I dog Thibs for this offense and I’ll give him all the credit in the world for this defense. It’s almost like he kept his aces hidden all year as to not reveal his cards.

I’ve got the same impression, which is brave considering he knew the talent was good enough to win in the season with a mediocre strategy. But it feels more like the Knicks are finally, FINALLY gelling at the right time.

That offense, though…

How much of it is Thibs and how much of it is just having Robinson vs. Achiuwa/ Sims/ Hukporti?

Final play of the game, Mitch and OG adjusted off the Horford screen. Instead of pressing the ball they glued behind Horford letting Tatum choose his defender instead of making MitchBeast pick up a full speed Tatum in transition. Tatum chooses Robinson who plays off him with his height and pushes him to the opposite side of the court into OG. OG picks him up and guards him well, but Tatum misses Bridges behind him who, has both the athleticism and length to block Tatum from above him. Game over.

In game switch from one play to the next to guard a play that Tatum abused them on 6 seconds earlier. I’ll credit Thibs for the adjustment. Pinning to Horford was a coached play.

Yeah that was masterful switching defense at the right times on the right players. Perfection quite frankly.

For me, it was pinning the screen that was the defensive adjustment to be lauded. The boys executed and deserve 90 percent of the credit, but pinning OG and Robinson to Horford instead of picking Tatum up above the screen was masterful.

Yeah Switching may be too specific to something else. The boys did good whatever it was

The telling stat that you posted or someone posted is the limitation on the corner 3s. NBA players have practiced/perfected the **** out of corner 3's. Forcing more above the break 3's off pull ups or deep step backs definitely is a lower percentage 3.

I don't understand the "Wide Open" stat that was widely quoted after game 1. My understanding is that those are considered 3's with 4 feet of space. It doesn't totally pass the eyeball test for me. Probably is not good at accounting for late contests that can still disrupt a shot, but the shooter probably starts with more space.

Still can't believe this. Never did I imagine the Knicks would take both games in Boston, and even more shocking, never did I imagine I would be seeking out content from Paul Pierce and Stephen A.

Crazy times!

Mikal is struggling on the O end of things but doing work on defense.

For the 2 games: https://www.basketball-reference.com/playoffs/2025-nba-eastern-conference-semifinals-knicks-vs-celtics.html

Mikal: 29% FG% and 31% from downtown.
Brown: 35% FG% and 18% from downtown
Tatum: 29% FG% and 25% from downtown

me either but that's mostly because we are just used to him not playing or when he does he's hobbled somehow. That being said nothing you have seen from him has been shocking... it's all Mitch doing Mitch things.

I said when the series started there were 2 things that gave me hope. Mikal and KAT showed another gear vs. Detroit and we need something from McBride and Mitch and boy have we gotten both
