From MDA on NOT calling a timeout to set a last play:
D’Antoni said he didn’t call timeout before the winning play, and left it up to Stoudemire and Anthony to work through it. He thought the Knicks’ advantage was to play through Randolph’s three-point play and not let the Grizzlies set up or make defensive substitutions.

“That’s too much stuff,” D’Antoni said. “We’ve got guys that know how to play, and when we call timeout to put the ball in Melo’s hands, it’s like ‘Duh.’

“That’s where it’s going to go. We knew it, and we got it done.”

The Grizz are a really deep good tough team. Boston is NUTS for not keeping Toney Allen around

Seriously, Toney D has been pretty incredible. It's like all he needed was some real floor time to shine and with Felton gone and Billups hurt he's showing what he can do for a team.

I was thinking last night when they let the lead disappear that I hate that crap, even after they won. How you have to maintain control and not let a team you're putting away get back in the game, BUT...

The beauty of sports is that a win is a WIN. It doesn't matter how big or small the gap is between the scores, if the team dominated the whole OR came back from a 20+ point deficit, if it comes down to a half court chuck, or a pair of free throws. Which caught my eye on the box score. How is it that the Knicks only went to the line FOUR times last night and the Grizz hit it 35 times?!? That's just total crap. I know I saw at least 5 clear fouls that weren't called against the Memphis and several fouls called against the Knicks that weren't fouls. The game still wold have been a laugher had the refs been watching the same game I did. Oh, and Zach is a whiny bitch.

But again, it's all about the Ws and the Knicks are getting them. I'm the DC-area and my dad just sent me a Melo T from Mo's. I'll break it in tonight and wear the colors to work tomorrow...if they pull out the win tonight. I gotta admit, I'm liking their chances, as long as their legs are fresh. That's my only real complaint about last night. It should have been a blow out and Amare and Melo should have gotten some rest for tonight's game. Whaddya gonna do?

I think it was a good strategy. TD was having problems getting the ball to Melo or Amare and since Melo already had the ball, just go with it. Memphis was caught guarding Melo with the shorter Tony Allen. I am sure if we called a timeout they would have had a taller defender on Melo.

what game were you watching ...believe the announcers after the game credited TD with an assist to Melo for the final play ...which got him to ten dimes.

He made mistakes sure...Chauncey/AC/d'A will get his mind right. But you have to credit alot of his stats to Stat and Melo drawing the doubles and creating space.

He was good in the first 3 quarters. He had troubles getting them the ball in the latter part of the 4th. That is how the Grizz got back into the game.

MDA is playing a lot of guys though... I was looking at Dal and their are some good matchups for us. Douglas does well against slower bigger guys like Kidd is these days. I think we see JJ and Shawn Williams on Dirk (perfect 2 guys to defend him).

I really like the defense the Knicks are playing and most of all they arent getting outrebounded.

I had major concerns about teams with inferior talent able to beat us on the boards but the Knicks are playing very hard there and on defense. JJ, Williams and Douglas have played awesome defense around the two big scoring guns... hell Douglas has been a big scoring gun.

Ive noticed he struggles with space at times but give him a little and he's money. He's really taking advantage of playing with the two big scorers and its been simply awesome

Some of this is correct he obviously did not play as well in the 4th. But you cannot lay it all on TD. There were several turnovers in the 4th by the Knicks. There was a real poor choice by Stat on a forced shot as well as a turnover by Melo on one pass. Some of it was just flat out good defense by the Grizz.

It was the first win by the Knicks in a close game. A very good win on another teams home floor. The fact the Knicks only got 4 foul shots all night is scary though. A win is a win...be happy

I'll try to post the next Gamethread early.

dude, I will only accept your GTs as official. Especially during the playoffs. Can we get an official ruling on this? I hate to armchair moderate but this is the way it should be

Thanks... the mojo is working, and the Knicks are winning. I wouldn't have it any other way. lol

Man, I'm going to ride this wave as long as it lasts.

I'll post GameThreads every game, all the way to a Championship if that's what it takes. Just doing my part.

Who said I wasn't happy? I just agreed that what MDA did was a good strategy since TD was having problems in the end.

Without a doubt, Silver! I just posted the GT for the Dallas game.

Another season, and more adversity to persevere through. We will get the job done, even BETTER than last year. GO KNICKS!
