You guys already know the moves he made this past offseason in acquiring Swisher, CC, AJB, Pettitte, Berroa & Ramiro Pena looks to be a nice young SS prospect for us to groom for the future.

As you can see, he's made his fair share of good moves & bad moves, & other moves that were a comparable wash, but for the most part the good moves outweigh the bad, & there's absolutely no denying the results achieved in terms of championships & division titles & overall games won during his tenure, which is unmatched by any other GM in baseball... the only young players he's traded away that have amounted to much in the majors that he didn't get good value in return for has been Mike Lowell & Ted Lilly... there have been other young players he's traded away like Juan Rivera, Nick Johnson, Dioner Navarro, Marcus Thames & Christian Guzman who have become quality players in the majors, but he got back good players in every 1 of those deals that helped this team... he's also signed a good amount of quality young talent for our minor leagues like Soriano, Wang & Cano, as well as drafted some very good young talent like Hughes, Kennedy, Joba & Austin Jackson while completely rebuilding the farm system from 1 of the worst in baseball to 1 of the best.

so yeah, take ur digs at Cashman, call him a bad GM or below average GM or whatever else u wanna call him, but there's really no arguing w/the facts here, & i still have yet to hear anyone tell me who would have done such a better job than he has over the time he's been here.
A list of pleasant trades doesn't make a an outstanding GM. (Just saw this list again.) There doesn't seem to be any philosophy underlying these moves other than "If we get big number producing hitters, we can outscore everyone." All I see here is a GM who put about 80% of his mental energy into big name hitters and until this last off-season, saved the remaining 20% for pitching. That's probably part of why we were in the desperate situation we were in for pitching this off-season and simply had to gamble on the guys we gambled on.

those are just about ALL of the moves he's made as a GM since he took over, most of which have panned out nicely for the Yankees' franchise! i didn't just pick & choose some examples to suit my point like you like to do... u telling me i don't understand what a GM does when u can't even point out more than a handful of high profile moves you disagreed with over the past few years that you heard about on Sportscenter is a joke... watch a few more decades of baseball before u try & pretend like you can drop some knowledge on this topic... ur just making urself look more foolish with every post you make... take my advice & cut your losses.

All I see here is a GM who put about 80% of his mental energy into big name hitters and until this last off-season, saved the remaining 20% for pitching.

I could address this but first please address my earlier point. What philosophy (if any!) and strategies underly Cashman's moves? Again, to me it looks like unending re-tooling with about 80% of the focus being on offense. The philosophy is, "Occasionally I'll get a pitcher but basically to me, a winning team is one with big name hitters who produce more runs than the opponents produce." A strategic approach I see is, "I don't care if a player is in or past his prime or if the contract I give him will extend well past his prime." I'll give you another chance to correct the record but to this point, you seem to think that the philosophy doesn't matter so long as you can produce a long list of trades and say that more than 50% of them looked good individually.

i just printed out a huge list for you to look over, read it... plenty of those moves contain trades where Cashman dealt away old past their prime veterans for young players & prospects... he's also drafted & signed a good amount of very good young talented players to replenish our farm system with... what the hell do i need to analyze them all again for when i already did that for you & they're staring you right in the face? the philosophy behind his moves is to make the move that will benefit the NY Yankees, period... every GM in baseball has the same philosophy... sometimes he gets it wrong just like any GM does, but most of the times he's gotten it right... go ahead & list me the history of moves any other GM has made in the history of baseball & i'll point out bad moves & good moves alike... no GM is perfect... u can only judge them based on their track record of success, & like i've already told u about 50 times in this thread, Cashman has the best track record of success than any other GM in baseball over his tenure.

you don't even watch most of the damn games & u wanna sit here & tell people who've been following this team religiously their entire lives that they don't know what they're talking about... dude, like i said, cut your losses.

No, that's a goal not a philosophy. A philosophy indicates the approach the GM takes to achieve his or her goals. Try again or cut your losses. I have none to cut other than the losses my GM keeps giving my team.

The Yankees are batting a guy with a .280 on-base % in the lead-off spot. That is just the epitome of stupidity.

So after three requests to describe the philosophy our GM has, the best you can do is first change the topic, second describe a goal rather than a philosophy, and then beg the moderators to help you ignore the request. Just cut your losses and admit Cashman either has had no consistent philosophy. You're losing the argument each time you try to pretend he does but cannot state it.

AJ has some REALLY bad innings. He looks great 90% of the time but in the other 10% he gets hit as bad as any MLB pitcher does. I don't know if it's that he can't pitch out of the stretch or if it's more a lack of confidence/comfort or maybe all of the above.

Wang threw six scoreless innings in triple A. We desperately need him up here pitching like the ace/#2 pitcher he once was.

I definitely still expect CC to finish with at least 17 wins. He's too good to struggle for long. I don't know what's going on with AJ Burnett though. I hope Hughes doesn't kill the momentum we've started.

CC was terrible in April last year and then became virtually unhittable over the summer. No reason to be impatient with so many games to play. I'm more worried about Burnett who has been known to be erratic throughout his career.

Yanks are getting a nice boost from Cervelli- if he plays this well he may be able to supplant Molina. He wasn't supposed to be major league ready with the bat yet, but if you take a look at his minor league numbers he has always exercised very good plate patience for a young player. He has a decent idea of what to do at the plate and he certainly has all the tools defensively.

Cervelli & Pena have added a nice boost to this team, & Melky's been balling all year.

it's good to see our kids being called up & doing the job... Hughes better jump on that bandwagon cuz Wang is about to come back from the DL... last start he looked like a trainwreck.

I definitely still expect the Yankees to improve and finish well above .500. Right now, they have more who have either undearachieved or missed a lot of time than players who have overachieved, and I expect most of them to return closer to their career numbers.

Overachieved
1-Swisher
2-Damon
3-Cabrera

Posada belonged on this list until his recent injury.

Underachieved/missed a lot of time
1-Tex
2-Jeter (maybe; there seems to be a steady decline in his OPS)
3-A-Rod
4-Sabbathia (maybe; his ERA is right around his career average but worse than his last few seasons)
5-Wang
6-Burnett

At the end of the season, I think we'll be at least be competing for 1st place and/or the wild card. I'd be very surprised if we pulled way ahead of the pack though.

these mo-fo's don't quit.

we score runs late and we also do it at yankee stadium. i'm loving our comeback ability.

i am looking at hughes' outing in a positive manner. he kept us in there despite the worst umpire in MLB history.

melky + gardner with the gold stars tonight.

i also noticed veras motion was much tighter and he threw 3 really good pitches.

and edwar with a big time relief appearance for us too.
