Briggs will remind us the sky is falling, and Nalod will tell you the sky is not really there.

Then Little bonnie chimes in some some suck up agreeable say nothing comment in his continued quest for peer approval. It must have been hell for him in the locker room after gym class!
Nalod - very insightful and enjoyable.
Oh, oh - I hope I am not being too agreeable!

I think the "Vote Now" poll shows that most of UK posters are intelligent thinkers; not fooled very easily. or some may say we are "Liberals" like that's bad, right?? Here are the results:

84.4% Obama/Biden
8.9% McCain/Palin
6.7% Undecided

http://www.nypost.com/seven/09162008/news/politics/mac_makes_move_on_dem_empire_129286.htm

This poll shows that almost half of New yorkers are unintelligent and easily fooled. Ah man I wish i could be a smart liberal like the rest of you guys.
You can be!

Edit: I shouldn't be so flippant. I do apologize. If you would like to seriously debate McCain/Palin vs Obama/Biden, and throw in the present Republican administratin's record, then there is a thread for that and I and others would be happy to discuss/debate it. However, the "Vote Now" thread starts out saying that most people who are debating the candidates have already made up their minds and don't really listen to the other side. So therefore the poll was posted to see where people stand. Only 3 people out of 52 voters, voted "undecided".

FYI - I am Independent, not Democratic and my political leanings are more toward NY Republican which, to simplify and perhaps over-generalize, are socially liberal and fiscally conservative. But also, very much against the Iraq War and the Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld/Rove Republican administration.

My guess is that the Ultimate Knicks poll is representative of the UltimateKnicks community and not those of the rest of America. I think there are a tremendous amount of undecides for various reasons. You can rattle off many. Some say race is a factor, some say fear of change is an issue. My guess is it has something to do with the Republican Administration being a joke and the Democratic run Congress being one as well. In general people aren't happy with either party and don't know where to turn.

I like Obama and think he can do good things for the country. But I think a lot of people are concerned that neither party is really out for their well being and are skeptical about what this means for the future. Hopefully, Obama will be able to get his message across in the debates. This year because of the overall skepticism the debates will be huge. People don't have time to study the issues every day. Hopefully both candidates can put aside their mudslinging and really get down to informing people on where they stand on the issues
I just hope that people will like me

The economic fallout has caused a +5 reversal. We needed a gaffe and some momentum and I think we got a fairly good Palin gaffe and a huge material event that reflects directly on Republicanm failed leadership. Now we are on their 40 +2 late in the third.

Just wanted to weigh in with my view on the Presidential elections.

Im English, so im not as worked up about these elections as you guys are in the US. My politics are basically Democrat, and I personally think the Obama would be a great President.

Much as it may hurt to admit it, a large part of statesmanship is presentation. Take a look at the most successful politicians of the past few decades, and you will see that the ones who got things done are not the mumbling bumbling brainiacs. It was the eloquent guys with the determination and knowhow to get the right point accross. Of course it only works if you assemble the right people around you. Having the right team can make all the difference. It may sound shallow and not policy-centric, but its the way things get done in the real word. Take the UK. Noone can argue that Gordon Brown isnt smarter and better equiped then Tony Blair. He is. But he cant get it done because by the time he gets to his point, most people are either asleep or have totally switched off.

Thats why I was so impressed with Obamas choice of Biden for VP. He could have gone with another preacher to strenghten his grip on the emotions of the country, but he didnt. He went for a "real-deal" kind of politician. And having that kind of person around the White House, regardless of actual VP responsibility, will make a lot of people feel better.

McCain on the other hand has goofed but big time. His whole claim to fame was his experience, his toughness and his leadership qualities. He could have given Obama a real test in the election, challenging him on the issues and showing the American people all of his many credentials for the POTUS job. And then what did he do? He chose Reece Witherspoon from Legally Blonde as his running mate.

I dont know if you guys in the US yet realize how this is seen outside yet. To the rest of the world, this is just another example of "dumb America". Why not just have another Clebrity Big Brother and the winner gets to be VP? She started on the up because of her speech at the GOP convention. I would point out that there is a 99% certainty that she didnt write that speech. Some $200 an hour lawyer wrote it, McCain found the gal to say it and there we have it, a pig in lipstick.

Out of all the "second-level" politicians in American (governers, senators, multi-term congressmen) Sarah Palin is probably the least qualified person to be VP. She blew up this big balloon at the convention and we all said "Wow!!! Would you look at that!!!!!" But you pop the thin outer layer of that balloon and what do you have? Nothing but a lot of hot air.

