A coupld of quotes that stood out in the article as it pertains to us....

“His ability to adjust on the fly and empower our players to make decisions has been invaluable” [2]. Bryant’s influence was evident in the development of Cleveland’s young guards, who thrived in his adaptable, player-empowered system.

Bryant’s coaching philosophy centers on empowering players by tailoring strategies to their strengths rather than enforcing a rigid system [12]. “Every player is unique, and it’s our job as coaches to understand what makes them tick,”

I'm still sad about losing in the ECF and now sad about Thibs.

I hope Thibs finds himself a hot young sugar baby or falls in love and marries a nice woman his age. He's a good man and did so much good for us. Wish him the absolute best. I'm gonna miss him. There was a certain level of trust and comfort with him knowing at the very least we'd be in the playoffs.

I agree with this, and also think JB cares more about winning than anything else basketball related

Interesting. I am sure Ime would like nothing better than to beat Celts. Guy has legit fire in his belly -- as does Mazzula for that matter

Wholesome post.

I can't imagine player coach in NBA anymore. Maybe pickleball

But frankly I can imagine him being intrigued as a coach

We all should keep in mind that the Knicks are potentially the job of a lifetime now that we have talent. Usually coach jobs are for doormats or teams in decline

I would like to think that our next year with Mikal and KAT will be better than the first. You win in NY and you are legend

And I kinda look at it differently regarding the intel. Knicks seem to give early info to Ian, who communicates it very very carefully.

Leon is a closed loop and the beat guys have to respect him in that, the others really don't, for better or worse.

DLeethal wrote:This account said they had intel Thibs was gonna be fired and he got fired the next day. Apparently knows someone in the Dolan family. I thought he was talking nonsense but he nailed it.

The socials and podcasters are very close to getting more intel across the board than the beat writers who haven’t broke anything substantial in years.

Yes Ian usually has the info and speaks in tongues. For example when we had the last roster spot to fill for a veteran, and everyone was thinking TJ Warren, he kept saying in his reports to not count out a locker room presence like PJ Tucker, because they may benefit from someone who is a good communicator. Then right after the season he said that the decision on the Coach was not made yet, and that while he thought that Thibs would be back, the decision was not made yet, and that no one should assume.

I heard him on his own show the putback and he seemed to say Johnny was a candidate and sort of rejected everyone else mentioned, so I came away thinking Johnny was the guy. But now he is saying something a bit different here.

Honestly I don't know how you fire an established, successful top coach like this without 1 or 2 people firmly in mind as a potential upgrade. They may run a thorough process, but I believe they have someone in mind and the focus is on modern/innovative offensive principles.

Same

Do we truly expect a connected guy like Leon to fire Thibs without having a guy or two on his mind?

But do we also expect the franchise to openly say they want a guy after firing a respected and successful coach especially such a short while in between?

I think they know the route they are looking for and might have a guy or two in mind. If they aren’t one of the finalists of the Suns coach search, nothing to worry about. If they are and one is very interested in a possible interview from NY, something will come up before the end of the week, where Phoenix is expected to make a decision according to previous reports.

When his team has been healthy he has gotten great results and several younger players have developed quite well under his watch. His team plays fast and creates turnovers. He knows how to use a scoring PG and a shooting big. He also has maximized defensive wings and bigs as well.

I think Jenkins got a raw deal- they tried to impose a new offensive system on him and flipping coaches didnt work for then. They went from 2nd in the West to not winning a playoff game.

He's interesting. I'm not as big a Ja fan as most probably are and when I watched Memphis I loved the intensity and pace they played at plus great use of bench.

Something happened (I think he was trying to become less reliant on Ja with ball) and I think Ja rebelled and he lost that locker room.

All I know is whenever I watched Memphis the team had a fire up it's rear end, shared the ball and played a deep bench of no names.

Talk about over the top article - Johnny Wooden

I joke a bit there but here's a concern.

Johnny moves to Cavs as asst. head coach under Kenny A. -- Cavs have great year but get run off the court by Pacers.

If Johnny was in fact a key contributor in Cleveland --- doesn't he deserve some credit for the flop vs Indy and why are we so keen to hire a guy who was Asst. Head Coach past 2 seasons and lost to Indy 2 straight years.

I don't know - I'll be on board if we hire him and his resume is far greater than I realized..so if we go there hoping he's the right guy.

Udoka's now been mentioned by more than a few guys - J Williams included.

He's kind of like young Thibs and I'd be happy with him BUT wasn't thrilled the way Houston fell apart vs GS this post season. Their offensive system didn't look like much of a system either.

Udoka is intense though and he'd fit NY -- probably improve our D considerably.

Think Williams said he's not sure Ima is all that thrilled in Houston.

Remember he may have had to grab that job to get back in game after the affair stuff in Boston (which I don't care about personally).

How do yall see how amazing the offense was before that and still want to keep him as a coach is beyond me. If people forgot please go back and watch those games.

This! but the Thibs apologist don’t want to talk about that.

Seriously, the amount of credit this man is receiving is astonishing. The man has been running the same offense since day 1!. It was all ISO RANDLE before it became ISO BRUNSON…and I seem to recall Knick fans HATING an iso heavy offense when Melo was doing it.
The organization and Thibs ran Randle to the ground and when it was evident that he couldn’t get us any further, they traded him. Same thing is happening to Thibs now. Appreciate the man for getting the team to “play hard” but now the Knicks need a real coach and game manager.

Btw…best Knicks coach since JVG was Mike Woodson. Thibs is not on his level.

well nice to see your back balancing the Thibs apologies with Thibs hate. Literally making stuff up. All good. I am sure Leon's hire will be great and at the very least pick someone able to get us to the finals. Semis, Semis, ECF... last 3 years under Thibs. Anything short of that is utter and complete failure.

You happy with the Cav's season? I know you are a big Atkinson lover. I can see that happening here... Someone gets us to 60+ wins and we lose in the first round and say it's not the coach's fault cause cause KAT turned an ankle. God I hope Im wrong. It's been a fun 5 years of watching them play hard every night and become a better team every year.

This means 1 of 2 things....

- Johnny Bryant to Knicks
or
- Johnny Bryant as Asst. HC of Cavs got beat out of a job by a Cav asst. coach.

Suns were maybe annoyed if JB wanted to wait out the Knicks process first. I could see why they would say go F yourself.
