People have this mistaken idea that you can't win big with an offense that takes a lot of 3's, but if you do it right you can. The more you do it the better you get as a team. This is what happened with MDA's teams that got to the WCF's. You perfect the spacing and passing and you end up with shots that are open and in rhythm. The only thing that was missing from MDA's teams was a defensive anchor like we have in Tyson. He had perimeter defenders in Raja and Marion, but no one was at home in the paint. Now we have both areas covered and it makes a huge difference.

I can't wait to see this team down the line when we work everyone in and get even more chemistry. I felt strong about this team and after seeing them against a legit defense, I like how they look even more. The lesson learned is don't go into a season without PG's and Glen definitely learned how important it is to have PG's.

Its a new era. The previous guy was 121-167 in the regular season here and his teams had a tendency to come out of training camp and put themselves in a hole pretty quick. I think Grunwald knows what he is doing and he and Woodson share a view of what a team needs to win in the nba. I am glad the Knicks are on the right track.

I am happy with the win last night, in particular that the team played well together. The veteran presence made itself be known and the minutes were reasonable or even low, so they should be fresh all year if we can keep spreading the minutes out. That said, taking a lot of 3's is not the way to get things done over the long hall. I just hope when we have those frequent "Can't buy a 3pt shot" games, we take it inside, as we have two great, yes great, centers on this team. I'll take the 3's but think relying too much on it can stunt us down the road. Remember Miami in the playoffs last year? They closed in on our 3pt shooters big time. They didn't do that last night - Not an excuse, just saying we need to take fewer 3's.

I'm really not trying to anger you or anythingbutbreally, if you like Lin as much as you are showing, you hate Knicks management and like the up and coming Rockets, which I do agree that now with Harden have a very interesting young group, why don't you start fully rooting for them and leave the Knicks behind?

They didn't close out on us because we had dribble penetration. ANd when they Left TYson he dunked it on them. When they stayed home somone was open. Dribble Penetration is now and always has been the key for us.

Nice win, always love o beat the Heat. But still too many threes. Hopefully there will be more structure to our offense now that we have multiple PGs, I liked Prigs and Kidd is just a floor general par excellence. They can make the game easier. But Melo launching threes is not a sustainable offense, hope he starts playing inside out. He did have a great game today. Loved to see Rasheed back, one of my all time favorite players is now a Knick! Felton looked good, but needs to tone it down a notch seemed a little helter skelter at times. But with all this frontcourt size we basically out muscled the Heat which felt soo good.

It was great. The 3s were mostly quality shots too. Penetration, ball movement to the open man. Stopped easy penetration for the most part.

Last year it was pass around the perimeter , no Knicks in position near the paint and jack up a contested 3. Long rebound and transition bucket for the other team.

We shot 50% from the 3. WE took 16 more 3's than Miami and about 15 more FG's also.

That's MDA's style! We took 30 MORE shots than Miami!

Im not bitching cuz we freaking blew them out of the City last nite!

If Woody wants to take the best from MDA and Larry Im fine with that!

These 3 balls were differnt. They were from defenders coming over to help on the interior. Truly what the defense was giving us.

Exactly....And thats what you call a coach without an ego who is not married to one-way of playing. For as much as we knocked MDA for his lack of detailed attention on the defensive end, and not catering his O to the personnel, he usually did a good job of spacing the floor. Obviously, Woodson has incorporated that to some extent. Nothing wrong with incorporating the best elements from an offensive guru aswell as taking from a defensive mastermind in Brown and mixing all together.

My only concern is, if you really want to be an elite defensive team, you cant be too reliant on the 3-ball, especially on an off night. Those long rebounds will kill your transition D.

Tired of MDA this and that. Can we talk about Lin since it's only relatively recent that he left the team.

Check out the gift thread. Some seem to be pretty sensitive when it comes to talk of the Rockets point guard.

The Heat are front runners. If you put up a legit fight and make it hard on them you have a chance. If you relax even for a minute they'll run over you. Trust me they weren't just letting the Knicks beat them. The Knicks D was legit. Did you see our PG's fighting over picks and blowing up all their offensive attacks? They wanted to do what they do to everyone, but our entire team defended hard and made them take shots they didn't want to take.

No we won't beat the Heat by double digits every time but this was a legit win. Rarely does any team come into the Garden and not try hard to win. They all love the stage.

the heat don't respect us, the seemed somewhere else last night..... knicks won.. yea.. but hey, they beat boston first game of the season last year too...

Knicks blew a huge lead and just snuck by vs. Boston last year. NY never really let Miami get too close. I was excited for this team last year too, always am - even when my head tells me otherwise, but you MUST have seen a difference between the Boston Christmas game and last night. There's obviously tweaking to be done, but we won this game soundly over the defending champs, with the keys to the win being defense and ball movement from smart players and proven winners. How is that not refreshing? Couldn't have asked for a better opening night.

tkf, I know this is not the team you would have put together, but tell me you at least enjoyed last nights win.

I actually watched more of the rockets game vs the hawks... knicks are still boring to watch.. sorry.... one win vs the heat is no longer the standard.. sustained winning is what we should be looking for.. I want to see us come out and wax the sixers... playing a sloppy game vs the sixers will be taking 10 steps backwards.. we got a bit fortunate that other guys hit shots. but watching carmelo shoot 10-28 was not fun..

They didn't respect us last year as well and still seemed to always beat us handily. So whats the point?