From the moment Obama won the candidacy, I thought he would win. McCain did a great job getting back in the race (although it seems to me there could have been a lot less mud-slinging, but needs must) and he certainly has the credentials for the job. For a moment I thought it would be pretty close, but McCain has screwed up big-time with the Palin VP ticket. As far as I can see, the girl has seen nothing, done nothing, met noone and been nowhere. So why did McCain pick her? I can only assume it was because shes a woman. You cant diss that because then your a sexist. You cant diss HER at all because then your a sexist by proxy as well. Very smart, if she was a woman of substance, even to only a small degree, but she isnt.

Im not a huge fan of Hillary (she gives me dry retches) but Sarah Palin has nothing on her. Except of course of the woule glasses milf exec thing these got going on any you cant diss that. But this isnt the Miss Milf America contest. It the Preseidential election, and McCain lost the minute he put Palin on thhat ticket.

The economic fallout will affect both cadidates equally. Its really all about which one react better to it.

The guy who stands up and demands better banking regulations and more fiscal transparency will probably hit all the approval ratings.

Actually, if you think about it, this could be pretty useful for both parties. Plus you could raise taxes to fund better regulation and at this point, whos going to argue?

Today's gallop poll is important. I would think we would want to see some weakness for the first time in awhile by McCain via that interview with Palin. I don't think it came off to well and perhaps some reality will kick in.

gotta give the Palin interview a few days to settle in. I think today is too short.

and it's starting...

Gallup Daily: Obama 47%, McCain 45%Obama gains an edgeUSA Election 2008 Gallup Daily Americas Northern America PRINCETON, NJ -- The Sept. 14-16 Gallup Poll Daily tracking update shows Barack Obama regaining a slight, although not statistically significant, edge over John McCain, 47% to 45%, among registered voters, marking the first time since the week of the Republican National Convention that McCain has not held at least a one percentage point margin over Obama.

From a broad perspective, the race remains a statistical tie. But there has been a general drift towards Obama since McCain moved to a five-point lead over Obama through the weekend after the GOP convention.

Today's report includes two days of interviewing conducted after reports of the collapse of Wall Street financial institutions and changes in the stock market began to dominate the news on Monday. Gallup Poll Daily tracking data show that in each of these individual days (Monday and Tuesday) consumer ratings of the U.S. economy have become more negative. Similarly, in each of these individual days' interviewing, Obama has led McCain in election tracking. There is thus a correlation between the bad financial news and Obama's gains, although the data do not allow us to conclude definitively that there is a causal connection between the two. Throughout the campaign, Obama has generally held an edge over McCain when voters are asked who could best handle the U.S. economy, although McCain gained on the economic dimension in polling conducted immediately after the GOP convention. (To view the complete trend since March 7, 2008, click here.)

It is also worth noting that Gallup tracking shows the percentage of Americans who report being happy without a lot of stress has now fallen to the lowest level measured this year. -- Frank Newport

(Click here to see how the race currently breaks down by demographic subgroup.)

Survey Methods

For the Gallup Poll Daily tracking survey, Gallup is interviewing no fewer than 1,000 U.S. adults nationwide each day during 2008.

The general-election results are based on combined data from Sept. 14-16, 2008. For results based on this sample of 2,787 registered voters, the maximum margin of sampling error is ±2 percentage points.

Interviews are conducted with respondents on land-line telephones (for respondents with a land-line telephone) and cellular phones (for respondents who are cell-phone only).

In addition to sampling error, question wording and practical difficulties in conducting surveys can introduce error or bias into the findings of public opinion polls.

To provide feedback or suggestions about how to improve Gallup.com, please e-mail feedback@gallup.com.

The people who have ran these things into the ground HAVE to be held accountable. I'm sorry but this fallout akins to the behaviour of a felon. This amounts to the worst what I would call massive larceny of all time. The princibles STOLE billions of dollars from taxpayers and for that they must pay. All assets should be seized and serious jail terms should be appropriated. They kept in quiet--from the F White House to the upper management of everyone on Wall Street and the kingpinns of this whole F mess Fannie and Freddie hand me a loan without regulation Mac. The short sellers who have aggravated the situation in the last 2 months should be expunged from working in the US securty markets and forced to give back profits. IMHO--while we wont collect the approximately 814BILLION we have now spent holding up the various collapses----the people responsible should be forced into personal liquidation down to the underwear and off to jail.

The people who ran these things into the ground are the US Congress. Republicans and Democrats alike are to blame here. Hold them accountable first. Then we can see what's actually Wall Street's fault.

