3 fouls in the 2nd quarter and he stays in?

That's not that big of a deal for players like Kobe that have earned the right to stay in. It's early on in the season and a competitive game. The Lakers are trying to make up for early losses, so in this case I don't think it's that crazy. Kobe knows his team needs him to run the offense without Nash and Blake. He's basically playing the Melo role from last year.

He waved off his coach when he wanted him to come out with 2 fouls early in the second quarter. Kobe got really hot but also got his third foul. D'Antoni comes in with a rep as a non authoritarian/players coach and he is coaching the ultimate alpha dog. Game 1 and this happens. It may not be something to panic about but if Kobe is the guy runnning things how do you run that great Nash offense?

You really think that's a problem? You have 2 players that can run the offense and that's a problem? Even Kobe won't want to play 48 mins a night running every possession. Don't be ridiculous. Besides it only helps Nash to not have to carry the offense major minutes. It's a win win, not a negative.

Get out of the way and let these guys play. Probably a better strategy then forcing the Princeton on them. Leitch said a fan could coach the Lake show to 50+ wins. Will see how this goes. Lets go!

Pretty much. With that said, MDA is a somewhat curious hire because the last thing this talented team needs is more offense. They need guy who can command respect from Kobe and get this team to play exceptional defense. We shall see...

You're ignoring some important facts here. The Lakers ownership WANTS SHOWTIME!!! That's why they brought in MDA. They don't want a boring product. They want to win, but also be highly entertaining. LA isn't NY. They don't want grind it out BB. This is not to say they don't want to play any D, but when it comes to offense they want the best offensive team in the NBA or to at least try. If you have this much offensive talent and not a lot of defensive talent sometimes it makes sense to go with your strength and enhance it. I'm not saying this is the best plan, but it's what the Lakers are doing.

I think the ownership is influx with Jim Buss taking over. I know that I read that they wanted to fire Brown early because their schedule got easier and they didn't want to justify a firing when he was having some success. However, getting back to Jim Buss, apparently there was a conflict between Phil and Jim. Apparently Phil wanted too muc power/control. I also heard from someplace ( may have just been a buddy speculating) that the Lakers were concerned about Nash and wanted him to be successful so that was why they hired Skirt D'Antoni.

He was telling that to the PG Morris who he wanted to pick up the pace. It wasn't just in general to the whole team. Unless you're diagramming plays and going for detail on a specific point most coaches make cliche statements like that. "We need More energy" type exhortations.

It's coming. Especially if he has big games as the Garden. I think we can expect it for sure!

There you see MDA actually going over strategy. Lakers actually digging in on D to close the game.

The strategy looks awful!

Gonna be fun watching him crash and burn along with the lakers.

WOOO man the Nets played that almost perfectly on that last possession. Lakers lucky to get to the FT line after all of that.

Yeah right Even you don't believe that. This team is only going to get better from here. When they get Nash and Blake back you're talking about a totally different team. Remember how key PG's are, just look at the Knicks this year.

The Nets took a lead of 57-56 into the second half, could only score 33 second half points, and lost the game during the 4th quarter by the score of 95-90. Couldn't perform under pressure during the closing moments of a road game.

Kobe Bryant, damn, one of the greatest of all-time. His greatness has lasted longer than some of the all-time greats. 34 years of age during his 17th NBA season. Jordan himself only lasted 15 NBA seasons. I'm not sure I'll ever respect/fear another player such as MJ23, but Kobe Bryant is still creating quite the legacy for himself. Just an all-time great. Jordan was (and is still) Jordan, but Bryant has been the closest thing I've seen to Jordan, since Jordan himself.

Kobe is 5th all time in scoring. Jordan is 3rd. I don't think Kobe will retire before passing Jordan. What Jordan did was much more impressive (scoring wise) because he only played 15 seasons when compared to 17 out of Kobe. Kobe has averaged 1,842.75 points per season (heading into this season). Kobe is 8,639 points away from passing Kareem Abdul-Jabbar as the NBA's all-time leading scorer. I think he gets it done too. Kareem has played 389 more games than Bryant. If Kove can continue his average of 1,842 points per season, he'll pass Kareem in 4.6 seasons from today. Kobe is currently 34 years of age. I think he's going to pull it off. If Kobe can play until he's 38-39? It's going down to the wire.

I don't know if you can say I hated Jordan, but I feared him like none other. Respect him like none other now that it's all said and done with. My older brother never once called Jordan by his name. #23 is how I knew Jordan during my childhood years. I've never liked the Lakers franchise, but I've always enjoyed Kobe. The closest thing since Jordan since MJ23 himself. I hope he passes Kareem.

I don't know why everyone is so afraid of putting Kobe and Michael in the same sentence. Kobe has earned his stripes and then some. What else does Kobe have to do? He is a freaking Hall of Fame player already and he's still playing.

Kobe has already risen to MJ's level. You can argue stats and whatever else you want but it is going to be a sad day when KB24 retires. First MJ retires, now KB is set to retire. Time flies.

Enjoy it while you can. You won't see another player like MJ/KB in quite some time.

WHILE i DOn't agree that kobe is on MJ's level, I mean jordan was more efficient, and better defender... and you have to count in efficiency, I mean for a guard to consistently be that efficient like jordan, to shoot over 50% is amazing..

But with that said, I think Kobe is one of the best of this current crop of players, lets say the past 10-15 years.. I agree, you won't see another like kobe for some time, the guy is a fierce competitor and a winner....

Exactly I've seen Jordan take over and win virtually every game. I mean he shot 50% for his career!. Kobe is more like 50/50. He shot the Lakers out of way more games than Jordan ever did. Kobe is the closest player to the greatness of Michael Jordan
