Was a fun game to watch. AM super happy to be seeing a number of players attack the rim -- for all of the analytics-types it's still by far the most efficient play (disclaimer: as long as Mudiay is not involved).

Let's see how Vonleh plays out -- certainly more athleticism than KOQ provided; and Mario who seems very comfortable handling the ball (and sometimes players just need to consistently touch the ball to get it going)

man i agree. fiz approached this game exactly as i would have wanted re: player minutes, pace and free flow.

The Hornacek era. That's funny.
Will there be no "THJr haters can suck it" thread?
I don't remember seeing a stat line with that many different knicks having blocks and steals since the 1990's. Nice.

Fiz has to work on that game face. Can't be looking like someone just crapped on your shoes because your team's not hitting....

He can handle it, but he plays like a run-a-way train!!! Too out of control at times. Looks like he's pressing and trying too hard to impress the coach.

Got the impression that he was trying to do it all in transition. Didnt see much of a halfcourt game. Agree he wasnt patient.

we learned something from Fiz and I liked what we learned. He's true to his word about defense for one and playing the kids as well
guards:
Frank 33
THjr 28
Baker 27
Zo 26
Burke 20

Say what you want about Baker and Frank's offense, and neither was good last night but they played the most minutes and they were relentless on defense and it was affecting the Hawks.

Mixed review on MArio but he impressed me. He was constantly in the passing lanes, he was good on defense and showed a lot on offense. WTF was with his outfit?

Kanter's lighter and it helped on defense. He still gets beat alot but he's so good on the boards and when we have guys attacking the rim he's a demon on the offensive glass. Kanter looking really good early.

With Baker/Enes/Mario we have like the most spastic white guys in the league

What really looke great was the guys were all doing what they do best while winning (if only we could play the Hawks every night).
Frank/Baker/Lance were great on d
Zo/Burke/Kanter/THjr are our scorers and got buckets
Mario/Vonleh showed they can play roles and really help
Knox got minutes without phucking anything up too much. Thats a win.

Im not a Baker fan. He plays incredibly hard. So much so he's done some really stupid things like getting hurt trying to block Anthony Davis. Last night he played almost 30 minutes. A few things stand out. He's not a PG. His handle is substandard by NBA PG standards, and by a lot. His shooting remains suspect, but damn... the coach stuck with him and a few things happened. He energizes his teammates. He get under the skin of other teams. If you have ever played any sport with contact guys like Ron Baker are insufferable (unless they are on your squad, then you resent them but acknowledge their usefullness)
It worked. Baker played a ton of minutes and he was a big contributor.

It really also shows Baker's value on the club. Does anyone realize how important it is for a coach like Fizdal to say to his guys he expects them to play as hard as Ron Baker?

Will be nice to see if/how they sustain the effort vs. NJ

I’m a huge baker fan, and same goes for frank, Every championship team needs guys like frank and baker. Their positive play rarely shows up in the box score, but frank and baker were huge factors in the win vs the hawks. They are going to be high minute players for this team and they deserve every minute, they make the team so much better with defense and high basketball IQ... Frank&Bake should make all NBA defense teams this year.

I am not a Baker fan either. I thought he had a bad 1st half last night. Defense was over rated, so many times his man beat him one on one. He also has this fake hustle. Fouls his man trying to go over a screen 40' from the basket, just not smart. His shot still sucks and he is NOT a pg, can't distribute the ball. The Mark Sanchez play was sad. Agreed his 2nd half was better. If you watch Baker during timeouts he cares more about his hair than whats going on, always fixing his fuking hair.

fishmike 9/27/2024 11:00 PM Ug I hate this. The idea of Towns is great until you see what a pussy he is. Jules is a dog. DD was a flamethrower locked up cheap for 3 more years. First Leon move I hate

I actually like Baker. A little disappointed that his shooting hasn't come around since it looked like he could shoot off-ball in college. And I think his handle is fine though he'll never razzle dazzle a guy out of his shoes.

I think where Baker contributes most is in establishing the tone that to win you need to play hard for the full 48 minutes. The great Larry Bird teams had that mantra. In fact i think it was the only response Robert Parrish ever told reporters after a loss.

As a team (with Melo being a lead culprit) we have failed at that. Take plays off. DOn't play D. DOn't set professional screens. DOn't box out. DOn't follow shots (that you know you missed) etc.

If we change that characteristic alone around I'll be a much happier fan; that and attacking the rim to shoot close or draw fouls.

Ron Baker. I don't know why he's been such a poor shooter in the NBA. Open shots are open shots... though the 3pt line is farther back...
