I think moving forward Thibs needs to slow this down, make it a physical half court game and stick the 9 guys. Grind every possession and let our size wear them down while relying on Bruson/KAT as the best scorers on the floor for both teams.

We are continually able to break down their defense when we are patient. Sometimes it's moving the ball. Sometimes it's just KAT/Mikal/Brunson pounding the ball for 15 seconds until Indy panics and does something stupid.

I hate the phucking Pacers... PLS can we win tomorrow?

It's really energy and low mistake basketball we need from those guys (Shamet/Wright). Our other players have been so up/down with tons of sketch plays and blown assignments. Even with less talent just getting a few vets in to up the ball pressure, move the ball and bingo something positive happens.

seems against us that type of vet always kills us for a game or two. Time for our seldom used vet to beat out opponents now.

We need a pest like TJ on our bench.

This is the exact reason why we've been so frustrating all year and NEVER really clicked defensively.

Two best players are 1) crappy defenders and 2) don't lift each other offensively (I think Kat definitely helps JB but not other way)

And yet those 2 can help you beat all but like 5 teams in the league fairly solidly. And they can almost match up with those 5 teams but generally both Brunson or KAT have to really shine offensively and, unfortunately, both can be also fairly predictably defended against but you have to have a ton of big wing personnel to match up.

I'm a Thibs supporter, but he has been pissing me off with his coaching. How many times have I said that if Coach Spo were coaching this team Delon Wright, Precious, and Shamet would be playing consistently. They are the exact type of vets that he always seems to maximize, but we have them wasting away on the bench for no reason. In fact, I would even consider astarting Delon Wright next to Brunson to form a Iverson/Eric Snow type of backcourt that allows Brunson to just focus on scoring while Delon does the dirty work. As someone in this thread stated earlier, having Mitch out there disrupts their ability to run 5 out because of rebounding concerns. Then having Deuce, Shamet, and Delon out there helps to run them off the three point line. We also should be separating KAT and Brunson a bit by running something like:

Mitch
OG
Mikal
Hart
JB

And then:
Precious or Huk
KAT
Delon
Shamet
Deuce

I really do think we could be up 2-1 or even 3-0 if we had been using this rotation since the start.

NYStateOfMind wrote:The statement was true at that point of the game, and I think he was -11 at that point, as most Knicks traditional starters were. Why do they all have to wait until the 4th quarter to play better? Stop getting in 20-point holes and kill the opponent; forget the refs and always hustle back on D and stop bailing out Indy with late shot-clock lazy fouls. Continue using Wright over Cam and ride good stretches a few minutes longer, regardless of who is on the bench. KAL and JB have not played well, but JB is still clutch late. KAL missed most shots in the first quarter, usually 1st three quarters. JB has 17 assists & 13 TOs, and is 7-23 from 3s for 30%. How we won this game with 13 team assists is unbelievable.

Holy cow didn’t even realize both of those sentences. Knicks had 13 assists with 15 TO’s last night.

And not for nothing but Brunson (amongst others) probably gave game 1 away with some TO’s.

I truly love Brunson, but the bold is absolutely true. As is the fact that he insists on bringing up with pressure from Pacers' best defenders

All of these games are ultra tight. We have to be mindful that one or two bad possessions from being stubborn with the ball (and a bad possession, rushed shot) is the difference between up by two or down by two super late in the game

The fact that Brunson can bring it up with that pressure, does not mean that he should bring it up. it's hurting the team. He should be playing off ball more. We should be passing it up, using other players etc. Jesus -- Joker brings it up for Denver on occasion and it's not because they don't have other players who can dribble.

And it's not just turnovers. More generally consider the mismatches. Pacers best defenders are on Jalen, and he's doing an excellent job under those circumstances. BUT BUT BUT that doesn't mean it's the smart strategy. The pacers have no answer for KAT. We should be feeding him a lot. KAT gets Miles or Siakam in foul trouble and that's a HUGE advantage for us because their subs lack all form of offense. On the other hand, Pacers are loaded at the wing for defense. Neismith, Nembhard, Sheppard, and then you have TJ and Mathurin (sp?) the last of which is in a rut but is otherwise talented.

The only defense they have for KAT is trying to get him in foul trouble (which he is prone to do). KAT is his own worst enemy in that regard. The cure IMO is play double bigs. Slow the pace by pounding the boards and forcing the Pacers to team rebound or risk lots of offensive rebounds. Have Mitch take the tougher defensive assignment (which frankly might be Pascal). Alleviate KAT from thinking he needs to anchor the defense -- that's Mitch's role

I hate the Pacers with a vengeance, and want to put my hands around Reggie's and Tyrese's necks myself

That said, they have done a remarkable job with some players who looked headed in the wrong direction. Nesmith is exhibit A. He was an absolute dud with the Celtics. Supposedly best shooter in his draft but once he arrived in NBA he couldn't throw it in the ocean. Pacer got him and made him earn minutes with D. I think that gave him an identity and relieved some pressure/anxiety he was feeling about shooting and now the guy can really shoot it too

If Nesmith is out that will be a big help.

Nembhard and Sheppard were both finds too and given time to find their footing. One of those guys will be tasked with Brunson if Nesmith is out, but they're not the same caliber IMO

I hope so, but I think he's another year away. This year was for him to get used to the speed of the game. I think the next year is for skill refinement.

I usually hate players being MIC'ed up, but hearing Mitch was interesting. Didn't know he was so vocal on defense.

It was De'Andre Jordan's mentorship (and Marcus Camby's tutelage) back in 2019 that taught him that. That is also why I was hoping we would get to see Huk play because I want all of that knowledge to get passed onto him next.
