forget giambi friday vs. boston, if doug is not at first on sunday night, we lose that game on 3 seperate occasions.

I rationalize it as every team had cheaters so when it comes to team goals, why hurt the team for the sins of one guy.

It's not just Red Sox fans. It's the Boston media and the Red Sox organization themselves who are dismissing the importance of winning the Division. While I don't necessarily disagree with that, it's incredibly pathetic since they made such a big deal about how far ahead they were of the Yankees and how they would never catch them.

I still don't care about the division. I just want to go into the playoffs playing good ball with everyone rested and healthy. But if they win it and stick it to Boston, I'll be just as happy as I was for the previous 12.


yea, I agree, the were poking their chest out when the lead was 14, they buried the yankees in the media, my friend is a sox fan and he was all teeth and gums earlier in the year, now he doesn't even want to talk baseball, he said, now it is all about the NFL.. yea that is a loser mentality.. hahahaha... Again boston can hang their hats on 2004, but honestly the yankees team wasn't as strong as it is now, mussina and leiber were our #1 and 2 starters, and we had tony clark getting major dh minutes, this team is younger and stronger, sox fans can make all the excuses they want...... they can hang their hats on 2004, we can hang ours on the past decade!

Seriously, the fact that they keep hanging their hat on 2004 is pathetic since everything that's happened since then has proved that it was nothing but a fluke. They lose in the first rd in 2005 and don't make the playoffs in 2006, after the Yankees come into Fenway and smack them around for 5 games.

Now they may or may not win the division but they choked away a huge portion of a 14 1/2 game and are playing terrible ball going into the playoffs, which portends to be a very short stay. Of the 4 teams, I would rank them 4th going into the playoffs, regardless of the final standings or home field.

It was a fluke, the playoffs is funny, teams get hot and cold, but boston being down 3-0 as a wild card team was playing the underdog role, they had nothing to lose, the pressure was on the yankees,the same thing with the pesky marlins in 03. The yanks have won 4 WS as being the hunted, the team with the pressure to win or all else is failure, that is why I press the point of those 4 WS wins, it is tough to win, when you are expected to. boston has been in the lead all year, the pressure of being the hunted is getting to them I suspect, they can downplay that all they want....

batting average is one of the worst stats to go by. Giambi's taking pitches and just starting to get into regular form. The past 70 ABs were basically his spring training.

Detroit lost again this afternoon. They're done.

Yankees are 6 up in the loss column with 11 games to play.

Another Yankee win and a Boston loss tonight would be pretty damn funny.

I think it's pretty safe to say we're making the postseason this year... so who would u guys put on your postseason roster?

It's a shame we don't have anyone who can really steal a base for you on the bench if we need it, but it is what it is. I have zero faith in Farnsworth in the playoffs. He's just got a huge dark cloud hanging over his head. I can easily envision him costing us a game in a short series. I'd rather not even take the chance & leave him off the roster altogether. Bruney's got better #'s than he does regardless, & we need at least 1 lefty in the pen, so Villone makes the cut over Henn, who I have zero confidence in also.

Giambi stretches out the lineup that makes it torture on any pitcher. He sees so many pitches and gets on base which has to be has to be their MO in the playoffs. They can't just sit around for a homerun, which Giambi can also give you. Against the Angels with their small ball and putting the pressure on the defense, you start Minky and have Giambi as your big bat off the bench.

Wang has to start game 1, regardless of if they start on the road. He's their #1 starter and you want to make sure he's available for possibly the 4th game, at home, or at worst a game 5.

Mussina has been good since he was put back in the rotation. Last night he was very good and hopefully that rest was what he needed. If he's right, he's a very good 4th starter. Plus he has the experience that Hughes and Kennedy just don't have. Just prepare Hughes like he's starting games that Moose is, so you can quickly pull Moose if you have to.

Farnsworth is making the playoff roster and he could be good as a 6th inning guy. He's been pitching better but obviously I have no faith in him. But they're going to need him. Hopefully he's good more often than not and doesn't completely kill them.

really there's no other reason to have Farns over Bruney except for the fact that Farns will get all pissy if Torre leaves him off... the guy's been nothing but inconsistent & unreliable all year long... Bruney's not exactly reliable but he's got better #'s than Farns at least.

this team has been the best team in baseball since late May... it's no surprise to me that they've made it all the way back... probably much more of a surprise that they played so poorly in April & early May... the kids have really energized this team since that bad stretch, & IMO Rocket's presence has meant a lot to this ballclub, as has ARod's MVP season obviously.

just got back from the game...sat in the bleachers again. fun times.

mariano made it interesting again...but another eruption when the redsox score flashed on the scoreboard.

what a fun close to the season.

He gave up a bloop double. After that, he pitched overly carefully. He also got some rough calls when on potential third strikes.