My thread was locked, but I would like to see what you you guys think about this. Mccain actually proposed legislation to oversee the very institutions that are now failing. Thoughts?

By the way, if you click on the above thread it is a direct qoute from the Mac himself.

Question: What did Barry Obama do in his year as a Senator to prevent this?

Some of you fail to see our country has been hijacked.

We have detention center camps being built all over our country, just waiting for prisoners from a martial law roundup.

And how many americans have been rounded up so far as a result of being a 'suspected terrorist'?

In the United States TODAY you only need to be SUSPECTED of some how being linked to 'terrorism' to be held indefinitely, with out charges, courts or access to a lawyer.

If you speak out publicly againt the Bush Administration, you are a 'terrorist' If you do a bunch what used to be innocent things in this country, you can be held has a 'terrorist'

If you disrupt the function of a govt office in ANY way... your a 'terrorist'.Just a matter of time before regular American citizens are ripped out of their homes, off the streets and detained indefinately.

Did you all forget how such a huge percent of the World Trade Center cleanup crews have and are dying from inhalation of toxins-Ignored by our government's health care (OSHA was "shooed away" by Rudy when cleanup began).

How a private mercenary army (Blackwater), "journalists" and some hollywood celebrities beat the U.S. govt. to post-Katrina New Orleans?

But if I go along with everything the governement says, they'll leave me alone" which its coming to real FAST.

I don't care if you're in denial, think you have "inside information" or really believe most of the govt lies because you've become accustomed to it, which is one of the ideas behind repetitive propaganda, keep on repeating things until they believe it.

Google torture and detainment of U.S. citizens as law
No, these laws have not been implemented in wide-scale hollywood-style roundups of innocent citizens yet,
but someone tell me why the are these laws on the books to begin with if not to serve some kind of purpose for the govt in the near future?

I know lets all vote for the Mummy and the Mommy to lead America into a better age.

It doesn't matter what goes on this fall, the pages have been turned and who ever is president in 2009 will likely become a puppet that the elitist will mold and shape.

America: Freedom to Fascism is a compelling and troubling account of how the wealth of our nation was silently passed from its citizens to a handful of powerful bankers in 1913. That's the year the Federal Reserve Act and the 16th Amendment were introduced, giving a privately held corporation the means to control our finances while ensuring its interest payments through the strong arms of the newly-formed Internal Revenue Service. Ever since then, Arron Russo suggests, Americans have been gradually conditioned to accept fewer freedoms and a lower standard of living... all the while considering debt and servitude as distinctly American values.

There is no question that this administration has made a number or tremendous mistakes. But, lets not blame the economy entirely on them, considering in was on the way down when clinton went out of office. The war was mishandled, the economy is faltering. Everyone was at fault here Republicans and Democrats, they should have seen this coming, the SEC should have stepped in, but they didn't.

However, the media has been far more cut throat towards McCain and Palin then they have been with Obama, everyone complains about Fox News, but fails to bring up the New York Times, fails to bring up the one sided nature of pop culture like US Weekly, Rolling Stone, TV Shows, etc. All I hear from Obama is how his judgment should be trusted because he didn't vote for the war, which John McCain, John Kerry, Hiliary Clinton, and JOE BINDEN all voted for.

Obama wants to repeal the tax cutes and enforce capital gains which will be detrimental to investing and small business owners, 250k is a lot of money, but not when you factor in living in a metropolitan city and having to support a family, pay for college, etc. He complains about equal pay calling for women to make the same amount of money as men, but the women on his staff are making 8k less than the men. And anyone who bitches about the media and reverend wright please look at the inverse of the situation if mccains spiritual advisor was a racist with clan ties. You can't say the priest who married you, baptized your children, a man who you sat through 20 years of sermons isn't a big influence on your life and you can't discount his views.

You want to talk about experience I agree Palin doesn't have much, the Gibson interview was not a shinning moment clearly, but neither does Obama, he rose to his position like most politicians through a close affaliation within his party that allowed Obama to ride his coat tails, and be on bills with him in order to rise within his party. A lot has to change and our either of these tickets really committed to it? No one can really be sure, but talking about change and actually having a record of change is a big difference.

Why did McCain change his platform from the primary. In those primaries McCain indicated that the country was on the right path but now he steals Obama's platform when it becomes apparent that people want change versus status quo. McCain lost all credibility when three agos indicated that the economy is fundamentally sound but as the market began to tumble. He changed his stance. Wow. That shows a man who doesn't have a clue about what's going on in this country. I think he is too focus on beating Saddam, oh wait he's dead. Why are we still in Iraq again?
