected and therewith a democratic counterweight to the power of bureaucracy be assured?

trump has never released his taxes and now his private company will be run in a "blind trust" by his children lol.

i thought the anger and disappointment would dissipate by now...but it hasn't.

Not to mention that Trump got help from Putin and FBI Comey with his damned letter to Congress. Voter Suppression from Republican Lawmakers. This was an unreal election that makes a mockery of our country.
Throw in wikileaks and Trump encouraging criminal activity...as long as he benefits from it.

Encourage?..Putin all but admitted collusion today by saying he was in contact with Trump's team during the campaign..Keep in mind the Donna Brazile's material was hacked during the General election..Brazile joined Hillary late in the General..Putin is mocking us tho..He is telling u what he was doing..But no one cares..

meloshouldgo wrote:The problem with the democratic party is simple. Most people who can read and write have figured out that stock market highs and economic growth doesn't mean better standard of living for them. While the banks are raking in profits the working class is still mired in the recession and trying to figure out WTF happened to their party. If this party cant be honest about its coziness with big banks it will continue to lose support.
Hillary was the role model for everything wrong with this party now. Bring back the left wing or die.

Wait a damn minute!!! The Dems are the ones trying to actually help the poor and middle class!!! Almost every policy they push the most is better for the average joe. The only reason we didn't see even more progress and an even better economy was the stall and block tactics of the Republicans! We lost Billions with the Republicans Debt Ceiling stunts. The sequester cost thousands of jobs. Not doing any kind of infrastructure projects.

What you want to trickle down to you? Cash or golden coins?
The only think which trickles down is an opportunity.
If some cannot seize it its their personal problem.
In socialist countries the only thing which trickles is the food stamps and line to buy necessities.
The rest goes to those who are "more equal" the very right leaders of the working people.

I don't want anything to trickle down to me, which is why I call it horse****. Read my signature again.

Weren't you the one who advised me not to bother explaining the difference between socialism and communism to him? lol!

Communism was not build anywhere but in Israel Kibbutz settlements which are free to join and leave.
Communism is actually socialism minus centralized bureaucracy.
As Israel experiment shows about %2 of population can actually enjoy this type of society.
It is possible that this percentage will increase in the future and human race will improve spiritually.
I am fine with Communism but the level of wealth that can be achieved in this type of society is only enough fro small group of population.
We as civilization need to collect much more wealth to make this possible and of course the number of people on Earth will need to be much lover.
This is start happening zo so who knows, another 300-400 years and communism can be possible for all people.

Arkud - I'll give you this, your level of tunnel vision is probably museum worthy. You are not stupid, but you are severely limited in your scope and unable or unwilling to comprehend anything that doesn't fit your own world view. Anyone who can cherry pick a line out of Einstein explaining "Why socialism" to spin it into "Why not socialism", deserves respect. Take a day off and stay away from my posts, I'll do the same with yours.
