Letting Go

joec32033 wrote:I love Felton. Chandler and him and Shump are my favorite Knicks. In that order. That being said, bottom line, when Felton presses and tries to play up to his competition, he plays bad. He tried to play up to Deron, Kyrie, and tried to demolish Lin instead of playing his game. When he presses to do well, he plays poorly.

joec - outstanding observation. Ray also struggles with maintaining positive body language. After missed shots, he allows his frustrations to boil to the surface. Instead of focusing on other aspects of the game he takes the approach of attempting to shoot his way back.

This is where watching Jason Kidd go 2-11 and still impact a game in positive ways will be instructive to Felton. Like Clyde, Kidds expression never changes. The quintessential
professional.

While healing, Felton can experience the peaks and valleys, and follow his running buddies, from a less possessive angle.

You Had Me At Metrics

Last season we 10th in fg%, 43.7%; 23rd in 3fg%, 35.9%; and 13th in eFG%, 48.5%. This year we're 22nd in fg%, 45.5%; 23rd in 3fg%, 36.7%; and 25th in eFG%, 50.4%.

I can't remember us getting a defensive stop when we need it, unless you want to Telfair stepping out of bounds with one second left in the game the other night.

This line is hereby nominated as the best line if the week:

Pretty sure that turnover by Telfair on the sideline was due to Kidd deflecting his intended set play pass to Gortat forcing Telfair to improvise.

That's what you guys want to hang your hats on? A guy playing on his 6th team in 8 seasons made a bad play for a team on pace to win 31 games this season?
Now the joy of my world is in Zion How beautiful if nothing more Than to wait at Zion's door I've never been in love like this before Now let me pray to keep you from The perils that will surely come

Imagine how much better the Knicks record would be with Kyrie, Chris or Jeremy. Felton's shot selection as worse than the impulsive Kobe. His poor decision making rivals that of Toney Douglas of 2011. His defense makes a sieve look like a block of concrete.

"Many defensive stinkers?" Really?

How can we manage to be recognized as a much-improved defensive team that protects the ball better than most teams in the NBA?

Why are the Knicks coaches running frequent laps for 12 total turnovers or less?

Who knew the Knicks could go 21-8 playing four on five?

WE ARE NOT A BETTER DEFENSIVE TEAM THAN LAST YEAR!!!

GEEEZ

put the pom poms away.

Felton is good at not turning the ball over, I will give you that. However, its hard to turn the ball over when you are not passing it (and shooting 20 shots a game).

Vcyoung had a good observation. Felton plays really badly when he is trying to show off. That is sad because I would imagine that he will try to show off in the playoffs.

I miss the sugar ray felton who played at UNC where (college) players actually listen to coaches.

MKS - don't you find it the least bit ironic that on a "Pure Knicks Love" site, with a team owning one of the best records in the NBA, you are screaming "put the Pom poms away"?

Rather than nitpicks flaws, if I decide to cheer too loud, please excuse my extremely annoying famdom that celebrates each and every starter. It IS a team sport. If a standing ovation is not your cup of tea, please excuse my blocking your view. It's kinda fun to be a Knicks fan these days.

Game winning shots that drop while the backboard light is lit make me smile.

So sue me.

It feels like when he gets torched you know he's going to run to the other end and hoist up a shot no matter what.

Do we have a player who, despite all his flaws, brings intensity and toughness every night?

Do we have a player who fights, never backs down and plays hard - no matter what?

Yes we do.

Raymond Felton.

Yeah, you're right. No one else on the team is even trying.

Bootleg Alert (with a sincere apology tomholfresh)

I go back and forth with you guys arguing about the game and the team...I'm just amazed that many of you have no clue what Felton means to this team...I do understand he does take some god awful shots at times...He maybe needs to cut 5 to 7 shots out of his repertoire... But did you guys miss all of last season???..Do you guys not understand what stability he brings to the lineup and other player games...Do you not know what he means to JKidd's game, Chandler's game and even Melo to some extent...The defensive pressure he brings...20-8 with him in the line up is a coincidence...Amazing..I'm most concern about Amare and how he fits without Felton..

Raymond Felton is a significant part of our crazy, imperfect equation. Statistics do not measure his value on the court. Glue players are never pretty.

The difference without him is subtle. There is less sweet dripped on the floor.

Mike Woodson must monitor minutes by the minute.

We do need a starting caliber PG active besides Kidd. He's not an above average defender, despite what you might think. I'm not sure he's vital to KIdd's game. Throwing Alley oops to CHandler is nice and I know it has alot of flair and sparkle but he has pretty bad court vision and descion making capabilites in general. I think 20-8 is more due to Melo and Kidd and probably JR than Felton. Nobody maligns Felton's effort and the fact we need a starting PG. Doesn't mean he's a good one at this point of the season.

It's funny, when I've been saying the same exact thing for the whole season I was called a hater and told that I should stop looking at the box score.

When did I say that? That's certainly his biggest thing going with CHandler but I never said it was his biggest contribution to the team.
