![]() We've seen 2 games out of OG. Very tidy player. Plays tough defense - I reckon what we say so far is he moves without the ball the way he's supposed to and takes high percentage shots - and that he gets himself in position for dunks and easy layups by moving. He hasn't done it the hard way - so far he's not beating his man off the dribble or doing 1-on-1 post up.
The question is whether he needs to develop more offensively to get the big $30m+ contract, or does his defense already get him there. Interesting article around his value, written last spring from a Raptor POV. Going back to the trade: RJ was a neutral salary dump at best. RJ's sort of falling into that dime a dozen mid-level swingman rut. He has played a lot of games and has had a pretty big opportunity here - he's been given a green light every time he has stepped on the floor as a Knicks, sometimes being the top scoring option to often being the 3rd option (along with Brunson & Randle). He's kind of along the lines of Evan Fournier, Alec Burks, Tim Hardaway Jr, Quentin Grimes, or even Cam Reddish. You give them 30-35mpg and a green light, and they'll put up double digit points... but more than anything they're just minute eaters - they don't move the needle most nights. For every great night, you also expect a matching subpar game. “That was two, two from the heart.” - John Starks

A wing who can create but with mid to bad efficiency. Those players are useful, but you're not winning a title if you're depending on them for consistency in the starting lineup. Always... always remember: Less is less. More is more. More is better and twice as much is good too. Not enough is bad, and too much is never enough except when it's just about right.

![]() Last playoffs showed us the absolute need for a defender other than Mitchell Robinson. Grimes was that guy but somehow his offense is just not developing fast enough. Yes, RJ might someday become more consistent on O. But he will never be a defender that we could put on anyone, really. Even if RJ all of a sudden became 40%from three land it's still would not be enough. So good luck to him. We traded IQ , who would not be in our price range for OG. That's really it. Traded one of the best 6 man for one of the best starters that brings exactly what this team lacked. This starting 5 is contender -like. If we can get a shot creator/maker for the bench we would be an ECF team.

Knicks already have some available options; Brogdon, Clarkson, maybe even Alec Burks available so now it's all about fit. Let's also not forget that after Sims's run for a few games, it's pretty clear that he isn't an impact player. Precious was also a big part of the deal and he can fill the back up 5 role more effectively than Taj or Sims. |

Of course performance will dictate who is better in the long run, but I'm good with the exchange. RJ is the the better player of the two secondaries, but like Precious it's something of a dice roll to see if change of scenery allows for more growth. Certainly Precious would address a need. But I will say it again - we did not get "fleeced." |
