If the rockets buy him out, McGrady want to sign with the Knicks. So who really has the leverage? All the Knicks have to do is make sure Tracy goes nowhere between now and Thursday at 3 pm. Maybe that's the reason for these flurries of rumors.

If McGrady ends up getting his contract bought out, one source close to him said, the Knicks are No. 1 on his list to sign with for the rest of the season.

but if the Rockets don't trade McGrady, it doesn't mean he's getting bought out. They've let him sit out all year, and I don't see why they wouldn't keep doing that. If I were Walsh I would at least try to squeeze a pick from them, and then do it

this trade becomes much more palatable if we get a 2012 1st rounder back from Houston or a first rounder this season or next.

if we whiff on lebron/wade gay and bosh wouldn't be a bad consolation

1st place: Lebron/Bosh
2nd place: Wade/Bosh
3rd place: Gay/Bosh assuming Memphis doesn't match
4th place: don't do the trade, let Jefferies/Curry expire next season. Sign Bosh or Lee
5th place: don't do the trade, let Jefferies/Curry expire next season. Sign Joe Johnson
6th place: Joe Johnson/Bosh

Let's try to elevate the level of discourse in this byeetch. Please

Apparently we can't get a first rounder this season, as the Rockets traded theirs last season, and you can't do that 2 seasons running.

$3 million savings is why the Rockets would buy him out.

Houston paper is reporting PHX and Chicago in the TMac chase. I can see nice four way forming here.

It's a regular trade deadline orgy! Bukkake anyone?

Let's have some trust in DW. He hasn't screwed anything up thus far. Hill wasn't the best pick, but since we missed on the guards we wanted (i.e., NOBODY knew Jennings would be hot, and he is cooling off now anyways) we picked the best available, a big who can block shots and shoot. That's solid drafting right there. Not playing him kind of sucks, but that was on MDA, and it may turn out to be smart as well (i.e., if we move JJ).

I am nervous about making mistakes, but at least we don't have a moron at the helm. We will not blow all of our future flexibility for a 50/50 shot at Lebron this summer. Walsh is WAY smarter than that.

Patience, young Jedi. Trust in the power of the force.

Tommy Dee is a JOKE.

Chicago could be going after T-Mac just to keep us from getting him. I dont expect teams to sit on their hands while we try pull the rug from underneath them.

Lets see:

Chicago can offer: Miller(C) and Tyrus(PF also a RFA). Houston still has flexibility this summer. Miller and Tyrus > Hill and Jefferies, based on salary alone.

Phoenix can offer: Amare Stoudemire and filler for McGrady. Amare > Jordan Hill and Jefferies

TMac aside - I refuse to believe that there's not one team wouldn't absorb 1 year of JJ's salary for a mid range lottery big like Hill. For example:

Ok City gives up Etan Thomas, Kyle Weaver (both expiring) and gets Hill, Jefferies, $3mm.

I agree....and I wish Donnie would just pull the trigger on one of these and just say screw you to Houston. (I still think we could have had Camby for Jeffries + Hill.)

Then focus on Nate. Then on Harrington for Tyrus Thomas.

If you are gonna give up Hill and Jefferies just got to Boston and try to get it all done in one swipe.

Hill, Nate, Jefferies, Curry for Ray Allen. I keep harping on this but we sell Boston a 'chip this year and we can get rid of Curry and Jefferies.

Exactly, which is why this deal likely wont happen. It was probably leaked to see if other teams were willing to take Jefferies if packaged with Hill.

The rule applies to future first round picks, so the fact that they traded last years does not come into play.

The Knicks and Rockets continue to discuss a deal for Tracy McGrady.

Larry Hughes will be in the package and not Al Harrington, league sources tell Yahoo! Sports.

The Knicks presumably would want to use Harrington in a separate deal, possibly for Tyrus Thomas.

Jared Jeffries and Jordan Hill would be the other components of the proposed trade.

Modest improvement. Wish Adrian clarified about the picks.

Larry Coon on the cap implications-

Knicks would need to free up another $1.7 mil or so for two maxes:

Eddy Curry buyout? Tis our only hope, me thinks.

also - I don't think Coon did the math right - when we offer contracts to Max guys, some of the "ghost cap holds" go away, because we are signing real live bodies. so that gives us close to $800,000 more in cap room. meaning we only need to buy out Curry for like $1.4M aka the league minimum he could get when he signs somewhere else. so long as curry believes he CAN sign somewhere else, i think the buyout might work nicely? hopefully...

That wouldn't help for cap purposes since his full salary would count against the cap. That would only save Dolan money.

no. if they buy eddy out for $10M his salary on the cap will be $10M, not the originally contracted $11M or whatever. it's in Coon's salary cap FAQ.
